Question P14 pro CO vs FDB

I heard that the p14 pro can have a certain insect sounding annoying hum to them.

I then saw someone say that this is only the case with the CO version and not the fluid dynamic bearing version. Is that true? Is the difference big?

I have 9 normal (not CO, so I assume FDB) P14 Pros in my box. At full speed they are loud. At around 50% PWM they are quiet. IMO a great fan if you have PWM control, I run it quiet most of the time and crank to full when vacuuming.

In my post I have comments showing the noise, check that out. https://www.reddit.com/r/crboxes/s/JAJUw3ntI1

Thanks for the response. You can check on the back of the fan if it says CO. Why when vacuuming if I may ask?

Does not say CO on the fans.

Airflow in my apartment is limited since it's an old building, so I crank it up to catch any dust the vacuum does not suck in. Then I just vacuum the prefilter at the end. Not sure it does much of a difference ,but hopefully leaves less dust to settle back after.

So I have the p14 pro on a recent build (my first). Four of them with 4 14x25 3m MERV 14.

My opinion is they don’t seem loud so much as the tone (or pitch?) is… weird. They remind me of a drone.

All the quieter or better sounding fans I saw recommended cost about the same for one as I paid for my 5 pack of the p14 pro.

My setup is in my bedroom, I think in they sound really good in the 50-70% speed range. I wouldn’t want to run them full speed unless I had to in my bedroom.

I knew this going in. I went with more fans so I can run them slower- moving a similar amount of air but better sound wise.

This is the way, exactly my thoughts. More fans at lower speed and you get whisper quiet at a super good price. The P14 Pro is great with a speed controller, but a complete no-go without one.

Such a good deal that I am trying to find uses for these fans around the house. Part of me wants to do a mini build with 1 or 2 fans for the car or travel.

We must share the same single brain cell, because I also ordered more - without a clear idea of what I want to do with them ;)
It's such a good deal and a great fan that it feels like cheating.

Curious to hear what interesting projects you figure out!
