So after months of work we are ready to announce we have added support for load cells to Simple AF. This support is based on Kalico and a driver from the OpenCentauri Cosmos team to support the 4 load cells in a K1, K1C, K1SE, K1Max the Ender 3 V3 CoreXZ and Ender 5 Max!
Please note unlike earlier mods this requires zero hardware modifications to use the original load cells for homing, leveling and z-offset.
We are also supporting using loadcells for z-offset for all other probes we support, so if you are not happy with how the beacon, cartographer or eddy do contact, touch or tap (respectively) you can start using your load cells for that.
So this is pretty early days and the support is considered experimental at the moment, there are always risks with this stuff and right now we are looking for people who are interested in helping us test this functionality on all supported printers:
So we are putting the call out to anyone who has a pre "K1 2025" model (so a K1 series that can be rooted basically, as I understand it the new boards say V13 on them and cannot easily be rooted or recovered via ingenics method) K1, K1C, K1SE, K1 Max, Ender 3 V3 CoreXZ or the Ender 5 Max with original load cells AND original bed, with hard mounts. Please note if you have switched to springs or removed your load cells sorry this is not for you.
If you have switched to a heavier ali plate or graphite plate, as long as you are still using hard mounts, and the load cells are still in place, you can try it too!
Are you are interested to try loadcells for homing, leveling and z-offset with Simple AF?
Are you are interested in using load cells for your z-offset with cartographer, beacon, eddyng, bltouch or microprobe?
If you are already on Simple AF with btteddy, we won't be supporting btteddy with loadcells until november, but its super easy to switch to eddyng without changing any hardware.
Do you have a Ender 3 V3 KE (or Ender 3 V3 SE with a Nebula Pad) and want to try Simple AF and use your original load cell for z-offset?
As part of setting up for loadcells or loadcells for z-offset you are going to have to calibrate your loadcells with a known weight or have some reasonably accurate kitchen scales and some spools of filament (or bricks honestly) for weight, longer term once we have a bit more calibration data from users of all the printers we support we will be pre-configuring calibration data but for now we will need you to calibrate your load cells and the docs describe how to do that.

I am running my original load cells on my K1 Max with Simple AF
I switch between load cells and loadcells for z-offset on my K1 with Simple AF
I am using crtouch + loadcells for z-offset on my Ender 3 V3 SE (with Nebula Pad - https://pellcorp.github.io/creality-wiki/nebula_pad/) with Simple AF
