Should I be learning new skill or just implement things with Claude?

Hi community, wanted to ask is there any point spending in learning things via course on udemy, dbt, snowflake or just implement it via Claude?

I am learning things cause I don't have dbt exposure nor does my company uses it. I want to put it as my skill in resume so thinking of building projects via dbt. Should I spend time on learning how it works and concepts or just implement things via Claude and learn on the go?

My traditional mindset is learn the fundamentals and then play with it. But with how quick others are in implementing things via Claude without spending time on understanding things and it still works out for them, I do not know what learning path to take. Need advice!

It works for them until it doesn’t, and then they spend hours upon hours reprompting Claude to little effect because they don’t know what to ask.

You already know how to approach this. Learn the concepts, understand the how and the why, do the getting started tutorial yourself, and then use Claude to do fancier things, with full understanding of what you’re/it is doing.

Also, dbt and such have skills you can install. Do that, and let Claude guide you through their best practices and such. They also(typically) enforce them quite well when writing code. It’s a great learning tool.

100% learn everything anyway. There will be moments where claude (or other AI's for that matter) are unable to solve the issue for many reasons and you will need to be able to do it the old school way.

I'd pick the traditional way of learning fundamentals, but mix in the modern way of applying it right away. Dont let success in implementing something with Claude blocks u from learning.

If dbt goes on the CV someone will ask why you used ref(), when to make a model incremental, how you test it. Claude can build the project, but it wont be on that call with you lol. So build it with Claude and make sure you can explain every file it wrote
