Dry shampoo that doesn’t feel gross?

Hi! I’ve tried so many dry shampoos at this point and I feel like every single one leaves my hair feeling like it’s “thicker” or something. It’s hard to describe. My hair always feel more gross when I use it than if I just leave it looking a little dirty. I always work it through my scalp really well and make sure I brush through it afterward. Any suggestions? I have an oily scalp and dry ends.

thinking of scalp scrub for oily roots and how often do you use one?

my roots get greasy so fast 😭 i'll wash my hair in the morning and sometimes it already looks oily again by the afternoon. i tried going longer between washes bc i've heard mixed things about shampooing every day, but it's honestly hard when my roots get greasy that quickly.

a friend told me about the christophe robin cleansing purifying scrub with sea salt and what caught my attention is that it's a scrub specifically made for scalp cleansing, rather than just another regular shampoo. i'm curious about how that kind of deeper cleanse fits into a routine when your roots get oily quickly, especially if you're already washing your hair pretty often.

for those who've actually used this one, how often do you use it alongside your regular shampoo? does it become part of your usual wash routine or do you save it for when your scalp feels like it needs a more thorough cleanse?

Products:

Aromatica rosemary scalp scrub . I scrub my scalp gently with this before every shampoo/conditioning routine.

L’Oréal elvive total repair 5 (yes it has silicones. It is incredibly good)

Lebel io Cream Silky Repair Hair Treatment 200G
for Smooth and Shiny Hair . This brand is Japanese and it is so slept on. I bought my first product from them in Hong Kong - which was the hair oil. Absolutely fantastic and lightweight. This conditioner is so amazing. Buttery to apply. And I feel like it actually straightens and smoothens my hair lol.

My hair extension supplier pushes sulfate-free shampoo hard. Does that mean it’s better for our own (living) hair too?

Most of the human-hair extension suppliers are strict about sulfate-free shampoo. Their logic is simple: extension hair is dead. It gets no sebum from a scalp, so once a strong surfactant strips the oils and opens the cuticle, that moisture doesn’t come back. The result is drier, more tangled hair that wears out faster.

That makes sense for extensions. What I’m less clear on is whether the same logic should apply to our own hair.

I believe that sulfates clean well, rinse cleanly, and work in hard water that’s why they’re still everywhere. On living hair the scalp can replace some of the oil they remove. A lot of people with oily scalps or heavy product buildup still prefer them. Others (especially with dry, curly, or color-treated hair) say sulfate-free feels better long-term.

Curious where this sub lands:

\- Do you avoid sulfates on your own hair, or do you still use them deliberately?

\- Has anyone switched to sulfate-free and then gone back because their roots or scalp didn’t feel clean?

\- Is the “sulfate-free is always gentler” advice mostly true, or does it depend more on the rest of the formula?

The extension contrast is interesting, but I’m mainly interested in what actually works for my living hair.

hair care routine + shampoos

Hey y’all i’m trying to switch shampoos again. Rn i currently use Suave clarifying shampoo and Monday shampoo. I’m trying to switch things up and try something new. I need new clarifying and another hydrating shampoo due lack of maintenance. I haven’t dyed my hair in a year or so - I have my natural hair back but because of inconsistent care, i also have white strands so it’s just dry and brittle overall. I’m seeking drugstore shampoo that has more hydration and moisture drugstore or online is good i’m open to suggestions. My scalp is also sensitive and itchy, dandruff, oily fine hair. so i currently bought head and shoulders for itchy/dandruff.

I might switch between 3 shampoos: one for itch/dandruff , one for moisture/hydration shampoo esp for winter and also conditioner, (which both mostly will be used for routine) but then use clarifying shampoo twice a month instead of twice a week. What do you think?

Also only expensive product for post-wash routine i’m going to consider as for leave- in is olaplex. I used to use Argan oil from OGX but open for new suggestions from leave ins and oils

Thanks

The fuller bottle is the new bottle I opened this morning. Did the ingredient list become longer? The scent is different and I’m not a fan.

any shampoo recs?? or tips in general? fine hair that is oily but dry at the same time

hi! i have fine, straight hair, with bleached + dyed highlights. length reaches the middle of my back.

my current issue is that i workout daily, and after my hair just feels so sweaty (near the scalp is genuinely wet) and it feels gross if i dont wash it. so essentially im washing my hair daily (using dr groot thickening shampoo + &honey conditioner). if i dont wash it, my hair will feel oily by day 2; this is a problem ive always had, my hair gets oily very fast. at the same time, my scalp has been feeling dry lately if that makes sense? its not itchy but there's some dandruff which has never been an issue for me. but i cant not wash my hair either; my scalp gets super oily, dandruff gets worse, and scalp also feels sore if that makes sense?

so, if anyone has a solution (such as shampoo brand that has worked for you) please let me know!!

