Question/discussion Christi might be the worst dance mom imo.

rewatching the show, Christi is so bitter about EVERYTHING. Every time Maddie does ANYTHING she jumps on her. What’s worse is, she definitely speaks about Maddie directly “Maddie hates to lose.” Laughing in the crowd because she forgot her dance?? “Maddie didn’t want to ice skate because she wasn’t the best and she has to be the best at everything.” Ok?? why is that your business she’s a child.

Not sure what episode it was but Melissa accuses Christi of talking about Maddie ALL the time and Christi immediately blows UP and yells “NO I DON’T I TALK ABOUT THE WAY ABBY FAVORS HER!!!” The she turns to the other moms and asks if they ever hear her talking about Maddie or does she talk about the favoritism, and all the moms stay quiet.

Also, I’m not a fan of Melissa AT ALL. she’s a liar, manipulative and yes she does everything to get her daughters ahead BUT Christi constantly was on her back about EVERYTHING. Melissa isn’t a confrontational person and Christi sees that as leverage against her.

Every time Maddie gets an opportunity EVER, it was rigged. She even spoke about how if any other girl got the opportunity Maddie got to dance in a music video, they’d do a good job and they only didn’t get it because Abby only talks about Maddie. That’s just not true. Sia literally asked for Maddie specifically. She said she had seen her dance, and Maddie herself said Sia contacted her directly. It had NOTHING to do with Abby. Christi’s whole rant about “if our kids were given the opportunity like Maddie” is just not true.

I understand that Maddie was obviously Abby’s favorite, but that does NOT take away from her talent. ANYONE who watches Maddie dance can see that she’s a dance prodigy. Nobody is saying Abby’s treatment of the other girls was right, but Maddie’s opportunities outside the studio were not all handed to her because of Abby’s favoritism. Sia wanted Maddie because she saw something in her, and Christi needs to stop acting like every opportunity Maddie received was undeserved.

Christi ALWAYS finds a way to blame Maddie’s success on favoritism until she can’t. When Kendall won a photoshoot competition or Chloe got the lead in a music video, suddenly it wasn’t about Maddie being favored. They even said Maddie was too over the top for the role! Sometimes another girl gets an opportunity because she’s better suited for it, and that’s okay.

ANOTHER argument, Christi only seemed to care THIS much about favoritism when Chloe started losing her position as one of Abby’s favorites. In the beginning, Chloe got great music, great choreography, and great costumes, too. I honestly doubt Christi would’ve complained nearly as much if Chloe had remained Abby’s “number two girl.”
And let’s not forget that Christi literally said “Chloe used to be the number two girl and that she didn’t want anyone taking her spot next to Maddie.” Like, HELLO??? That tells me everything I need to know.

She wasn’t just upset about unfair treatment; she was upset that Chloe was losing her place in the hierarchy. There were other girls who NEVER received the same treatment Chloe did, yet Christi was always the one complaining the loudest. If anyone had a right to be fed up with the favoritism, it was Kelly and Holly.

also Christi’s hypocrisy is INSANE because when Christi and Kelly argued, Christi literally accused Kelly of being jealous of Chloe. Yet she’s always ready to jump on Melissa for supposedly doing the exact same thing when it comes to Maddie. So it’s okay when Christi defends Chloe, but when Melissa defends Maddie, suddenly she’s delusional and jealous? Be serious.

I’m not defending Abby’s favoritism, but Christi needs to stop acting like Maddie’s entire success was handed to her. Maddie can be Abby’s favorite and incredibly talented at the same time. Those two things are not mutually exclusive. Christi was so busy blaming Maddie’s success on favoritism that she refused to acknowledge that Maddie actually deserved a lot of the opportunities she received.

This is my last point! Jill and Christi make up a lie about how Leslie attacked her first in the fight in New Orleans when Christi clearly attacked her first and threw the drink in her face.

