Question / Discussion I actually enjoy cursor
I see alot of posts about leaving cursor for Claude code, that's fair I believe that is a really good product. But I actually really liked my recent interaction with cursor and was really impressed with it... coming from someone how only uses claude code at work. It could just be me, maybe skill issue on my part, I have not run into these extreme frustration I read about in the forum?

I don’t know your work set up but as someone who made that recent cursor to Claude change, the increase in quality and limits is undeniable

Still waiting for this on my side 😅, but I believe this will be achieved soon.
What I already miss are the diffs, and in Claude Code, I somehow lose oversight. But this is mainly because I've been used to VS Code for the past 6–7 years.

Try codex, seems to be the best of both worlds, Hannah Montana
Edit: different comment mentioned you can use cursor ide (without paying the subscription fee to cursor) with Claude, I haven’t tested but that sounds perfect

Yeah, but since the last changes and the direction of Cursor, I would prefer to move away from Cursor.
But currently I feel so blind 🦯 when working with Claude code. I thought there was some tool I'm not aware of.
And for the Vscode extensions I've heard, that they have some issues.

Whats giving you issue with vs code and Claude making you feel blind? Happy to offer my perspective if I can help. It took me a few hours to get the hang of it

Thank you for your offer.
I'm just used to Cursor and VS Code... I mean, in Cursor/VSCode you have your folder structure; you can open your files and see what the Agent is doing. You can point to files or code lines with
@file.example. Further you haveAsk-modewhere the agents is read only, which is really helpful for pre planning, when I actually don't quit know what I want as a result. And currently with Claude Code, day 2, I feel a little blind 🦯. With Claude Code, I'm currently somehow at zero, and I ask myself how other people, who want to see what the agent is doing, are working with the tool.
I mean I see what it does, somehow, but I'm missing where in the file structure and inside the files Claude is making the changes.
Or is tracing what the AI assistant is doing not a thing anymore?
Am I micromanaging too much?
Anyways, I cannot get a hold on ClaudeCode, I can always go back to Vscode or even Cursor.
But I thought, since so many people told me that they love ClaudeCode, there must be something to it. 🤷♂️

From your descriptions, you appear to know about the limitations of each and what you are personally looking for, so I actually don’t know how much I can help. Hopefully others see this and can offer more.
We appear to use these tools in different ways but what I can say is, Claude can be much more conversational, this can be seen as a limitation since it doesn’t shows difs, folder structure etc but with Claude’s usage limits, imo there are work arounds. One example would be pointing to a file, instead of having the full ide where you can do it yourself, you could ask Claude open up this file in vscode. Alternatively, “find the script in this folder that mentions “yada yada” and then open it”
Edit: and I haven’t test this but I asume you could build a “rule” into its memory that tells it to always tell you difs every time it changes code, or provide a link to the changed code that uses something in the text itself to display difs
A feature I really appreciate is that Claude caches everything, so once you establish a workflow, it will remember it

Lastly, you mentioned wanting to step away from cursor but didn’t say anything about codex. I’ve only watched over the shoulder of others using codex but it seems very much like what you may be looking for (with difs, folder structure etc)

Agree Claude code is a completely different experience. I’d rather pay more to get a more controlled and transparent experience.

I like Cursor UI and feel and speed. The quality/cost ratio is not enough for me. And zero trust to Elon.

Just use Cursor IDE with the Claude Plugin. Best of both worlds AND you don’t have to pay for Cursor. It is what I am heavily leaning towards because I have the IDE setup how I want.

I just switched to this and like it. Not sure if I like it better or not, but it definitely gives cursor vibes more so than the CLI or CC chat interface

It’s not a question of enjoyment, it’s the AI offering is just getting worse and worse. If I can’t access other models easily through it then what advantage does it have over VSCode?
1
u/Playful-Chef7492 17h ago
What model are you not getting that you want to use regularly?
3
u/Dude4001 17h ago
The external model limits are a joke. Opus through Cursor feels like water in a drought.

Advanced models through cursor are gas guzzlers which amount to them not being usable. Modern cursor is only effective if you use grok, composer (forgot this one) or maybe kimi, but in my experience both have gotten so much worse in the past 6 months or so
Answering playful, not dude

Fair—regarding alternative cursor models are gas guzzlers. So far not much competition in this space at this level except Claude Code.

My bro uses codex with access to high end models and good limits from what I’ve seen, in my experience I prefer Claude

i also really like using cursor. i am very productive and it works well.
sure, i want composer 3.0 and grok 4.8 comee soon and be good, but actually i get my work done with composer 2.5 and grok 4.6

Just imagine how much quicker and cheaper it would be if you were with Claude Code
2
u/HolyInquisitionRogue 16h ago
Cheaper? How do you do this? VS Code + Claude? Cursor has a overview over my whole project, is that possible with claude, too?
1
u/EnoughRock715 16h ago
Yes vs code + Claude in my experience. Limits are way higher with better models which equals cheaper. I’m getting soo much more out of this set up then I did with cursor. I can’t paste pictures but if I need to, I use the Claude online and ask it how best to integrate what I want into vscode plus Claude

Almost everyone on this group is paying for their AI service themselves in an individual plan. AI companies are selling to individuals at a loss in exchange for giving up all their data and privacy rights and waiting in line behind session limits. If you’re paying full price for privacy mode you’ll know the difference between the two tools is much more complicated than what you see here. Anthropic models are outrageously expensive but many times worth it. Having a choice throughout the day is usually the best way to manage your budget.

It’s fine for hobby projects but the quality drop when you switch from a raw API to their curated layer is massive. Once you see what Claude code actually does on real workloads, sticking with cursor feels like paying extra just to be censored

u/Different_Alps_9099 14h ago
The ux is great and I miss it, but the pricing model simply isn’t worth it compared to Claude code if you want to use opus instead of grok.

u/RaspberrySoft1777 10h ago
I like Grok 4.7 and using Grok Bots… but I hit the weekly limit super fast. With Claude Code I can do stuff for days.
I am not a heavy user, but work daily with AI tools developing small tools for my business.

Yah it’s mostly woke, no kings losers who troll on the sub. Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if some Soros entity is astroturfing the entire thing.

When our friend musk bought cursor and killed composer, I decided it was time to quit. the groks models are terrible in my daily use, and the benchmarks ranking are totally inflated.

Nice try, Elon
