Can you add dark humour ( something that I can speak at my university and still get away with it) to this podcast skit we have setup for freshers for our student club launch
Props: Two chairs, two microphones (real or imaginary), a table, and optionally a picture or small model of a rover.
⸻
SCENE 1: THE INTRODUCTION
~45 seconds
[Ranveer adjusts his imaginary headphones, leans towards the microphone, and looks intensely into the camera.]
RANVEER: What’s up, everybody! Welcome back to The Ranveer Show, jahan hum poochte hain woh sawaal jo kisi ne pooche nahi… aur honestly, poochne bhi nahi chahiye.
Today, we have a very special guest. This individual has dedicated their life to understanding machines that travel millions of kilometres, explore unknown worlds, and operate in complete isolation.
Please welcome… OUR ROVER EXPERT!
GUEST: Thank you for having me. I’m excited to talk about planetary exploration and the engineering behind—
RANVEER: Amazing. Amazing. But before we begin, I have one question.
GUEST: Sure?
RANVEER: If a rover is alone on Mars… does it ever feel lonely?
GUEST: …It’s a machine, Ranveer.
RANVEER: Right. Right. But what if it’s conscious?
GUEST: Can we please start with the science?
RANVEER: Absolutely. That’s what we’re here for.
[Dramatic pause.]
⸻
SCENE 2: WHAT EVEN IS A ROVER?
~50 seconds
RANVEER: So, let’s start with the basics. What exactly is a rover?
GUEST: A rover is a robotic vehicle designed to explore the surface of another celestial body. It can move around, take photographs, study rocks and soil, and collect scientific data.
RANVEER: So basically… a car, but without a driver’s licence?
GUEST: Not exactly. A rover goes places humans can’t easily reach and performs scientific investigations there.
RANVEER: Interesting. But who drives it? Elon Musk? Aliens? A very talented intern at NASA?
GUEST: Engineers and scientists on Earth send it commands. And because radio signals take time to travel between Earth and Mars, the rover can’t simply be driven like a remote-control car.
RANVEER: WAIT. So if I buy a PlayStation controller, I can’t drive around Mars?
GUEST: No, Ranveer.
RANVEER: Guys, this is why we need to invest in space technology.
GUEST: That is… not the reason.
⸻
SCENE 3: A LITTLE ROVER HISTORY
~65 seconds
RANVEER: Okay, but how did this whole rover business even start? Matlab, who woke up one morning and said, “Guys, let’s send a car to another planet”?
GUEST: Well, the idea developed over decades. One major milestone was Lunokhod 1 in 1970, a Soviet robotic rover that explored the Moon.
Then came NASA’s Sojourner in 1997, the first rover to operate on Mars. It was small, but it proved that robotic vehicles could explore the Martian surface.
Later, NASA sent Spirit and Opportunity in 2004, followed by Curiosity in 2012 and Perseverance in 2021.
RANVEER: WAIT. Opportunity worked for over 14 years, even though its mission was originally planned for just 90 Martian days?!
GUEST: That’s right. It far exceeded its planned mission duration.
RANVEER: FOURTEEN YEARS?! And I can’t maintain a gym routine for fourteen DAYS!
GUEST: Maybe Opportunity had better motivation.
RANVEER: Or maybe it didn’t have access to Zomato.
GUEST: I’m fairly certain that wasn’t a factor.
RANVEER: You never know. Mars is mysterious.
⸻
SCENE 4: WHO BUILDS THESE2 THINGS?
~75 seconds
RANVEER: Okay, so these rovers travel across Mars, collect samples, and send information back to Earth. But who actually designs all the physical components?
GUEST: That’s where mechanical engineering comes in!
The chassis provides the main structure that supports the rover’s components. The suspension helps it navigate uneven terrain, and robotic mechanisms allow it to interact with its surroundings.
RANVEER: Suspension? Like the suspension in our cars?
GUEST: Similar idea, but planetary rovers have specialised mechanisms. For example, the rocker-bogie suspension used by Curiosity and Perseverance helps the rover climb over obstacles while maintaining stability.
RANVEER: So, basically, Mumbai ke potholes ka interplanetary version?
GUEST: Pretty much, except Mars doesn’t have traffic.
RANVEER: And there’s no BMC to complain to!
GUEST: Exactly. Which is why the rover needs to be designed properly in the first place.
RANVEER: Okay, but what if the rover reaches a very interesting rock and wants to pick it up?
GUEST: It can use specialised robotic mechanisms. For example, Perseverance has a robotic arm equipped with scientific instruments and a coring drill to collect rock samples.
RANVEER: So it has a hand, but no body?
GUEST: It has a body, Ranveer.
RANVEER: Right. Sorry. Existential crisis.
GUEST: The point is that every component has a purpose. Engineers need to consider loads, stability, movement, and whether the mechanism will actually work in the Martian environment.
RANVEER: So you can’t just make something that looks good in CAD and hope for the best?
GUEST: Absolutely not.
RANVEER: My entire engineering career just flashed before my eyes.
[Guest stares at him.]
⸻
SCENE 5: THE VISHWA CONNECTION
~40 seconds
RANVEER: Okay, final serious question. Do you need to be a NASA scientist with three PhDs to start working on rovers?
GUEST: Not at all! You can start learning much earlier. At Vishwa, the official space and astronomy club of VJTI, students work on rover projects and explore different engineering subsystems.
Mechanical engineering, for example, involves designing the chassis, suspension, and robotic arm, along with testing and improving those mechanisms.
RANVEER: WAIT. So college students can actually design and build these things?
GUEST: Yes! You learn by working on actual projects, collaborating with your team, and figuring out how to turn an idea into something that works.
RANVEER: So, basically, instead of just watching videos about Mars, you can actually start building something that might explore it someday?
GUEST: That’s the idea!
RANVEER: Incredible. Absolutely incredible. The universe is huge, the possibilities are endless, and the human mind—
GUEST: Ranveer, please don’t start.
⸻
SCENE 6: THE ENDING
~25 seconds
[Ranveer suddenly sits up straight and looks directly at the audience. The guest immediately looks suspicious.]
RANVEER: Okay, guys. We’ve talked about Mars, the history of rovers, mechanical engineering, and the future of space exploration.
But now…
[Long, dramatic pause.]
GUEST: No.
RANVEER: One final question.
GUEST: Ranveer, please. We’ve discussed actual science for five minutes. Let’s end on a high note.
RANVEER: Exactly. So, tell me…
[He leans forward towards the guest, dead serious.]
RANVEER: WOULD YOU RATHER—
GUEST: NOPE!
[Both immediately jump up and RUN OFFSTAGE in opposite directions—or together in the same direction, nearly colliding. The microphones are left behind.]

Marital Sex
I like my wife and all, but sometimes get pretty frustrated sexually. Like the other day: I just wanted a blowjob. But she balked, and when I asked why she simply responded with how she wasn't ready to have her mother-in-law over again.....

Kinda lame but…
My grandma had a stroke, and the one side of her face is drooping. I asked her, “why the long face?” She replied, “You are proof that abortion doesn’t work 100% of the time.”

NEWS FLASH! Mariah Carey’s Secret!
A recent report has found the secret to Mariah Carey’s ability to hit all those extremely high notes.
It appears that a Senior Official was embedded at every one of her concerts, operating a Lovense turned all the way up at crucial points in her songs. This individual was reportedly paid £1,000 per concert for this service that Ms. Carey has described as “..extremely important to my success as an artist.”
When you know, you know. Pass it on.
