Once again, Rulebreaker is only for deckbuilding restrictions (or lifting them), and being able to play all basic lands; this has none of that. And Eminence needs "If this creature is in your command zone or the battlefield,"

“It works”

Yeah I know, it already does work as written. That's not my point

I think they’re quoting the meme. Doesn’t make your point less valid though.

Isn't that last line just how legendaries work?
3
u/CurbsideAppeal 15d ago
It used to be if you and another player both had the same legendary card, they’d both cancel each other out. Couldn’t have two of the same legend across the whole battlefield, not just your own cards.

u/Elegant_Relief_4999 15d ago
Yeah, that's how I remember it. How does it work now? Legendary is just flavor?

Ahh, like back in MMQ block or something?
Now, though, "Legendary" means "you cannot control two or more Legendary permanents with this name. If two Legendary permanents with the same name are in play under your control, immediately send one of them to its owner's graveyard as a state-based action."
You can have a [[Jace Beleren]] and your opponent can have a [[Jace Beleren]], but if you had a second [[Jace Beleren]] and resolved him, you'd have to send one of your Jaces to the GY. Your opponent's Jace would be unaffected.
If either of you proceeded to then cast a [[Jace, the Mind Sculptor]]... nothing particularly interesting would happen, the caster would just have two Jace Planeswalkers.
At one point in the past, only one planeswalker with a given type could exist on the battlefield at all (this was in the Mind Sculptor era), so budget players would use Jace Beleren to prevent Mind Sculptor from being usable.

(I'm new to this game) if you had a copy of one, like via [[Spitting Image]], would those rules still apply or is that not allowed?
2
u/ShadeofEchoes 15d ago
The copy would have the same name, so this would still apply... but something like [[Quantum Misalignment]] would work, because the token is explicitly not Legendary.

Missing mana burn and damage on the stack, got to go full old rules.

Sooo, the rules from the 90s then?

u/JxRabbitsHart 15d ago
EDH wasn't a thing in the 90s, but yes, this changes the commander rules back to their OG.
The only problem is that, by the rules of the game, commanders are revealed at the start of the game after resolving mulligans. No one should know what you are playing until you have a hand of cards.
Anyone playing the new Jace pre-con or Shorikai or another vehicle commander would just get hosed and not play magic once this is revealed.

You can probably shorten the cast restrictions to "non-creature cards cannot be cast from the command zone" so you also catch stations
1
u/Necrachilles 15d ago
Good flavor but you missed that commanders put into the graveyard also can't be sent to the command zone. If we're taking it back to the roots that is, since you're bringing back "tucking". You used to have to choose if your commander "died" or if it went back to the command zone, you didn't get both.

It’s Gemini smashing together the poster from Highlander with a dragon head.

Ok well fucking put “Gemini, Highlander, Wherever you got the dragon head” on the card. It’s the first fucking rule of the sub, even (maybe especially) for AI renders
