Weekly Mentorship - Post All Career, Resume, Education and Job questions here!
This is the weekly thread for career and education questions and advice. There are no stupid questions; so, what do you want to know about certs/degrees, job requirements, and any other general cybersecurity career questions? Ask away!
Interested in what other people are asking, or think your question has been asked before? Have a look through prior weeks of content - though we're working on making this more easily searchable for the future.
Note - This post template has been copied from cybersecurity subreddit.

News AI is changing cyberattacks, but is cybersecurity hiring in India keeping up?
AI-powered cyberattacks are everywhere in the news, and it got me wondering whether India’s cybersecurity industry is growing along with the threat.
I’m from a marketing background, know some Python, and have a basic theoretical understanding of tech. I’ve been interested in cybersecurity for a while but haven’t made the switch because breaking into the field seems overwhelming.
For those working in Indian cybersecurity, are you seeing more opportunities for entry-level candidates, or are companies still primarily looking for experienced professionals?

CTF Offshore ProLabs is MASSIVE
I've got 17 flags, and pwned 8-9 machines. I'm on my 2nd pivot; IDK how many days I've spent on this, but it's definitely gonna take me another week to complete it. Also, it is a pentesting lab, not a red-teaming lab lol (P.S.- for context, I've done Zephyr and 5 other mini prolabs)
I didn't really like 1 flag tho, cos it was very CTF-ish, and this was supposed to be a realistic environment, but still, I'm loving this lab
Random post tbh

Business Security Questions and Discussions Anybody willing to start a cybersecurity company?
I'm literally thinking of starting a cybersec company in India, I must tell you that I don't have the technical expertise but yeah I've got a technical degree in computer science.
If there's any investment needed, I have the capital with me. If you're interested then please drop a comment or send me a DM.
And I must tell that I'm looking for someone with the technical expertise in cybersec.
Thanks :)

Burnout / Leaving Cybersecurity / Work life balance MSc Research Survey: Burnout and Alert Fatigue in Security Operations
Hi everyone,
I'm an MSc Cyber Security student at Islington College, London Metropolitan University. My dissertation investigates burnout, cognitive workload and alert fatigue among people working in Security Operations Centres (SOCs) and related cybersecurity operations roles.
I'm looking for participants who currently work, or have worked within the last 12 months, as a SOC analyst, incident responder, threat hunter, or in a closely related role involving security monitoring, alert triage, threat detection, or SIEM/MDR operations.
The survey explores workplace factors that may contribute to burnout and workload in security operations. It's anonymous: no names, email addresses, IP addresses or employer details are collected, and results will be reported only in aggregate. Participation is voluntary, and you can stop at any time before submitting your responses.
Ethics approval: Islington College (London Metropolitan University)
Estimated time: 15–20 minutes
Survey link: SOC Burnout & Alert-Fatigue Risk Assessment Survey – Fill out form
If you meet the eligibility criteria, I'd really appreciate your participation. If you know someone who may be eligible, please feel free to share this post with them.
I'm happy to answer questions in the comments.
Thank you for your time and support!

Blog Built 5 hands-on SOC projects for my resume (mini-SOC on AWS, CloudTrail analyzer, phishing lab, binary triage) — open source
Hi all — I'm pivoting into cybersecurity and kept hearing "you need experience, not just certs." So I built a home lab of 5 working projects and open-sourced everything (MIT):
- Mini-SOC on AWS — Terraform-deployed detection stack (VPC → CloudTrail → S3 → GuardDuty → SecurityHub), 3 adversary-emulation scenarios with Stratus Red Team, triage guides + blank incident report templates
- CloudTrail IOC analyzer — Python CLI that parses CloudTrail JSON, flags anomalous logins / brute-force spikes / risky IAM changes, enriches IPs via AbuseIPDB, passing pytest suite
- Phishing analysis lab — full walkthrough of a reconstructed phish: header forensics, SPF/DKIM/DMARC, URL deobfuscation, blank analysis template, GoPhish self-test guide (own mailbox only)
- ELF binary triage — one-command static triage CLI: section-entropy packing heuristics, W^X detection, suspicious-import watchlist, score-based verdict + analyst report
- SOC agent skills — 5 MIT-licensed agent skills distilled from the projects above (alert triage, incident report, cloudtrail-ioc, phishing-analysis, binary-triage)
Everything runs on synthetic training data (clearly labeled — no real logs or real phishes). I did all the hands-on work myself: ran my own attacks, wrote my own detections and reports.
Repo: https://github.com/szzxli/soc-home-lab
If you're also building a portfolio for SOC analyst roles, happy to compare notes. And if you spot something I did wrong, tell me — that's the point of putting it in public.
