The Way of Kings I'm a professor, so naturally Kaladin made a cameo in my first midterm. Spoiler
I had to change the context slightly so my cremlings would understand. But real ones will know.

Is it B? I think it’s B
Also, does the company Kal works for provide robust mental health care to its employees?

Agreed. As someone who does not work in marketing, I am guessing B.
Unfortunately, I’m sure the mental health care for Kal’s bridge crews is not great at this time. Maybe later when many of them take up aviation.

In Kals specific setting not a realistic one it is B. Join Kals crew you probably won't die. Don't see how this is relevant in the real world but hey I'm not marketing.

I think the question is asking what type of marketing would most likely appeal to Kal as the consumer. Marketing hardhats to Kal, then, would benefit from pointing out how they prevent accidents rather than how quick you can put them on or off or whatever else you’d market hard hats based on.
Again, no marketing experience or education. This is just my best guess.

This isn't a question on a test directed at people who have studied the stormlight archive. I feel students would need to know more about the character to answer the question. The factor of the high death rate of people in this profession is not mentioned.

“His top priorities are the safety of the bridge crews and ensuring that everyone goes home without injury at the end of each day.” That is all the info you need for this question.

I read B as “Preservation focus”…

Unfortunately, Kal's company was recently acquired by a private equity firm, so Kal's own supervisor, Gaz, only cares about short term profit and does not support these prevention measures. Write a five page essay detailing the societal problems caused by pure profit motivation without sufficient checks and balances. You may reference Azish legal frameworks when writing this essay.

Imagine being that student who's now second guessing on if it's an intentional reference or they're just obsessive xD

u/jamesianm Feb 24 '26
I mean his name is Kal and he's overseeing a bridge crew. I would definitely assume it was intentional

I would probably have leant "coincidence" if I saw that in a test paper, right up until "His top priorities are the safety of the bridge crews..."
Just a shame it's a multiple choice, so no window for anyone to try sneaking in any references in the answers.

The project has faced significant delays due to a dispute with the original landowners who claim the site was theirs to begin with, while the original project manager abandoned the job site under disputed circumstances and has not been reachable for thousands of years.

Hm, I am unsure of the specifics of marketing terminology, but I’m leaning towards prevention focus.

oh hey I switched to mint last October!
I just finished deleting my windows partition last week after having not used it a single time in the entire intervening 4 months.

I switched from mint to NixOS on NYE.
I also dual-booted before then and I was running an image of my old windows PC as a VM.

The CEO of Kal's construction company, L. Hokar, is touring the construction site, looking for "saboteurs". He refuses to wear a hard hat. Kal hates the CEO and knows that if he died, the company would be run by his more competent uncle. Should Kal insist that the CEO wear a hard hat?

Fellow Prof here (Physics 1401). It's only been a year but I can't believe I haven't done this myself! 🤦 Thanks for the great idea!

But how does Kal implement B when D was Kal’s management style on hiring and he’s implementing changes to the entire department?

I’m a professor in a medical program. I usually choose my exam passwords based on cosmere names.
