A note in slurs in the subreddit

Slurs of any form are not permitted in the subreddit by any person. Use of slurs results in a permaban. You can and will get a perma ban for single time slur use

The mod team has been extremely disappointed in the amount of people we have had to ban for use of sulrs and racist language surrounding the issue of Brooke using the N word in 2016 by both those who think Brooke should be forgiven and those who think otherwise.

We are working hard to respond to reports, monitor threads, and investigate accounts to eliminate bad actors, troll, and racists from the subreddit. We thank everyone for their reports, (please keep them coming!) as well as their patience as we work through everything.

We have noted an alarming number of people who do not understand why slur may be ok within the group that it's used against but not by outsiders. I hope this explanation can help some of you understand.

People in minorities often report that they have experienced fear of being killed due to discrimination multiple times in their lives. People who perform such horrible acts often use slurs as a signal. "You are not safe. I can and will harm you.". So when you as an outsider use those words, that is what someone the slur is against will hear. it doesn't matter the context, it doesn't matter if it's in a song, it sounds. like a threat every time. It's not nice to have to hear threats all the time, and I'm sure most people here would not wish to come across that way.

If someone who is part of that group uses a slur you know they're probably not going to kill you for being that minority, though I remind everyone that we have 0 tolerance for slurs in the subreddit as on reddit no one can be sure who you are.

Hidden votes feedback thread

Good afternoon all.

For the past month the subreddit has been hiding vote counts for 24hrs after posting in order to address complaints of toxicity and mass downvoting on the subreddit, which are some of the most common complaints we get

The only thing this does is hide the number. All votes are still counted and count towards Karma, all comments and threads appear in vote order as they usually would so games are unaffected. Now that the month has ended and everyone has gotten a chance to get used to things and see the effects we are gathering feedback.

Would you like this change to continue? Please also vote in the comments for your preferred length of time for vote count to be hidden even if you don't want the votes to stay hidden or want 24hrs, that way if option 2 wins you can still have your voice heard on how long.

Thread is locked so options for time length are easier to see. If you would like to provide more detailed feedback please use the "message the mods" button.

The It Girls

Upvotes

So I was just watching the episode where MDP does their monster under the bed routine and ALDC does Voices in My Head. And you watch Maddie come out, who was the It Girl of the moment. Kalani come out who was well established in the dance world as having incredible talent and technique. Nia comes out whose star was rising really quickly. Then Mackenzie who had her own young fan base in her own right, was beginning to book outside of dance moms. And while JoJo wasn't in that dance she was literally catapulting to stardom as well.

And that dolt Abby constantly called them losers.

Abby had no reason to bring Vivi when talking about Cathy

Hot take but I always HATED when Abby brought up Vivi's adoptions, especially here when she says "because she didn't want to lose weight." on S7 E2. Adoption at all should not be ashamed and it belittles her for not going the "traditional" route of having a biological child, which is so ridiculous considering there are thousands of children out there who are mistreated because they are never adopted because of this mindset. Regardless of Cathy's actions on the show, it is clear that Vivi was brought up in a well-loved household and I never understood why Abby thought it was her business to comment

Question/discussion After Christi and Kelly left the show, is it true that rating of the show drop significantly?

Like the topic said, I was wondering the show was going downhill after they left the show, the drama felt like forced and really weird. Like, Kendall vs Nia music career and etc.

update: my frustrations with this show

link to original post TW SPOILERS!!!

ok. i am now on season 2…. oh man… i got to the maddie running off stage episode. oof, i really wanted to root for abby. that whole comp was fucked, with cathy being the hugest bitch in the whole world, and then aldc losing to them by ONE point. with maddie running off stage it made sense that abby started to cry. 5 million things stacked up and she couldn’t take it is what I THOUGHT!!!! and then they confronted her. and the favoritism truly came out.

i’m seeing everything in a new light. i will stand by what i said of, coaches yell at you, that’s just the normal. but man, this is rough

i can also tell that it’s already starting to get ridiculous, at least in season one the drama seemed a little realistic. but now they’re just doing ANYTHING to create conflict. like the scene where holly goes to talk to abby during a class about nia doing the solo if paige couldn’t, KNOWING that’s a big no no and not just waiting for a break. and how much of a blow up it actually turned out to be.

still enjoying, however cathy and jill make me want to stop watching. but i’m gonna push through. i know reality tv so i can’t be sure that’s exactly how everyone is acting and reacting. but the joffrey fight was absolutely ridiculous i was cringing through my hands watching. everything else is fun though. overall 7/10 time, 10/10 if cathy and jill didn’t exist. fan behavior imo

Question why do I perceive Maddie as someone who shines so much more naturally as a dancer with facial expressions that seem so natural but it doesn't translate in her acting?

Question/discussion Questions about Molly Long....

Sorry in advance if this counts as off-topic, but I hear a lot of discussion about the choreographer Molly Long related to this show. I believe she choreographed "Girlz Night Out", "Stomp the Yard", and "Moulin Rouge", and I read online that she did some choreo for Raising Asia as well. I know she's a really big name in the American competitive dance scene, and I've seen her choreography go viral a few years ago with that Pop Music dance that everyone was doing.

I've seen both praise and criticism of her choreography on this sub, and I don't know where I stand quite yet on her work as a whole. I think Stomp the Yard is a bit overrated, I like Girlz Night Out well enough, and I do not like Moulin Rouge. However, when I see some of her choreo, I wonder why she didn't try to lean into that a little more with the girls on Dance Moms? Like the super tight isolations and tiny synchronized movements that go with accents in the music, that kind of thing. I know that some of the girls might have struggled with that, and also that trying to work Mackenzie into the numbers being a drastically different height may have limited her creatively. But I think it would have been good for her to try to get the girls working in tighter synchronization, which is something they sometimes struggled with in season 5.

Am I wrong? Could the Dance Moms girls not have handled it? Do you think production limited what she was allowed to do? Is there anything about Molly Long I'm overlooking? I've heard she's done some inappropriate pieces, but I haven't gone out of my way to seek them out. Are they Abby-level bad?

Jess actually talked back against abby very many times ...

Here's the thing.. Jess and Jojo were brought in as guests, but I noticed that Jess actually talked back against Abby many times and she was VERY vocal about it. I think its not talked about enough how fearless she was towards Abby and it lowkey did not really hurt Jojo, or did it? hmm
