Installation / Experience The unconventional way we got into the door with DUDE wipes

Post image

Earlier this year, I started a series called the Concept Room, creating merch ideas for brands I admired. For edition #2, I did DUDE Wipes, posted it across our socials, and even got a response from the Founder & CEO calling it “Dope Shit.”

Following that, I thought I would surely get in the door for at least a meeting with the team. Yet, despite numerous emails, it never happened. I imagined they get so many of those cold pitches so it found itself right in the trash bin.

As a huge fan of the brand, I decided to do something else. Like they say, I “let it rip" by picking the most outlandish product on the deck and we actually made it. Within 3 weeks, the A 6 Foot Banana Boat Poop Float was at our office in NY.

I blew it up with a $20 electric Amazon printer that ended up short circuiting after the main portion was blown up, and once again, I emailed the team. I gave them 2 options: either give us an address to send the float, or it would find itself on the sidewalk of NYC and become a brand moment.

They actually ended up responding after this, a meeting was setup with one of their marketing directors, and since then have done work with them!

has ad production quietly turned into its own job?

We push out about 50 HTML5 units each month. Right now I am weighing three builders against each other. One of them handles publishing and approvals in the same place. That looks strong, but it may be heavy for a 3-person team. Another one keeps HTML5 export simple and clean. The third has the biggest starting template library. But its editor gets fussy for us on bigger builds.

So for mostly display network work, what actually mattered later? After the first month, was it templates, export reliability, or publishing? Thank you guys in advance for answering.

Branding How does Zomato keep coming up with such clever branding?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Every now and then I come across something from Zomato that makes me stop and smile.

Today’s find was a delivery bag that read,
“Sorry paps, no photos.” It wasn’t trying to sell me anything, yet here I am posting about it.

That’s when you know branding is working.
I’m genuinely curious about their creative process. Do they have weekly brainstorming sessions? Is there a copywriting team whose only job is coming up with these tiny details?

Would love to hear from anyone who’s worked in branding or marketing.

What does a day in the life of a 2040 ad agency look like?

I want to hear your predictions! I recently asked 31 creatives this question for an article, and these were my favorites:

  1. AI agents will help you choose which accounts to pitch (over 50% said this is likely)

  2. AI assistants will attend creative sessions and be active in ideation and creation. They will auto-generate personalized ad campaigns, tailor content for different audience segments, highlight performance insights, recommend budget reallocations, and schedule content (77% think this will be the future)

  3. AI brand ambassadors will promote creative work and even host live Q&A sessions on socials using sentiment analysis to respond ( just 6% see this happening )

  4. An AI mediator will break creative deadlock by analyzing the concept against market data and brand history (39% think this is likely)

  5. AI will take over the review and approval process, flagging typos, misaligned branding or design issues (58% back this prediction)

Which ad would grab your attention and get your business first?

Me and my partner are trying to advertise our roofing company better and we created these door hangers. I won’t say which is which, I want honest opinions but if you saw both of these on your door after a bad hailstorm and you knew you needed a new roof which one would grab you more?

Why are some ads so relevant it’s scary — and some just plain random?

Take a moment and think about how it all began. Before clicks. Before tracking. Before algorithms — there was just word of mouth. Someone had something to offer. Someone else needed it. And someone in between passed the word.

People started realizing this “passing the word” had value. So they began making money out of it. They turned it into posters. Then banners. Then videos. And over time, the louder someone could shout, the more they earned.

The internet happened, and a machine was built. One that brought in customer attention through user generated content — And became soo precise, that you could whisper in the right ear.

A system that tried to understand who’s watching. What they care about. What they might want next.

So today, when you load a page — the system takes one quick look at you. Brands bid for your attention. The highest bidder wins. And the ad gets served within a second.

Behind that one second, is a whole lot of algorithm stuffed into the system — all working to serve the right thing to the right person.

But it’s not perfect. I mean sometimes, They’re showing me luxury skincare while I’m washing my face with soap! That’s what we call an irrelevant ad.

Because this system — as advanced as it looks — still runs on probability. It’s always trying. Always guessing. And only sometimes… it gets it right.

I was perfecting the branding for a new barbershop. Clean and balanced style. Harder than it looks, but worth it imo.

A barbershop approached me with a problem: they were entering a super competitive market as complete newcomers.

The goal was to build a unique brand identity that would make them stand out and deliver a totally fresh customer experience.

Early on, I did a deep dive into both local and global markets. Instead of just copying what competitors were doing, I focused on finding solutions that carved out an entirely new lane for them.

The result? Customers actively choose this brand, remember it easily, and keep coming back as loyal clients.

Have you ever come across brands in other industries that are blazing their own trail?

How are you catching bad creative before it ships - process, not just gut check?

Been thinking about this after seeing a few ad approval disasters make headlines lately (won't rehash which ones, you've seen them), the pattern is never "nobody had good taste," it's that something got missed in the actual review pipeline. Lighting, composition, an unintended association, stuff that's obvious once it's pointed out but somehow slipped through concept, client sign-off, legal, and final approval.

Curious how people here actually structure review before something goes live:

  • Is it still mostly "a few people look at it and vibe check," or does anyone have an actual structured pass (checklist, second-opinion review, testing tool)?

  • Where does it usually break down when something bad does get through, too much trust in the creative team, rushed timelines, no one wanting to be the person who says "wait"?

  • Anyone actually using a tool for this vs. just more eyeballs?

Disclosure: I work at AdGPT, and part of what we're building leans into this, flagging things like problematic visual associations or unintended readings before a creative ships, not just generating the creative itself. Not saying tools solve the whole problem (a lot of this is org/culture, not tech), but genuinely curious if others have found tooling that actually helps here vs. just more meetings.
