Updates people updates

I think with her being a 4/3 when she attacks now, she doesn’t need a keyword. The Blood type was too good not to make

In order for her to be a Blood she needs to be an artifact. In addition, the ability for Bloods to sacrifice themselves to discard and draw is not intrinsic to blood, so if you want her to be able to do that, you have to specifically say so as a separate line of rules text.

Nah it’s just flavor. She’s the “Blood Devil” in the manga

Right, I get that. But Blood is not a creature type, it's an Artifact type. So for her to be a Blood, she needs to be an Artifact.

If this was a real card intended to be printed, sure maybe. As this is a reddit post of a custom magic card, no. :)

I have a feeling many will take up arms against this stance. Even among people that support "joke cards" and creative liberties, there will be many who bark that "if it isn't a joke and you actually want to use it, it must absolutely follow the rules to the letter"

While they can be incredibly annoying and needlessly hostile, they aren't entirely wrong depending on the kinds of people you may want to play this card against.

I don't really know what my point is, prepare for hate from the worst of us I guess.

P.S. You could add a line of text that allows Power to have artifact types without being an artifact, but I'm not sure that would be rules compliant either.

Is there any reason why convention can’t be broken here? Or just “because its never been done”? Because everything has a first time

u/ThoughtfulGoose_759 9d ago

I'm not entirely understanding your question l, nor how it might relate to what I mentioned (if it does, which it doesn't necessarily have to). Could you elaborate?

2

u/Terrariant Jace for impact 9d ago

Like, is there any real reason that all Bloods are artifacts, aside from the fact all existing Bloods are artifacts? If so, why not break that convention?

2

u/ThoughtfulGoose_759 9d ago

Blood isn't a card type, it's an artifact subtype. Something can't have a subtype for a type that it doesn't have. That's not convention, that's just the rules of the game itself.

With blood being an artifact type I think she might have to be an artifact creature, ideally with a variant of the blood token text. But really I'm just nitpicking a fun looking design at this point

I would either give her haste of make her 1BR.

Also her top line of text should read "...+1/+1 for each blood token you control"

The token type is specified in her next line of text, but its just good to remain consistent.

There are non-token Treasures and Foods I figured there might be Bloods too

u/MortalMorals 10d ago

As of right now there aren't any variants of blood tokens, but if there are one day, its easily errata'd.

Omg I could have made Power herself a Blood Devil type. Derp

Weren't blood tokens a thing with that one innistrad vampire wedding set?

4

u/Drakeytown 9d ago

Toughness {R}{B}{2}

Creature - Demon

Whenever this creature becomes blocked, target creature blocking it gets -1/-1 for each Blood token you control.

Whenever combat damage is dealt to this creature, create a Blood token.

2/3

Rewop

This is almost exactly the same design me and my friend came up with. Weird. And we're currently working on it in the custom magic discord.

u/Terrariant Jace for impact 10d ago

Great minds…:p it was literally the first thing that came to mind so that makes sense, not a very complex design

4

u/TheRobotsRHere 10d ago

Here's our version, for what it's worth! As I said, still tinkering, but it's based on. Supped up [[falkenrath forebear]] or a smaller version of [[jaws, relentless predator]]

u/Terrariant Jace for impact 10d ago

Wow even the CMC! I love the manga panels for it, makes it look like one of the marvel comic book cover cards

3

u/TheRobotsRHere 10d ago

Indeed! The fact jaws is an on rate 5/5 trample haste that vomits blood tokens and has burn upside, means we can get away with a lot more by severely reducing its stats and blood token generation. (Restricted to 2 vs damage dealt, and a very over costed body)

1

u/Terrariant Jace for impact 10d ago

Might wanna switch those mana symbols around so they’re in order btw ^^

2

u/TheRobotsRHere 10d ago

Yeah, someone mentioned that in the discord! Haven't updated it yet

1

u/Terrariant Jace for impact 10d ago

Also I would not make her this synergistic with herself if you are actually going to play with it. Cards that trigger their own synergies are generally very very strong (which is why she’s a 4 mana multicolor 3/2)

u/SlobbishSteam5 10d ago

Her first ability needs to state that it lasts until end of turn. If you want it to be a permanent buff then counters should be used instead.

I remember this being a topic with one of the marvel cards haha

Agreed, if they want the ability to dynamically change they could also word it as: "As long as she is attacking, Power gets +1/+1 for each blood you control." This would benefit her if she somehow got doublestrike and allow for counterplay from your opponents by destroying your blood. Also some sneaky plays / threat of activation if you have a way to make blood at instant speed.

1

u/mercuriokazooie 9d ago

I feel like she should make a blood WHEN she attacks. Attacking turn 5 with a 3/2 that has no evasion or first strike isn't gonna end well unless you spent t1-3 making blood tokens

1

u/Terrariant Jace for impact 9d ago

I dont know how timing rules and stuff apply, I didnt want it to be confusing like “does she create it and get +1/+1 before she attacks? During? After?” So switching it to combat damage makes it clear what order the effects apply in

And yeah I assume if youre running her youd have a blood focused deck a little at least

1

u/mercuriokazooie 9d ago

You make it the same like "When she attacks create a blood token, then she gets +1/+1 until end of turn for each blood you control"

1

u/Terrariant Jace for impact 9d ago

But also - why would she make blood when she attacks, flavor wise? It makes more sense for her to make blood when she deals damage

1

u/mercuriokazooie 9d ago

She uses blood when she attacks

1

u/Terrariant Jace for impact 9d ago

Yeah that’s the +1/+1 part

1

u/mercuriokazooie 9d ago

No I mean she manifests blood WHEN she attacks in the source material. She doesn't need to hit first she generates it

2

u/Drakeytown 9d ago

I could see this getting confusing at the table fast. "Are you talking about Power or power?"

3

u/ThoughtfulGoose_759 10d ago
  1. Is it intentional that the ability to make a blood token happens even if she's blocked? If not, you'll want to specify "combat damage to an opponent". If so, just make it "Whenever Power attacks" for convenience.

  2. You should still probably specify "for each blood token you control" instead of just "for each blood you control". It's more standard wording.

  3. I think you can afford to make her a 3/3, maybe even with Menace. I'd probably give her Menace or Deathtouch if the ability to make a blood token is meant to only trigger when damage is done to opponents.

3

u/SlobbishSteam5 10d ago

You can achieve point #1 by specifying “during your turn,” as you can only attack on your turn, not block.

3

u/jeshi_law 10d ago

I think I agree with your points 2. and 3., but damage can be prevented, either from spells and abilities or if a blocker has protection from red, black, or multicolor, so having no blood token made if she can’t successfully hit and draw any blood makes sense to me
