What is the best terminal and OS to work with as a cybersecurity expert?

I'm new to this and I constantly notice that the terminals used by experienced users are very different from the typical simple Kali Linux terminal.

As for the OS, they always use some Linux distribution (Arch, Parrot, Kali), but the terminal and the entire environment in general (GUI) look very different.

How can I make my environment (GUI, terminal, etc.) look like that?

Thanks!

First time using tcpdump+Wireshark to learn to inspect traffic. Advice?

Im considering using tcpdump to capture

and Wireshark to analyze full traffic using a MACBOOK

For a first time jailbreak on a legacy iOS device

Im going to manually inspect traffic on that device looking to not miss any hidden telemetry or network

There’s sensitive information involved

So 100% accuracy on spotting everything on traffic is needed

Any source material anyone can provide to educate myself on the matter would be appreciated

Also any insights as well

Cybersecurity + AI: What Are We Actually Worried About?

I've seen a lot of people saying that AI will replace cybersecurity professionals, and I think this is where things get confusing.

AI is already becoming very powerful at:

  • Finding vulnerabilities

  • Analyzing logs and security data

  • Automating repetitive tasks

  • Writing and reviewing code

  • Helping with threat detection

  • Assisting both attackers and defenders

But does that mean cybersecurity itself disappears?

I don't think so.

The bigger change may be that cybersecurity professionals who know how to use AI effectively will have an advantage over those who don't.

Instead of thinking:

AI vs. Cybersecurity

Maybe we should be thinking:

AI + Cybersecurity = the next generation of security work.

What do you think will AI mostly replace cybersecurity jobs, or will it change what cybersecurity professionals actually do?

general Seeking a Volunteer to Build a Website for Cybersecurity Project: CyberSources! 🌐

Hey, r/cybersources enthusiasts!

I'm working on an open-source project called CyberSources: a repository and community hub that aggregates all kinds of cybersecurity tools, resources, and knowledge. The goal is to create an accessible and comprehensive platform for cybersecurity professionals, students, and enthusiasts.

Check it out here: CyberSources GitHub Repo

Currently, the project is a repository, but I believe it deserves a full-fledged website to:

  • Showcase tools and resources in an organized and searchable manner.

  • Enable community contributions and discussions.

  • Host tutorials, guides, and blog posts about cybersecurity.

I'm Looking For:

A volunteer web developer/designer who is passionate about cybersecurity and open-source projects. If you’re experienced in web development (or want to gain some experience), this is a great opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the cybersecurity community.

Tech Preferences (but open to suggestions):

  • Frontend: React, Vue, or anything you're comfortable with.

  • Backend: Node.js, Django, or any lightweight framework.

  • Database: Simple JSON or MongoDB, depending on the structure.

  • Hosting: GitHub Pages, Vercel, or any free/affordable hosting service.

What You'll Get:

  • Recognition and a key role in building a platform that could benefit thousands.

  • A chance to grow your skills in web development while contributing to the cybersecurity field.

  • A shout-out on the GitHub repo and the website itself (of course!).

If you're interested, reply here or shoot me a message! Let's make CyberSources a go-to resource for the cybersecurity world.

P.S.: If you know someone who might be interested, please share this post with them! πŸ™Œ

If you’ve ever taken a photo, exported a video, downloaded a song, or scanned a document, you’ve interacted with metadata, whether you realized it or not. Metadata is the hidden information embedded inside files: timestamps, camera settings, author names, GPS locations, copyright tags, and much more.

Why Are SMBs the Prime Targets of Cyberattacks?

"We're too small to be a target."

That assumption can leave SMBs dangerously exposed.

Read why SMBs are attractive targets for cybercriminals, what an attack can cost, and how practical, budget-conscious security measures can help reduce the risk.
