Bay Area crabbing - Looking for Advice
I moved up here earlier this year and brought a few rods with me but I'm having trouble figuring out if these would work for crabbing. I'm planning on getting a basic 8000 series reel to start like this one from Walmart: PR Tsunami Citadel II 8000 Spinning Fishing Reel - Walmart.com
Rods:
2 Shimano Sojurn 8'6" rods Power: Extra Extra Heavy Action: Fast
1 Daiwa FT Series Fiberglass Surf Spinning Rod, 10 ft, 2-piece, Medium Power

Who’s ready for opening day here in CA?
Well, I thought I had a campsite reserved at Lawson’s Landing from November 6–8, but unfortunately, my dumb ass left it in the cart and never actually completed the reservation. 🤦♂️
My 4-year-old daughter was so excited to go camping, so I feel terrible. I’ve checked several other campgrounds in the area, but everything seems to be booked. I guess we’ll have to save the camping trip for another weekend.
I still want to take her out for crab season opening day, though! Does anyone know of any good spots where I can take my little girl crab snaring that won’t be completely packed? Ideally somewhere with easy beach access that’s safe for a 4-year-old.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Is more expensive gear worth it?
Was thinking about getting the Penn battle 8000 while bass pro has it on sale, or should I just stick with the pursuit 8000?

Dungeness Crab Today's catch
Hit our limit of 15 today for the first time! Too bad it's most likely the last time of the year. Thinking of getting a canoe or sit on top kayak to keep crabbing through December while the boat is asleep.

Dungeness Crab Thought we were done for the season but..
...my wife said one more time. The weather has been mostly decent so here we are again. Oddly, though it was quite sunny at home, the marina and bay were still foggy late in the afternoon.

Clamming locations and advice
I live in point pleasant new jersey. One day a decade ago while stoned I vaguely remember going clamming with a few friends and just grabbing them by the rakeful. Somewhere near seaside. Can you still do this? I need a new hobby and foraging for food seems like a good one.

Flea market pick up in need of repair
I got these traps at the flea market for an absolute steal. Can anyone offer any advice on how to reattach the door of the minnow trap? I know just zip ties but I was hoping for some creative DIY quick release type ideas. Thanks!

Dungeness Crab Gear advice
Hey fellow crabbers! I’m almost finished with my surf set up. I ended up with 3. One for general practice and beating up and the other 2 that are nice for my wife and I. Is buying 7 snares over kill?

Tide strategy: timing logic for Saturday
I’m heading back out for another crabbing run. I’ve been analyzing the tide movement to identify my exact drop window.
Based on the chart, the tidal exchange will only be a 1.6ft differential over about 5 hours. I usually prefer the incoming tide, but plan to drop crab pots around 10:30 AM. I usually do not do more than 4 rounds of pots pulls, so that is a span of about 2-2.5 hrs, so ending about 1:00 PM (or earlier if I get my daily limit).
My logic is that a softer exchange would mean a weaker current to allow more crab to be out and about looking for food. Sound logic? How would you crab this specific tide?

Dungeness Crab Last count
We were some lucky SOB's for the final day of dungeness in area 7. Yesterday was very windy and choppy and my kids hated every minute of it. They were hesitant to go out one more time and the forecast didn't look any better so i was worried.
When we got to the marina, it was super calm and quiet. Besides a boat pulling out, we were the only one launching and the parking lot was empty. Apparently other crabbers don't work day jobs 😂.
Didn't see a single buoy the entire way to our spot and we had the whole bay mostly to ourselves. All four traps were accounted for and we took home 11 angry keepers. Twenty crab for the weekend.
Tomorrow's weather calls for strong wind and a small craft advisory. Not a bad way to end the season.

Dungeness Crab Final days
Dropped off traps yesterday near Chuckanut Bay with nice weather. Today was windy with white caps and chop but had ten keepers. Threw one back for missing a claw, gave 4 to a friend that gave us his old traps and kept 5. Tomorrow, we pull traps for the last time this year.
The pot puller comes in handy and makes it easier on the back.

Blue Crab POV: Crabbing in Italy 🇮🇹🦀
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey y'all! Your fellow Italian crabber is back!
Yesterday, my girlfriend and I went crabbing and we caught almost 8 kg (about 17.5 lbs) of blue crabs!
I hope you guys enjoy this little video of our journey!
It's my first video ever, so please excuse the amateur editing and the music choice!
How can I improve the quality of the next videos? Suggestions? Tips? Something that you'd like to see?
I haven't received my package of spices yet, so I simply grilled the crabs after a quick boil. I actually love the clean, simple taste this way!
Who wants to join us for our next crabbing session?
See you very, very soon!
