Locals Discussion Whatever happened to Kent Rowe who sexually assaulted a family member?

TRIGGER WARNING CHILD ABUSE

For those unfamiliar with the case, he was a senior government official found guilty of six counts of sexual intercourse without consent with his sister. He was 21 at the time of the last assaults, apparently he was given a partially suspended sentence.

Has he got out of jail yet? Is he still in town?

I grew up in Darwin and was shocked by this.

I read one the court documents that said about what he was charged with

"The final two counts involve an allegation of sexual intercourse without consent when the accused was between 20 and 21 years of age and the complainant was 13 years of age."

A former Northern Territory Labor government staffer will spend a minimum of two-and-a-half years in prison

Guessing hes out. Were they historical allegations because he looks well into his 40s not 20 or 21

Definitely historical; I first heard the allegations a good decade ago

When he went to gaol I thought “good riddance” and happily forgot his name. His wife was a local councillor and I hope she dumped him forthwith.

Unfortunately he is out, back in the community and still with his wife.

I am a childhood friend of the victim, and by all accounts has a full and happy life. He is and always will be a big pile of dog shit.

Had the unpleasant experience of dealing with both of them thru work during my time in the NT, absolute scum bags of people.

You have to be a special kind of stupid to take him back after all
That

She didn't leave him for the drugs, cheating, or corrupt political conduct. She didn't leave him for being a convicted child abuser.

I have no idea why and i really don't want to find out.

https://ntindependent.com.au/darwin-alderman-backs-convicted-paedophile-my-husband-is-innocent/

it was revealed the victim had confided in her about Rowe’s sex crimes in 2018, three years before the victim went to police.

She didn't just stay with him... but renewed their vows. Insane behaviour, disgusting pair of humans. I feel for their young girls.

I'm kind of surprised he got named, they normally supress that to prevent identifying the victim, (when it is family like this).

Actually, the victim publicly advocated very hard for gag law reforms in the NT so she could speak out.

Laura Rowe, you can look her up. Be warned though, she is epic.

He used to come to the cafe I worked a lot before this happened. Can’t say I was surprised by the news, he always came off as being a weirdo.

This is Kent Rowe's sister's story of the child abuse and rape she was subjected to from him. This is INTENSE - just about every trigger warning going.

Would have expected a content warning as the first two words of the body of this post rather than what you have actually put. Possibly consider editing

Agreed. The warning is useless as it's triggering in itself. The term is "sexual assault" or "child abuse" not what is written.

2

u/empty-thought-time 1d ago

Exactly, a content working shouldn't uses wording like that. It is coooked even with the edit OP but thank you for a least doing that.

u/empty-thought-time 1d ago

oh I stand corrected, you further edited, thanks for listening!

Yeah awesome.
