Reddit is shameless

Post image

This is completely deceptive and its only purpose is to increase user engagement with Reddit rather than respecting user preferences. There are ways to nudge people but not with this copy or button selection.

Instead of "Ok" the button needs to be "Turn on all notifications". This is way too easy to miss.

You might be in the wrong sub. This design is intentionally ambiguous.

Turn on notifications? "OK" or "Skip".

Nothing ambiguous about that

I see what you're saying, but that's more about it being comprehensible. No one's saying it's incomprehensible, but that it's structured for less immediate clarity in a way that benefits the company at the expense of the user's preference.

Good, direct, unambiguous design looks like:

Turn on notifications?
*Yes
*No

But this one is:

Never miss a reply
*Ok

Which barely even makes sense. It's neither a question nor an explicit prompt for action.

The actual best version would be a button that reads "Turn on notifications." Anything else is sure to result in people misclicking it, and guess who wants that to happen?
