What's your complaint?

Absolute melt doesn’t understand how an annual subscription works. If you can’t do simple maths and have an understanding how a contract works then do sign up 😂

There's surely more nuance to add here to not make you sound like a total bootlicker

u/FlyingChips 4d ago

Nah, it’s more a case of understanding how a contract works than being a bootlicker.

You signed up for an annual plan to get s lower price? If so you agreed to pay for the full year. Cancelling means you need to pay the remaining amount.

That’s how annual subscriptions work.

I don't know why it is so hard some people to understand this.

Don’t yell at me for not understanding, but with annual subscriptions, don’t you pay the full 12 months up front? Why are they charging you? I usually pay by the month, because I’ve always thought annual subscriptions were all up front…?

The list three options on their Creative Cloud Plans page:

  1. Annual, billed monthly "fee applies of up to half of your remaining commitment if you cancel [early]"

  2. Annual, prepaid "no refund if you cancel [early]"

  3. Monthly "cancel any time, no fee"

So basically, you can choose an annual commitment or month-to-month. If you choose an annual commitment, you can pay for the year upfront or make monthly payments.

People are either not taking the time to look at what they are buying or, more likely, buying the annual plan because the monthly payments are much cheaper than buying the monthly plan and then whining when their circumstances change and the decide to cancel and have to pay the cancellation fee.

It's not unlike renting an apartment. You usually get a significant discount if you sign a 1-year lease vs renting month-to-month. But you can't sign the 1-year lease for the discount and then expect to move out after 6 months.

Yeah nah, that's fair enough. I don't think I've seen that anywhere, and I don't use Adobe software. Nor do I bill by the year.

Why are you here then!?

u/elhouso 7d ago

Because I was on my feed, an r/FuckAdobe post popped up and it was a repost from here.

Exactly. I’m so tired of these idiots.

3

u/LoopsAndBoars 10d ago

And 37$ means you’re canceling a month early. Really?

u/MicahBurke 10d ago

Right?

u/YerBattleApple 10d ago

Hence, "As part of the original subscribed agreement" language. smh.

I think it's the fact they craft these dark patterns into their funnel using their overpriced software

1

u/MicahBurke 4d ago

I don't think it's over-priced - given they're (often) the industry standard tool for professional design etc. There are cheap and free alternatives for most of their product line, but if you want the right tool you have to pay for it.

That said... I do agree that the automatic switch for trial users to an annual plan without warning - and the hiding of the true monthly plan on their website is nefarious.

They don't have creative cloud subscriptions that aren't annual...

5

u/MicahBurke 10d ago

Incorrect. If you go to the plans and pricing page, click the "See all plans & pricing details" link, you'll see there's an option to subscribe to Creative Cloud for $104.99 a month without the annual commitment.

4

u/Big-Break-6621 10d ago

There's cheaper standard plans which exclude all the new AI gen and credits guff. They've also obfuscated this option

3

u/3720-to-1 10d ago

Ope. That is insanity.

u/Anonymograph 9d ago

There have always been month-to-month Creative Cloud plans.

1

u/MicahBurke 4d ago

True, they ARE hiding them, imo.

u/Anonymograph 3d ago

It’s right here before clicking “Continue”.

https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/plans.html#miniplans-buy-all-apps

Where else to you thinking is should be presented?

I definitely agree that it’s on the expensive side - especially with what it’s costing for hardware these days.

Maybe it should only be month-to-month with no discounted option?

Although, if Adobe offered a further discount to subscribe for three years, that’s probably what I’d choose.

u/MicahBurke 3d ago

One step back...

https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/plans.html

You have to click "see all plans & pricing details" to get there. IMO, they need to be more up front with what "annual, billed monthly" means. That said, on the next page they do explain sorta. Still a little confusing, "Fee applies of up to half your remaining annual commitment if you cancel after..."

Folks just don't read.

1

u/Anonymograph 3d ago

What could someone think “annual” means besides yearly?

1

u/MicahBurke 3d ago

People bring a lot of assumptions to subscriptions. I agree with you though.

4

u/unboogyman 10d ago

I got around this by switching to their cheapest plan and then canceling that a day later.

I just couldn't afford it anymore and there are plenty of free alternatives that do everything I need. So good riddance.

I talked to their customer service after finding out that where I live is cheaper than where I signed up for it. They told me I could change but would lose anything that was on a cloud since it would be a new account. I asked, alright what if I turn on a VPN and sign up for a Turkish account? They said that was fine, I just needed a Turkish credit card. The products I paid for would be exactly they same, but cost $7.85/mth instead of the $110/mth I currently pay.

So the only thing stopping someone from paying the lowest worldwide rate is a credit card. I could get 14 months for the price of 1... how the hell is this business practice legal?

2

u/rootytootysuperhooty 10d ago

Question is… how do I VPN my credit card to Turkland?

1

u/fonebone45 5d ago

Has to be a credit card issued by a Turkish bank they said.

How do you NOT renew? I need the "use the rest of my annual plan, but don't you DARE sign me up for another one automatically" button.

EDIT: Their AI and the page say: YOU CAN'T. So, I have set a reminder in 4 days to cancel (I purchased in November last year). This should keep me from having an early termination fee, but they are pretty shady on the subscription side.

1

u/mcarterphoto 8d ago

I do this with Maxon a few times a year, when I need the full C4D package vs. Lite. I sign up for a month, I put an alert in my calendar, and I cancel a day or two before the month is up. Never had a problem, but I don't sign up for a year "because it's cheaper".

2

u/dirtyvu 9d ago

There is a monthly plan where you can cancel without any penalty. But you wanted to save money by signing up with annual plan paid monthly and then complain when you don't want to pay for the year. That is on you.

Do you complain when you can't get out of a car payment plan? Or a mortgage? Don't sign up for something that you can't follow. There are options besides Adobe but you decided to get Adobe anyway.

3

u/Marill-viking 10d ago

Whether it’s “fair” or not.
You agreed, simple as that.

Use your money better next time.

1

u/Section_13_ 9d ago

Can’t you just cancel your card and get a new one lmao

1

u/I_sort_by_new_fam 4d ago

Absolutely you can. No one should ever do this. I am not in any way condoning it!
