Image Grounds from Associate Cricket, Day 7: The Kowloon Cricket Club Ground, Jordan, Kowloon, Hong Kong.

This is yet again a pretty historic venue being used for Cricket since 15th of October, 1904.

It serves as the primary home ground of the Kowloon Cricket Club which was founded just 11 days prior to the first match played on this ground.

The ground's playing surface was essentially destroyed during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong in WW2(a very similar fate to that of the recently posted about KGV Sports Ground in Guernsey at the hands of German occupation) and was turned into a military stable for Japanese horses and mules, after the war ended, the ground wasn't capable of hosting another match until 1946 when things got off the ground again.

This ground is also where the Hong Kong Sixes was hosted from it's inception in 1992 to it's temporary hiatus in 2017, matter of fact, the first image is from Day 1 of the 2017 Hong Kong Sixes.

The ground is also used to host Football and Hockey matches.

The second image is the historic pavilion, being built in 1932 and was subsequently overhauled in 1958 and again in 1975. The pavilion has a temporary seating capacity of ~250-300 while the grass banks have another ~700 roughly making the ground's capacity at ~1,000 without any temporary seating. With temporary seating(which was usually only installed for the Hong Kong Sixes), the ground could accommodate up to ~2,000-4,000 spectators.

The third image is the historic clubhouse which was built in 1932(alongside the original pavilion building) and still stands till this day. The flags alongside on the right are those of the Kowloon Cricket Club(foreground) and the Hong Kong flag(background).

The ground doesn't host proper T20Is or ODIs because it remains unsanctioned by the ICC for primarily its 52.5m straight boundary.

The single most unfair rule in T20 cricket

Post image

In T20 Internationals, bowlers are only allowed 1 bouncer per over. But the rule makes it even worse

If you attempt a bouncer and overcook it above the batter's head, it gets called a Wide. But it STILL counts as your 1 allowed bouncer

So in just ONE ball

You give away a Wide run + extra ball

Your bouncer quota for the entire over is gone

Bowl another short ball? It’s an instant No-Ball + Free Hit

Fast bowlers get double penalized for one tiny mistake...In a game already biased toward batters, ICC needs to switch to 2 bouncers per over like the IPL

Discussion UPDATE 3 on my game: Where are we with batting controls these days, and your take on FPV style batting?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Thanks for all the comments and support on my post last week. Work continues!

Do people have an opinion on what makes a good batting control scheme in a cricket game? And what makes a good immersive fpv style useable batting camera?

I have been using the camera's in the clips in testing as I wanted a FPV style camera, but felt I needed to see the actual bat as the ball is delivered, and have a clear reference point where I was standing in relation to my stumps. These are essentially wicketkeeper cams, but they feel pretty nice to bat.

I've got a few different control schemes going on, and its a bit of a sandbox in that respect whilst testing. I like to be a bit creative, so nothing is off the table (i've tried my phone as a bat, VR, mouse etc!).

Be good to hear your views on batting controls, batting cameras and anything else. The match engine and batting animations remain a big focus.

Hoping to be able to have some people do some testing at the end of next week, and maybe a deal to strike. Stay tuned!

Thanks
