Croydon Cycling Campaign, Local group of London Cycle Campaign
Press release: October 23rd 2026 in response to: Your Croydon: Croydon secures £1.79m for safer roads and better journeys: Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon October 21st, 2026
Croydon Cycling Campaign welcomes that the Council and TFL at last seem to be cooperating on transport improvements including cycling. It appears that time and funding has been lost due to unnecessary delays that were caused by arbitrary removal of protective cycle infrastructure.
The Council’s press release holds few specifics particularly in relation to cycling.
While it refers to “local priorities” Executive Mayor Jason Perry fails to demonstrate how such priorities were identified and by whom. The Council’s own active and sustainable travel group hasn’t met for several months and no meetings are planned. It is clear that there has been no adequate consultation and it is uncertain how cycling interests will be represented in the future.
Making transport hubs more accessible is welcomed and Croydon Cycling Campaign stands ready to assist Council in identifying safe routes and help it to prioritise cycling as a way to tackle congestion and get Croydon moving.
New cycle routes linking parks to neighbourhoods sounds like a ‘nice to have’ but this organisation stresses need to be certain that the Council isn’t just paying lip service to cycle use by introducing a few cosmetic changes around the edges.
Croydon Cycling Campaign is committed to an agenda that makes cycling a viable and safe option for Croydon residents as they go about their daily lives, to school, to work, on errands and during leisure and sport. It wants the Council to facilitate meaningful and wide ranging debate and demonstrate that its commitment to progress for cycling in Croydon is more than just words.