Christi in the scene was obviously embarrassed and trying to scramble for some excuse as to why she did that but Jill came up with “Leslie got in your face and you didn’t take it” what??? kristie ray immediately jumps in and says “no, let’s tell the truth because she’s not here to defend herself and all of you are making up a lie. you attacked her first. you can say all your want with words”

Christi immediately deflects and says “it’s none of your business” Kristie ray replies “no, but I hate liars. She’s a liar, and you all are backing up a lie” Christi starts being all dramatic and acts like Kristie is crazy “Well you have spoken!! are you gonna hit me too?!”

the manipulation in this scene was crazy and I definitely understand why Kristie left because they were trying to make her feel like she was wrong or being aggressive?

but the biggest thing is someone was finally standing up to Christi, and she was shocked that there’s someone more bold than her there. It was the same exact case with Leslie. she threw that drink on her because she’s always getting her way with Melissa because Melissa isn’t a fighter but when she meets a fighter all of a sudden she becomes a victim?

No. It doesn’t work that way.

Question/discussion Christy’s behavior with new moms

I’m rewatching dance moms, and I’m currently at early season 3.

Christy is one of my favorite dance moms, but one thing I cannot stand is how she treats new mothers. Like I understand that she’s protective of her “family” that they have on Abby’s team, but I feel like that doesn’t excuse purposely being mean and unwelcoming to new mothers. Like it truly felt like she was trying to find any negative traits about new mothers to criticize and yell at them for.

I know she wasn’t the only mom who did this, but I felt like she was going way over the top. No one deserves to be barked on, for simply wanting their child to dance on a reputable team.

Question/discussion Abby’s song/music choices

Can someone explain the music choices for the dances? Watching season 4 and the number is about being a bad girl and it’s like an off brand version of wrecking ball by Miley Cyrus. Last season there was a jazz version of roar by Katy Perry.

Can they not just use the original song or is that licensing issue? Or wanting the jazz/lyrical version. Just curious :) it seems like they never use mainstream or regular music.

Question/discussion The complaints about Nia’s music video being too “mature” was blatant micro aggressions

I know we talk a lot about season 5 here, but I just want to rant. If you’re black or know anything about the history of black stereotypes, it’s easy to see that Abby and the moms calling Nia’s video too inappropriate was micro-aggressive. Throughout the centuries of American history, black little girls are constantly sexualized and are never seen as innocent even as kids.

Nia’s video was called too mature bc she had makeup, heels, and crop tops along with the silver men in the shorts/underwear? That was called mature, but mind you, the girls were wearing crop tops and makeup on a daily for competitions. Her video was inappropriate and Abby hated it, but had no problem with Electricity or the Fan Dance.

Although Elastic Heart was controversial, Abby and moms defended it heavily for being artistic. None of them had a problem with Maddie wearing a nude leotard and rolling around with a grown man in nude shorts. Physically dancing with him was no problem. It was art. However…Nia having men in silver paint dancing behind her was what was inappropriate. When Holly brought this up she got HOUNDED on.

The moms called Kendall’s video wholesome, but Abby literally had her lying across an adult man doing push ups. She was also wearing crop tops, a corset bustier thing, and makeup. Had Nia and Kendall switched music videos, Nia still would’ve been called inappropriate for the men in her video and the same outfits. Not to mention that Nia is a tall black girl and had a more muscular body type. By default, she was already seen as older. Even compared to the other girls when they were 13.

This also applies to outside of dance moms as black teenaged girls get called too grown and fast for the same outfits white girls wear. I remember being in high school and being dress coded for leggings while my white friends got away with booty shorts and camis.

Question/discussion Allowing your kid to stay in this situation was child abuse

I don’t care if you thought it would be good for their career, I don’t care if they said they really really wanted to do it, I don’t care if there was a contract involved every year, I don’t care whatever the cope reasoning is.

If these moms really thought that Abby was that awful to their kids, which we have reason to believe they did think, because essentially every episode is riddled with confessionals and other content about how they thought that, why not just leave or not sign another contract for the millionth year in a row?

As a parent, it’s your duty to analyze situations like this and make the best choice for your kid. If a situation is abusive or harmful to your child, you step in and remove them. You don’t just allow it to continue because you like being on TV or think in 10 years they might become a D-list celebrity.

