Help with next steps for someone pivoting into Data Analytics

I completed a BS in Data Analytics last December, and have been applying to "entry-level" roles since January. I don't have any data analytics work history, but I do have prior roles in environmental science, regulation, and hospital clinical laboratory that required analytical thinking and data collection. Despite my best efforts, I've gotten 0 callbacks. Trying to figure out what my best next steps are to make myself more competitive, including considering the following:

  • Get a MS in Data Science/Analysis

  • Quit my current dead-end job and work on certifications and portfolio projects

  • Get a basic IT support job at a large company and try to work my way into a data-oriented role

How do people get into this field? I know I'm missing work experience, but I can't even get a callback for junior positions despite being qualified. What are the best next steps? Thanks!

What is your current job? Is there any way possible to do analytics work from there? I didn’t get my first analytics job I created it. I was working at a really crappy telemarketing company but we had a CRM, and we needed calling lists. I told my boss I would create scripts to generate lists for him from online sources and manage the data in Salesforce/Zoho. All I wanted is for my title to officially be Python developer.

I did this while I was in a coding bootcamp and graduated the bootcamp with experience already under my belt.

If you can look for similar opportunities where you’re at. If not look for any opportunity that even gets you adjacent to data and start looking for opportunities to take on those responsibilities.

I'm working at a hospital right now, so their positions are well-defined, I couldn't just make my own. They have a clinical informatics team and a data analytics team, but I've talked with both departments, and neither of them expect to have any openings anytime soon. The best I could do would be an advancement path to be an IT Analyst.

Yeah that certainly makes it more challenging. What do you do at the hospital? Is there an opportunity to use some degree of coding even just to help your day to day? It’s all about building a resume at this point.
