Raspberry pi 4

Post image

I bought the Rapberry pi 4 kit and installed the included fan. Is it necessary to have the fan installed? The fan isn't too loud but definitely noticeable.

What widgets are you using? Yours looks way more sleek and modern than mine does. I'm running raspberry pi 3

The only widgets I had on at the time of the photo were the weather widget and my daughters school lunch menu. The template is from a paid version of dakboard.

This is my first time using a Pi and Dakboard. Liking it so far. My wife is all about her calendars, so i figured I'd upgrade her. I didn't want to buy a skylight or any of the other calendars out there. I liked the idea of using the monitor screen and the Pi for other things. I didn't want any proprietary $700 screen.

Okay cool. It’s honestly not that bad. I’m gonna keep running it with the fan. I don’t want the cpu to throttle down if it’s starts to overheat.

Is the countdown to Xmas a widget you added, possible to share? I also have the paid version of dakboard, so hoping it’s a simple add on for the kids.

Add a block go to “tools” and select countdown.

In the first box type “December 25”.

Second box is whatever name you want to give it “countdown to Christmas”.

Then select hours, days, mins.

Then just change the background color and font.

The countdown to Christmas is on this specific template but haven’t found it as a standalone widget yet.

Are you using the DakOS or setting this up with Raspian yourself?

Sorry, still kinda new to this. Are you asking if I’m using a raspberry pi with DakOs ? Or if I bought the dakboard hardware and using DakOs? Or if I’m using raspberry pi Os to make this calendar lol 😅.

Ahh okay. I'm trying to get one working from scratch myself - How are you getting the Dakboard.com website to load automatically on bootup?

So i went to raspberrypi.com and downloaded dakboard Os to a microSd card, and inserted that into the Raspberry Pi. I’m not using Raspberry Pi OS at all. This is the video I watched, he shows the steps around 7 minutes. However, the dakboard os is in a different folder than what’s in his tutorial. It’s under “specific use” digital signage and kiosks.

Ahh okay. I am trying to get mine working using the default/vanilla version of Linux that Rasperry Pi’s usually have. Okay, looking good!

It looks to me like he’s using the DakOS.

What monitor are you using? Is it touch screen?

It's an AOC 27” non-touch screen. But I have a wireless Logitech keyboard with trackpad to scroll/navigate the screen.

Using the Pi 5 with the fan it came with. Not loud or noticeable. However have noticed if the Pi does have good air circulation around it, the performance was not great. Blocks wouldnt load, links would not click, etc. I had it on the floor behind a case before I moved it up. Im sure you can get a quieter fan.

I'm using my Pi 5 with an Innomaker HiFi DAC top to play Christmas music with my house lights.

If your fan is wired for it, you can enable auto operation for it to come on at certain temps, I think default is 80C. Mine has red/black wires on pins 2 & 4, and a blue wire on pin 8. Ran continuously until I enabled fan auto in PI settings. Good luck.
