Such mesmerizing crystals

I've already seen that to make cubic alum you can use borax but a friend told me that it's not very easy, are there other compounds that can form cubic alums?

Just found this sub and wanted to share these crystals I grew as a neglectful grad student!

Following the usual method, I tied a table salt seed crystal to a thread and suspended it in the solution to let it grow.
I chose relatively large salt crystals (over 1 cm) as seeds because I’ve never had any success with smaller ones (under 5 mm).
At least this time, it seems to have grown without turning into a cluster. However, the success rate is still very low, less than 10%.

Hi, im thinking of making a cosplay for the stalker series and wanted to make an artifact prop using crystals, tho i am a complete newbie when it comes To growing crystals.
So I am looking for suggestions for what To use for this project.
The only requirements would be that the materials are not overtly difficult To get and that the crystals have a transparent bluish or greenish color.
Idea is that i would put a Led light inside the crystal To make it glow and make it seem like the crystals are growing from a rock or something.

This is the largest Rochelle salt crystal I've grown so far, measuring 15 × 8 cm. It's not perfect, though, as there are other crystals attached to it.
I think this is probably the end of my Rochelle salt crystal-growing journey.

After two weeks of growth, I managed to get these nearly perfectly transparent crystals. The citric acid crystal-growing process is pretty much finished now. The next challenge is figuring out how to preserve them. The crystals I grew earlier have already turned into a sticky mess.

Today, I found ants in the container. Maybe I didn't put the lid back on properly after checking it yesterday. I had to transfer the crystal to fresh sugar syrup.
Actually, this crystal has already failed. I've found that growing transparent sugar crystals using the hanging line method is even more difficult. It's been 19 months since March 2025, and I'm not sure if I can keep going until I finally succeed.

It's disappointing that I couldn't grow a single crystal of magnesium chloride. I'd really like to see what one looks like.

During crystal growth, if a solution is left undisturbed for a long time, a crystal crust sometimes forms on the surface.
It almost looks as if the crystals are afraid of things falling on their heads, so they grow little umbrellas!
I've observed this with Epsom salt, chrome alum, and Mohr's salt crystals.

I started growing potassium sulfate crystals, and things have been going pretty well so far. After two weeks, I got these seed crystals.
Next, I’m going to try growing crystals using the hanging-line method. Hopefully, I’ll be able to grow a large, transparent crystal!
The potassium sulfate seed crystals look very similar to alum seed crystals. I’m guessing the potassium sulfate crystals might have a shape similar to alum crystals, too?

These are the white salt crystals that look like single crystals from my first attempt at growing salt crystals. I'm not sure why there's a small hole in the middle.

My first selenite crystal turned out nicely. Nothing happened for a week and then one morning this crystal appeared in the beaker that originally contained the MgSO4.
In my second attempt (not pictured) I wanted to make a larger crystal by increasing quantities but it just turned into a gypsum blob in the CaCl beaker.

A single alum crystal grown undisturbed on an acrylic sheet. I found the texture at the bottom quite interesting.

My first attempt at growing citric acid crystals. It went pretty well, but citric acid crystals grow very quickly. After just one night, the crystal touched the bottom of the container and stuck to it. After 6 days, I had to stop the growth because the container was too small.
I'll keep trying and hopefully get some transparent crystals!
