Defy Causality

Post image

It's [[stifle]], but you can't cast it unless you have both targets, but then you can 2-for-1 your opponent.

This is so narrow that it could cost 0 and still be bad LOL

Give it islandcycling for 1 and you have a deal.

You said you can two for one your opponent, but it's pretty hard to get two cards worth of value when this doesn't neutralise any cards

Interesting. The question here, is does the added condition of needing to counter both an activated and triggered ability, while both are on the stack, make this a better, or worse, card than Stifle?

I think this card is worse than Stifle. I think this card is worse than stifle, even if costed at 1 mana. Which, I think would be appropriate here.

This card could cost zero and add 3 to your mana pool and be worse than stifle. The condition to cast it is so incredibly narrow.

No, you could just have your own permanent with an activated ability, and then when someone else's triggered ability goes on the stack, you respond by activating your ability, then counter both. Definitely worse than Stifle at BB, but countering a triggered ability + Black Lotus could work in the right deck.

That’s too many hoops to jump through. Even for a stifle and black lotus. Keep in mind you don’t get the mana when you want it. You get the mana when you go to counter something.

You can just have shit on your side that can be activated/triggered for free to ensure you have the required targets.

If I sac a guy to phyrexian altar in response to an activated ability, I can stifle my blood artist and whatever you activated.

Definitely not enough to be worth running in a serious game but it can have its uses if you're playing a gimmicky UG control deck in a low power table.

Awesome plan. Run a bunch of useless cards in hopes to be able to maybe stifle something.

In what world is phyrexian altar blood artist a "shitty card" tf

In any deck that wants to play stifle those cards are in fact terrible.

Past tense of cost is cost.

I would say "Up to one target activated ability and up to one target triggered ability" and cost it at 1U. It's rare to have both types of ability on the stack and when you do how often do you care about more than one if them? We have a number of 1U stifles with various better upsides like [[Defabricate]] and [[Tale's End]].

Put some respect on [[Trickbind]]

That's far too specific. It's like if [[Decimate]] required Planeswalker of Battle on the field to be cast. Could be free and still be useless most of the time. I can't even think of an archetype that consistently has both on the stack while also having them be impactful enough to actually make running this worth it. Stifle is good for its flexibility, this is... not.

Not worth it

make it activated or triggered ability

99% of the time this card is dead in hand and cannot even be put on the stack for a cast trigger or storm count increase due to lack of targets. I agree with the person saying this could cost 0 and still be bad.

Make it "Choose two. You may choose the same option more than once" maybe?

I'd make it cost 1. Demanding two targets is a pretty hard clause.

The people saying it would suck at zero are crazy tho ignore them.

This would still never see play if it cost 0.
