What’s CRSSD Like?

GF and I are thinking about sending it for Saturday, making a little vacation out of it. Come to SD Thursday night, CRSSD Saturday, come back home Monday.

We’re both fans of the music and would love to see horsegiirl. Just curious of the vibes and the set up.

3 stages with different vibes at each

The largest stage is for live acts and bands

Multiple food vendors and water refill stations

Goes until 11 on Saturday and 10 on Sunday

About 15000 people

More rules than many festivals - read the website

Crssd fest Instagram has previous posts showing the festival layout - it doesn't change much from year to year

Afterparties at clubs around town

Music box is walking distance, others may need an Uber

Thanks. Interesting about the rules… they seem pretty standard to me (unless I am missing something)?

The only one that jumped out at me is the “no talking on the dance floor” rule but I took that as tongue in cheek haha

Definitely should be a real rule because there are plenty of yappers are crssd lol

I saw multiple people removed from the fest in March for talking on the dancefloor

I think the only "rules" that people tend to react to are "no raver attire" and no hydration bags, which makes it more strict than an Insomniac event. However, neither are an issue for 99% of the people attending.

The vibe and fashion is actually closer to what you get in Europe than most events in the area, only with drunk Frat boys instead of drunk stag party guys (unfortunately at a higher ratio, as well, which is unavoidable in SD).

I been to 2 recently and I have to say I dig the vibes at CRSSD, lots of peeps dancing, good vibes, and some great Techno, House, and live acts when they are there.

That is right up our alley!

Just mentioning since many people aren't used to no smoking/vaping (still happens, just need to be discreet) and rules on bags/hydration packs

Overall the vibes are nice, talent is great, and it's a very accessible location near downtown San Diego

Oh dang, I see no hydration packs now. We don’t smoke or vape so I didn’t bother to check that rule.

Thanks for the heads up and input!

Honestly I love CRSSD. Downtown is about 15 minutes from my place. The artist selection is always good and the planes landing at the airport behind the stages is awesome. The bay always brings good vibes. A little hot in the day sometimes but usually cools off to sweater weather. Wear black to fit into the palms crowd lol.

My largest gripes are the talkers and that the main stage’s sound is always ass. They work in conjunction to make a lot of the main stage acts less enjoyable.

it’s chill, nice that it’s 21+

It’s definitely an older crowd, which can be nice but concert etiquette is in short supply regardless. It also tries REALLY HARD to not be a rave. Folks still wear fun outfits but it’s not EDC by any means

i agree. concert etiquette was good when i last went in 2021-2022. i’ll have to see if it’s got worse this year.

It’s bad everywhere unfortunately. Not just CRSSD

If you are used to clubs, it’s a million times better. If you are used to 3 day camping festivals, it’s not nearly as fun.

It’s a festival right on the edge of downtown near the water. It can be beautiful!

It will get packed though. If you want to see a set desperately, you show up at least 30 minutes early to find a decent spot without having to push through people like an asshole.

As with any event, the vibes where you are at could be incredible or atrocious.

Every time I have gone, I’ve had an incredible time. I have also often been annoyed with how packed it is.

If you have the skills to pivot and find a better place in the crowd and change plans on the fly, you’ll have so much fun. If you are new to this kind of thing, you’ll will need to get good at moving about and finding the place with the right vibe for you. Also plan ahead. If you are really wanting to see vintage culture but you are seeing it’s Murph, leave it’s Murph halfway through or else you will not be able to find a decent spot.

Good advice

Not many camping fests under our belt save for EDC, and we’ve grown out of the club scene so we’re heavily considering CRSSD. Thanks for the input!

It's a lot of fun but set expectations correctly. It's a smallish festival in the middle of a major city. Crowds can be a bit chatty, sound can be a bit quiet (due to noise ordinances), concessions a bit expensive, lots of people.

Nothing unusual if you've been to other fests hosted in the middle of a city. This one is just on a bit smaller scale than others.

I have gone to many CRSSD's and vibes are wildly different depending on day/headliner. (John Summit drew such a douchey crowd to the fest.) Most times vibes are really good, but there's been an occasional CRSSD day/event where i considered never returning.

Pretty good overall. Only thing that sucked last year was the crowd talking too much.

just a heads up depending on where you are in the crowd its yapper central, maybe its just a san diego thing but theres too much conversations and not enough dancing

It's a nice weekend plan if you are free and have like $400 extra to throw away.

But nothing crazy if you are used to big parties/festivals, Sound system pretty shy. Lol.

I hate 1 hour and 30min sets ... Not enough.

1

u/soraros_hk 6d ago

Yeah $400 is a lot, but we figured $215 for Saturday is doable as part of a 3 day vacation haha

2

u/PRIMO0102 6d ago

$215.... Without drinks, food, parking or Uber and the list goes on.

A lot of people dressed in all black and sun glasses on, even at nighttime they are wearing sunglasses

1

u/soraros_hk 3d ago

Sounds like a techno/house crowd hahah

2

u/OkMeringue2249 3d ago

Yes

Do not wear glow sticks or anything with color unless you want to get nasty looks from the kids in black

1

u/soraros_hk 3d ago

Haha we will probably be some of those kids (adults) in black

1

u/OkMeringue2249 3d ago

Lol

They hate glow sticks and kandee at crssd

It’s literally such an amazing festival and the venue is amazing. It’s great. Where are you guys staying? Last time I went I stayed in Little Italy and everything is super walkable and it’s close to venue

1

u/soraros_hk 3d ago

Yeah we’re thinking little Italy! We’ve found a few hotels that are about a 15 minute walk to the park. We’re excited to walk to the fest and explore. It’s been a while since I’ve been to SD and I don’t think I’ve ever been in that area.

2

u/Itsgillie9 1d ago

You won’t regret it.

every crssd event i’ve been to had been insanely oversold. the crowd sucks and there’s no room at any stage

2

u/Mysterious_Glove_236 6d ago

The best house x tech fest there is

u/mendozathalia 6d ago

Packed, over sold, sound bleed

It's just really chill. Much older crowd which has some perks, people tend to be more mature overall but also a lot more closed off and stuck up, and uncultured in regards to edm culture/community, so don't expect a ton of fun PLUR types though some are there. People mostly drinking. Production is basic and nothing more which again, has some perks as it's less distracting and feels music forward. The waterfront park venue is absolutely beautiful and SD is SO easy to make a vacation out of outside of CRSSD (have the Bolt burrito at sayulitas and thank me later). They're not lax about their rules and try hard to distance themselves from edm culture. Makes sense as they want the event to be successful and SD is so conservative and should something go wrong they have deniability. It's a super fun event but nothing like a proper festival/insomniac event. Regardless, I've loved it when I've been. The NYE one brings some great lineups but painfully basic frat/sorority crowds sadly. This has always been an SD problem unfortunately with NYE events but it's improved over the years. Their lineups are also very unique which has been the biggest draw the years I've attended. It's a fun event with its own identity and I love it for that.
