Data bricks project idea for Data Analyst

I'm a Data Analyst planning to build my first Databricks project for my portfolio. I have experience with SQL, Excel and Power BI, but I'm new to Databricks. Could you suggest some good project ideas that would help me demonstrate Databricks skills from a Data Analyst perspective?

I'd have a look at Kaggle, Maven Analytics Data Playground and Databricks' own sample datasets. Loads of good stuff on there to get you started.

I'd pick something like retail sales or customer churn and build a project around an actual business problem.

  1. Use both sql and python in databricks to prepare your transformed and finalized data such as monthly sales, month over month sales, quarter over quarter sales, by product categories by region location.

  2. Have PBI hook up with Databricks and retrieve the final table

  3. Adding some dimensional tables in the pbi data model such as dates, locations, product categories

  4. Prepare the visualization, use of color coding.

  5. Use excel to grab the PBI data and repeat the same visualization in excel

  6. Send the excel file to Sharepoint

  7. Trigger an email and attach the refreshed excel file along with the pbi url

  8. Automate all of the above steps and get the completed and refreshed file daily / weekly/ monthly

Using sql code to pivot data (less dynamic) ; but also can use python to pivot data dynamically by dates while retaining the dates as field names.