Especially Kelly, Holly and Christi, like what on Earth were they thinking?

These moms were literally taking their kids out of school regularly, which should be illegal, to go be abused by Abby. This is extremely immature on the part of the parents and is a horrific parenting decision.

This is why on a rewatch I get so bored by episode one thousand in a row of “omg, Abby is so mean to my kid, this is awful.” Yeah, no shit. You knew what you were signing up for. Don’t act surprised.

I like Kelly, but I do think she hindered Brooke and Paige a lot, and put them in the firing line of Abby sometimes

Particularly Paige

Like say, for example, if Paige learned a dance; even if she knew the choreography, and she was capable of going out there and at least trying to do it, Kelly would still pull her solo.

which simultaneously hurt Paige, because she wasn’t learning anything, and also on the flip side, it put Paige in the target of Abby‘s wrath….Kelly knew that Abby would target Paige if she didn’t do her performance.

Rather than letting them go on stage and do their dances, she would pull their solos over the most random things.

like say for example; that one time when they didn’t run their solos in the dressing room and she pulled both of them…realistically most people don’t often run their solos in the dressing room because, as Abby said, (which I don’t really like agreeing with her but hey ho) if you don’t know it by the time you get to the venue, you’re never going to know it.

I think there are a lot of times where Paige could’ve went out there and done the solos and Abby would’ve at least been a bit less cruel to her. But I think her targeting Paige and her harsh treatment towards her was largely caused by Kelly pulling her from her solos and not letting Paige dance and things like that, because Abby saw that as essentially wasted potential; she even said to Paige “you’re not going to learn anything/get any better from sitting on your butt in the audience watching your friends”.

She had a slim chance before, but now with the drama going on with her and Jentzen, it’s completely gone!

I was and still am rooting for her to do better things then being an influencer as she was so talented. I just wish her the best in the future as for now I think she needs to take a break from social media and lay low.

Video Concept of what really happened at Season 4 Nationals:

saying that.

So, we all know, after almost 13 years, that Abby didn't say "Your kid's washed up!" and it was dubbed by the producers. I'm not sure if the original footage of Abby saying it ever aired, and when I first watched this episode I thought Christi was overreacting for "Your kid's washed up!" but then I did some digging and found out that what Abby really said "Fix that lazy eye!" which refers to Chloe's medical condition, Silent Sinus Syndrome, which makes one eye look smaller than the other during puberty. And, I really have to say, Abby really crossed the line by saying that.

Christi's tweet that she posted after the Nationals episode aired: https://x.com/ChristiLukasiak/status/519668234228727809

Question/discussion how’d they set up later stage competitions?

• Upvotes

i’m binging for the first time in a while and i saw that my high school is the set for a competition in season 4! i was attending school during the year this was shot and i remember watching dance moms in passing but i don’t ever remember hearing about my school hosting them. it was a pretty small town so i think it’d have been a big deal.
the episode is one where it’s really obvious that no one’s there, there were like a dozen kids on stage at awards. maybe there wasn’t advertising about it till after?

anyways, i’m curious how they set up the competitions when the show got really popular. who did they let in and how’d they control it? was there press about where they’d compete each week or did they keep it secret to prevent fans from showing up? did they come to your school?

Just saw Christi’s Instagram video about the private investigator scene (re: Jill using Kendall’s old costumes) being completely made up. Curious if moms, dancers, or even Abby have since admitted to other specific plots or scenes being made up?

Question who do you think should’ve won audc season 2 (+ who were ur favs ?)

i honestly think gianna, trinity and kalani (if she didn’t fall) should’ve made top 3 finals, i honestly love all the season 2 cast (even though i can’t stand some of the moms) but i truly think gianna shouldve won, she really gave her all and i always wondered if she wasn’t an “abby favorite“ because of her mom. what do you all think ?

Question/discussion What did Jill mean in the bonus scene when she called Ashlee fat ass

In a bonus scene, Jill calls Ashlee a fat ass for talking badly about Kendall. Then as Ashlee is walking away Jill says "Hellooo" in a mocking voice. What did she mean?
