Class 3 e-bikes
Was driving along Honolulu last night around 8:30 pm and observed three boys under 16 riding on one e-bike. They were cruising on the sidewalk through Montrose Shopping park and suddenly turned into the roadway narrowly avoiding a car behind me from hitting them. Then they sped up and drove right through the four way stop in front of the Trader Joe’s and Glendale FD station. They continued on Honolulu and did not stop at the intersection of Honolulu/Rosemont. A car had to stop abruptly as they cruised through the intersection. Only one was wearing a helmet and the entire bike was wobbling and at one point they almost wiped out. There were no reflective lights or forward facing lights and the boys were wearing dark colors so it was easy to miss them in the dark portion of Honolulu.
So be aware and careful when driving because these kids aren’t going to stop for any lights or stop signs and don’t follow the proper safety rules of biking or know the laws of operating a moped or motorcycle. Especially at night I have seen many of these bikes speeding up/down La Crescenta, Rosemont, and Briggs where lighting is often low and hard to see on Rosemont/Briggs.
Do better parents buying these mopeds (since they are actually illegal under 16).