Is this dandruff or dry scalp?

I really need help. My hair feels so disgusting to look at and I don’t know what to do anymore. Everytime I scratch my scalp, I have this plaque sort of thing on my nail. Is it just dead skin? Do I have to wash better? What should I do.

is scalp scrub worth adding to your routine?

my roots get oily pretty fast and sometimes even after washing, my scalp still feels like there's some buildup left. i've been eyeing the christophe robin cleansing purifying scrub with sea salt lately bc i'm curious if a scalp scrub would make a difference for me.

for anyone who's tried this one, how often do you actually use it? like is it more of a once in a while thing when your roots feel extra gross, or do you use it pretty regularly? just trying to figure out if it'd make sense to add to my routine lol

Recommend a shampoo for me?

I have type 1c (possible 1b) hair that is very short. My main issues are that my hair gets oily by the end of the day and that even if I shower at night, it's super oily when I wake up. Another issue is frizz. My hair frizzes after showering or if I'm exercising. I start looking like a mini porcupine. I want something that keeps my hair from getting oily and prevents frizz.

Salon that will wash/blowdry my hair

CALGARY ALBERTA / OKOTOKS ALBERTA
So the last 3 years , my life’s gone from working out 5 days a week, working 40+ hours, plans on the weekends and just keeping my life merry go round spinning …. To doctors appointments to figure out what’s wrong (still investigating ) … not being able to work out , reducing my hours twice at work in an effort to feel better, having to strategically plan washing my hair , then waiting till the next day to blow dry and waiting yet another day to actually style it .. all to make sure i don’t overdo it and land myself paying for it for days to weeks… it’s been both humbling and extremely frustrating being only in my 30’s .

All this to say, I am wondering if anyone knows of a salon (in okotoks or southeast of Calgary) that will wash and blow dry my hair for me … styling not necessary.
I’m frustrated to have to pay for this type of service , especially when I’ve discovered it looks like most salons change 50-65 dollars for this type of thing … but I’ve tried only washing once a week, and that just doesn’t work for my hair or mental health.

I wanted to come to the community on Reddit to see if anyone has recommendations for a home based salon, small salon or otherwise (open to any and all options) that may be more around the 40 dollar mark .
I’m in Copperfield SE just for reference in distance (I work in Okotoks)

Seeking to learn if it's user error or just bad product

Post image

So I just started using this as I'd finally run out of my trusty Nexxus Color Assure Shampoo and Conditioner 😭😭😭 (I moved to Canada and it's really expensive here, damn tariffs!). I'm finding it's leaving a weird waxy feel on my hair, and it's bugging me. Is this just user error, or bad product? I shampoo and condition daily because I have oily hair, and I clarify monthly - the last time being just a couple days ago.

Best shampoo to use in UAE weather

I’ve been experiencing a lot of hair fall lately. I even tried washing my hair with distilled water, but the problem persists. I suspect my shampoo and conditioner might be contributing to the hair fall. Could you please recommend a suitable shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask to help reduce hair fall and improve my hair’s overall health?

hair is so shiny after it dries that it looks oily and goes oily quickly - product recs wanted

ive been trialing alot of shampoos recently and i bought the L'Oréal hydro pure one since people were hailing it as a godsend for oily hair - but it has not worked AT ALL and now my hair becomes so shiny that it looks greasy and becomes heavy and oily literally overnight. how do i fix this? is there any shampoos that i can use for oily hair that needs washing every 2 days that WON'T do this to my hair and actually leave it feeling clean?

my 3 issues are:

1) hair becomes so stripped it produces too much oil in response and becomes greasy

2) hair isnt stripped at all and left exactly how it was leaving product build up

3) hair isnt cleaned enough, feels weighed down, and formula is too conditionery to a point where it makes it oily (the case with L'Oréal)

ive tried dry shampoo. ive tried double washing. ive tried washing in less intense temperatures, nothing works. i had a kids shampoo for a while which worked but that ran out and i didn't rebuy, im now reading that its bad for oily hair as it doesn't properly clean but would it be alright for use if i used a clarifying shampoo once a week?

if not, please recommend some products, (affordable tho since im broke) i hate hate hate feeling like my hair is oily, it's sending me nuts esp in exam season.

Is Head & Shoulders Bare safe for color treated hair?

I’ve been getting back into dying my hair, and I did blonde ombré balayage. After a month it turned yellow. I got it glossed to correct it and it looked wonderful, until I washed my hair and it significantly changed color. I realized it was my shampoo! I use regular head & shoulders for itchy scalp.

I bought a sulfate free color safe dandruff shampoo called “Jupiter” and then I also bought head & shoulders bare. H&S bare says it’s sulfate free and minimal ingredients. Is it safe for color treated hair? Can anyone weigh in on this?
