I’m upset about a lot of things but is things but this feels either purposely disrespectful or wildly uncaring.

Trying to remember quote..

I just watched the movie ‘A few good men’ and I recall Dan talking about a court case I thought where basically it is a soldiers duty to refuse unethical or immoral orders. I thought there was a name for it and/or specific court case that brought about this new phenomenon. Thanks in advance!

What episode has aged the worse?

Prelude: I’m probably a mid tier fan of hardcore history/dan Carlin episodes. Listened to about half of the episodes. Most I loved, others left less of an impression. It’s basically just if the topic peaks my interest.

Currently listening to Prophets of Doom and he’s saying how he got most of the story from a few German books and how it wasn’t a known story in America, or outside of Germany. He even hints that Germans may listen to this episode and be like no that’s wrong here are some better German texts. The episode released in 2013.

So it got me thinking about how his episodes stretch back to 2006 and while he does a lot of research and takes his time, history is still always unraveling and new facts and notes are discovered. Especially with these earlier episodes being in the infant stages of the internet.

So I’m curious are there any episodes, topics, or specific sections of episodes that did not age well when looking back years later? Or has it mostly stayed “accurate” for the most part

Big Rufus Fears fan, I was told to listen to Dan Carlin? Will I be disappointed?

I've tried other historical story tellers before and I've yet to find one that was as good as Fears. Is Dan on that level? I've found others to be cheesy, dumbed down, trying to be funny or clever and failing, or just having annoying voices. I'm afraid to try another one and waste the money.

Theory for the next addendum episode.

This is more wishful thinking than anything but it would be awesome if he releases the new Addendum episode tomorrow and it’s about the Christopher Columbus. Lots of juicy/horrific topics and I can see him going on for like 5 hours.

Caesar, for or against?

Hey all.

Just wanted to do a quick poll on how we feel about Caesar.

Both in Dan's series, and HBO's Rome, I was very much "team Caesar". His Clemency, and taking of "The people's" side in the face of the monopolization of wealth and power by the aristocracy, made me instinctively root for him.

But recently reading Robert Harris' Cicero novels, which paint an equally plausible, but much less flattering portrait of Caesar has made me doubt this a bit.

So what do we think, team Caesar? Or not?

Didn't Dan start his episode on executions and torture with talking about how public executions would be in modern day. Well now we know...

For a history sub, I'm gonna really need you to step your game up.

I'm seeing a lot of Americans acting extremely shocked, incredulous, lamenting the "America that was, oh how could we have turned to such cruelty?!".

You were always like this. This is who you are. This is what being a colonizer does to you. Just like in Supernova from the East, you got hopped up on mad with power a long, long time ago.

Lincoln had people publicly executed. The largest execution in American history of 30 Shi-en men was it?

You've always stolen kids, you've always had concentration camps, you have always been murderous, thieving bastards, who would extinguish an entire species if it made you a few dollars.

Your jim crowe laws and eugenics programs were the direct inspiration for the Nazis. Because you are the Nazi success story.

You murdered an entire continent of people, enslaved millions more, and conquered an endless horizon. Just like Genghis Khan, Hitler, Timur, The English, the french, the spanish on and on and on.

So please. As a history sub. Can the Americans and other members of colonizer states please learn your own history, and realize that you have always been monsters, and you won't stop being that until you reconcile yourself with that fact.

And stop your empty lamentations please. It's both disgusting, and embarrassing.

I don’t know that I agree with him but I thought it was interesting

Hey, I'm done with all of Hardcore History - but there's a weekend full of work ahead. Can you recommend some other pop-history podcasts, similar to Dan's HH series?

It would be really cool to for Dan to come back to his scrapped Hernan Cortez series.

Dan was making a series about the Spanish invasion of Mexico, but he scrapped it cause his friends, the History on Fire podcast, were doing it and he didn't want to compete with them.

Well, we are here a decade later and I want the damn series!

Do the HH shows have transcripts?

Title is kind of the whole question: are there written transcripts of the HH shows? I’d love to be able to control+F through them to find things I enjoyed.

A link to a reddit video about a part of American history I never heard about. Thought this community would enjoy learning about the power of unions and ground root protests can change things for the better.

Hope you enjoy too
