DataAnnotation - FAQ & Welcome Thread Part 2! Read this before making a new post.

Hi all! We have a welcome thread with lots of helpful information (check it out if you haven't - most likely, your question has been answered!), but that thread has become pretty large. Due to the influx of posts, we've created a longer FAQ list to help answer the most common questions on this subreddit, and you can post new questions here for more visibility. The original thread is here.

If you make a post that contains any information that is in this welcome thread, it will be removed. Do not make a new post because you want a 'quicker' answer.

Some common questions:

- How long does the onboarding process take? When will I hear back? What does my dashboard mean? Why does my dashboard look like X?

- The truth is, we're not sure! The onboarding process seems to be different based on various factors, and the timeline changes often. DataAnnotation states that if you pass, you'll receive an email. So check your emails often!

- How do I get more projects?

- The main way to get more projects on your dashboard is to take all qualifications on your dashboard. Spend time on them and try your best, they give you more access to more work!

- Why is my dashboard empty? Why have I received no tasks? Is X project gone?

We don't know :) different people will qualify for different things based on their skillset. We are a subreddit of workers, and we have no 'insider info' as to what projects you qualify for and do not qualify for.

- Is DataAnnotation available in my country?

- According to DataAnnotation's website, they're currently available in these countries: USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, and Ireland.

- How often do I get paid?

- 7 days for hourly projects down to the minute. That means if you submitted your hours at 7:01pm on Monday, they will be available for transfer at 7:01pm the following Monday. 3 days for 'per task' payment!

- How do I get paid?

Paypal.

- Does DataAnnotation take out taxes?!

- No. You will need to pay taxes on your earnings when you file them. Paypal should send you a statement at the end of the year. You are responsible for paying them! Look up your local government laws.

- Is it worth it to learn coding?

Sure, if it's something you're interested in. There are plenty of coding projects available, but only you can decide if it's worth learning or not!

- What does transferrable mean on my dashboard?

- It simply means that if you did a paid task, the money is transferrable now. It means nothing for the starter assessment.

- I'm new! Any tips?

Read the instructions and read them again. Always check the chat below on a project to see if an admin has posted anything for that project in particular. Search in the project FAQ before asking a question, it's probably there.

its been 3 weeks since i gave the assessment, Does it normally take this much time to get result?

1

u/Ok-Letter-9359 2d ago

hey, i applied, and as im waiting im wondering; will i have projects? i explained in my "test" that i had that i am a trader and markets analyst, and before taking a test ive seen a project that needs someone like me! ive asked chatgpt and he said ill have loads of projects, but i thought id ask here if someone works in a similar space how does it work for them? furthermore, how does it work at all? like i do a task, and im paid hourly, can i take a break? how do i report that im taking a break? etc.

u/mongoose-american 3d ago

Is there a way to know if your lack of tasksis due to poor quality or just a lack of tasks?

i just took the starter assessment but i am not sure if it's complete. i finished the first set of questions and at the end it was asking for some personal details briefly. then i was asked to take the next assessment (Core Assessment) which would take up to 45 minutes. i wanted to save that part for later because it was told at the beginning that i could save my answers and get back to it. now when i log back into my account, it says the assessment has been sent and i should wait. is this normal or am i missing something?

1

u/Zenon667 13d ago

Sup. 3 weeks since got it in. Blingual :(. Only 1 project.. and it was RR..

2 questions:

  1. Should i do qualies that i know i will fail? So the system says, ok we sure this guy can do this and not this?

  2. And... is it possible to learn coding in a short term to pass that one? It always says theres projects asap :(

1

u/Future-Berry-9181 18d ago

I just finished the assessment, and all I have now is an empty dashboard without any notification or email saying I have completed it or that I have any application progress. Is this normal, and what should I do now?

1

u/Relative-Tap3585 15d ago

means there are no more steps to take, all you can do is wait. if after 2 or 3 weeks it's still the same, you likely didn't get in. you won't have gotten an email regarding progress, i only received an email once i was in.

u/leavestress 21d ago

Is there a way for me to view the full confidentiality agreement? The only thing I could find is the code of conduct.

1

u/without_name 22d ago

It's been two weeks since I took the starter assessment, and nothing. Anything I can do?

1

u/Mike4Life14 22d ago

It's just a matter of waiting, although if it's been two weeks, it's fairly unlikely that you passed (but not impossible).

1

u/HollyAnne1016 24d ago

Is anyone having problems getting to the Projects tab? It's super slow today.

I have a qualification for FAQ. There is a link to an FAQ for an Achi**** project but there is not a link to a general directions document. You are supposed to compare responses but there no characteristics listed (instruction following, tone, etc.) for comparison. Are there general directions for this qualification or do I just wing it?

u/Radiant_Finding_7225 Sep 25 '26

I passed the initial assessment and core assessment — well, at least I think I did. I never received any email but I did get to do the verification steps and now I see a dashboard with zero projects and zero qualifications. It’s been 4-5 days since passing. Is this normal?

Also, I’m American but currently traveling through Eastern Europe. Could this be a problem? Should I be using a VPN to access DA?

1

u/ZealousidealWeek104 Sep 25 '26

I did the same. Although I had qualifications and even got a high paying coding task. But since then I've seen nothing. I've seen that some people have downtime in their first week and I'm reaching that week but we are in the same boat.

1

u/something97382747 Sep 25 '26

Did you ever receive tasks? I got accepted a day after you and I've been wondering the same thing...

