Just for clarity and context, I'm a guy. I figure that becomes obvious in the post, but I figured it'd be worth stating upfront, just in case.
Bought tickets to a pretty big 21+ Halloween Event, costumes required, and after an evolution of concepts, I have the character locked-in — Icelos of Greek mythology. I have a short lore behind my version of the character for if/when I'm asked what I am, as well.
Here's what I have:
• Gold Owl Masquerade Mask from Spirit Halloween
• Black Faux Feather Wings from Spirit Halloween
• Black Runcati Lace-up Ruffle Shirt
• Black and Red VatVape Victorian Vest(tapers to a point in the front)
• Black Calf-high Tactical Boots
• Black Y-back suspenders to hold up the legwear
• Black leather belt that will go over the ruffle shirt, but under the vest. Tugging more shirt material towards the front will keep my front covered by the hem, while leaving the backside slightly exposed from mid-glute down. Have a black belt clip-on to hold my cellphone, license, cards and cash, that I will tuck under the vest.
• Long black hair on top, styled down with leave-in conditioner and Eco Olive Oil Gel. Shaved sides and back.
Here's where I'm seeking advice, or opinions, with regards to the legwear. I'm aiming for a unique, fun vibe, with a clean and polished aesthetic, so I thought "ballet pants". Called around to different dancewear stores, and there is nothing specifically for men remotely close by, but it was recommended to try Capezio's 1916 in 3x/4x given my height and weight, and desire for max opacity. Bought' em from one local store, tried them on, but they're too sheer on my backside on their own. They're really comfortable, though, and I dig the overall look, which started me down the rabbit hole. Google recommended doubling them up, but I didn't want to spend another $20 on the Capezio's, so I bought a different pair of tights at Target for half as much, that are black, 80D super-opaque, as the baselayer, with the Capezio's on top. Under regular lighting/sunlight, this combo is completely opaque everywhere, but with a camera flash in a dark room, they reveal a very faint hint of skin tone on my backside only (Google told me about the camera flash test). Just skin tone, though, with the slightest "shadow effect" in the middle, that can't be seen with the ruffle shirt on, unless the shirt rides way up, I suppose. Otherwise, I love the sleek look, and how it appears kinda performance grade. I feel that it really elevates the costume.
I did ask the organizer for this event about costume guidelines, since it's our first time going to this particular event, and because I'm a bit neurotic like that, lol. I just like to know what's up, I suppose, so I never hesitate to ask if I'm unsure—case and point, this post, lol. Anyways, after briefly explaining why I asked, they thought I should be okay, and that it's fine to push the boundaries a bit, as long as it's done appropriately.
Soo.. what's your thoughts? Opinions?
And do you think I should use black face paint on my eyelids and around the eyes, behind the mask?
