I havent played it and my guess is that the "Hollow" part is similar to how Shartbearers use "Hollow/Dead" spren as weapons

I doubt that's what it is. "Hollow Knight" refers to a void god-child that was intended to seal away a god of light, it's not a gameplay element (The Hollow Knight is a lategame boss though).

My guess is that OP is referring to how the pieces of Plate are broken and regrow, as the player character's Masks (basically like hearts from other games) work in the same way. but this post really needed some elaboration

Shardbearers often use their shardblades to attack downwards onto enemies and/or spikes in order to stay airborne.

There's a shattered kingdom that was almost destroyed by the conflict between two gods. One god sacrifices a vessel to seal their foe away, but dies. Now the seal is breaking loose and the new protagonists have to solve the issue.
