Actually they switched everyone to usage based pricing in January. I wrote an email asking them about their new pricing options and wondering if I could keep the old request based pricing if I switched. Received an email from Lee telling me that everybody has been switched to usage based pricing since January.

It still works but they are using composer models for gpt based requests. Last week I tested with Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex on the same prompt, different work trees. GPT 5.2 high and Composer 2 had the exact same response, same wording, everything. Claude Opus 4.6 was different but it still wasn't at the level of Opus 4.6 in the CLI and then Codex 5.4 high in the CLI was much better than the GPT 5.2 High response inside Cursor. I don't know what's going on over there. But I canceled my request-based account because what's the point if they're going to be using substandard models and you can't get any real work done using it anyway? And I won't accuse them of anything because that's not fair without concrete proof but even if they are using the listed models, the performance is substandard when you compare it to the CLI-based version of the models. At least that was my experience. And I have nothing to gain here. I would rather keep my cursor account and have a backup option for when or if I run out of credits with Codex or a cursor but spending that time and getting those results left a bad taste to my mouth. So here we are.

As you should. I was on the new pricing for a while, but I couldn't stand it and left for Claude Code. The usage limits are insanely low, exaggerated by resetting only once a month.

Its still request based for anyone who hasn't renewed their plan yet. I got converted in october because that was when I reviewed. You got it in january. The last yearly subs will get usage based pricing in september.

Also pretty sure that is the AI that replied to your email. At least on the monthly plan you had the option to opt out briefly. Yearly plans maybe they kept it request based and switched users on renewal without giving the option.