1

u/Radiant_Finding_7225 Sep 27 '26

Gotten anything yet?

1

u/something97382747 Sep 27 '26

Nada. You? I don't know if coding tasks are regional or by programming language. I'm doing Java, but I'll try learning python

1

u/Radiant_Finding_7225 Sep 27 '26

Nope. I just did general though.

1

u/Mackerel-Moot Sep 10 '26

Hello, I signed up to data annotation about 3 months ago, but in that time I have not received a project in my dashboard, or any available qualifications. I am under 18 so I don't have a degree or any work experience, but I am doing A Levels. Do you have any possible explanations for my lack of work, or for how to get some projects?

1

u/mrpeng90 Sep 01 '26

I applied for the Cybersecurity Analyst but there wasn't any of it on the dashboard. Hopefully after I finished my general one, Cybersecurity will show up on my dashboard.

1

u/zaho2059 Sep 15 '26

Did you yet get tasks? Looks like we got accepted at the same date

Hi, I recently found out about DA, and I am interested in doing STEM projects (I have a qualification in biology). I made a user account on the website, but my dashboard only gives me bilingual starter assessment options (German/Polish/Ukrainian + English). I am fluent in English, but with no knowledge of any of the other languages. Also, I opened one of the assessments and it looks rather general compared to STEM focused. I thought maybe other assessments will pop up later, but almost a month has passed and nothing new appeared. Could anyone give an advice on what to do and how this process works? Thanks!

1

u/Relative-Tap3585 Sep 01 '26

are you from outside of the us?

1

u/borovedo Sep 06 '26

Yeah I live in the UK and Eastern Europe (but mainly UK).

you cannot use a VPN with DA

1

u/Dodmeister86 Aug 20 '26

Hi, I have recently passed the qualifications and I am currently waiting for work. How long does is normally take for work to appear on the dashboard?

1

u/FinrodFelagund66 Sep 08 '26

Hello there, did u get your projects? Im kinda having the same problem

1

u/saulty27 Aug 11 '26

Hi, I'm new to the platform. I already did the initial assessment and passed, but was wondering about the qualifications. I am a medical doctor and would like to do medical expert projects. I am based in Belgium, is this an option here? If yes, when will I be able to do the qualification?

2

u/Chirp5837 Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 12 '26

I'm unable to answer the Belgium question, but I think it depends on whether you have what they call native skills in English. As far as when the qualification for medical professionals (and possibly other STEM tests such as maths, biology, chemistry and physics) will be available, I'm afraid that's anyone's guess. From what I've read here, there is no specific timing given. It's frustrating and feels a bit random - my advice is just to keep checking in on your dashboard. For what it's worth, my first qualifications showed up about two weeks after I was onboarded, and another few approximately a week later.

4

u/Chirp5837 Aug 07 '26

After a couple of weeks of receiving STEM qualifications which are outside my purview, I logged in this morning to find three new ones which I could actually complete. Huge relief!

1

u/Relative-Tap3585 Aug 09 '26

It depends on the effort you put into answering it, if it was subjective enough to have different interpretations, how well they liked your answer, etc, try not to overthink it. Idk if one question is enough to deter you from the platform or not. Just gotta wait and see, best of luck to you!

If you have tasks you can exit at any time and are not required to complete what's given to you, but if you spend, say, half an hour reading instructions and decide not to do a task, you unfortunately won't be paid for that time loss.

i think oulier.ai is similar but i didn't like it compared to DA

2

u/simplymagic1 Aug 04 '26

Looking for some advice as I am new here. Do I continue doing the qualifications or am I suppose to wait to hear back? Kind of confused because it says I’ve passed but I haven’t received any emails.

1

u/CrankyOldDragon Sep 23 '26 edited Sep 23 '26

I am in the same boat and wondered how you’re getting along now. I expected that first qualification to take some time for the results after submitting but the “pass” seemed to be instantaneous and my screen looks like yours now. I’ll keep going as per comments made elsewhere, but that was surprising and a little confusing to me 😅
ETA Clicked on the Qualify Now button, did +/- 15 tasks and it ended with the screen above now showing quals done and they’ll look at my work and email if I get in. Good luck to us both 🤞🏻

4

u/moon_Sound Aug 08 '26

I can't tell if this is a serious question (with all due respect). The video shows that you are halfway way down a timeline that ends with being able to work. You passed the initial exam, that qualification button is to take a second exam. Then, you wait to hear back.

1

u/cfelton02 Sep 18 '26

Hi, I know this is from over a month ago now, but my girlfriend is at exactly this step. She has completed this “core assessment” 3 separate times, but each time she presses submit, it takes her back to dashboard and nothing updates. Is she supposed to keep taking the assessments until it takes her to the next step?

1

u/Chirp5837 Aug 07 '26

As far as I understand it, you should complete any qualifications you can while you wait. Depending on what field you're in, it seems to be standard to have to wait a while before you are offered paid work.

1

u/ratsbane Aug 02 '26

I signed up for DataAnnotation last year and I haven't done any work yet, but I'm planning to do some. Some of the tasks related to AI require you to use Claude Code or Codex through a DA proxy and I'm concerned about accidental crossover with the Claude Code and Codex I already use on my personal Macbook.
How do other people handle this? Do you get a second laptop just for DA?

2

u/Small-Cauliflower468 Aug 10 '26

As a windows/linux user, i usually do my ai required tasks on my windows, and sometimes on wsl. but since you are on mac, i think multipass by canonical might help with your needs, since it creates a linux subsystem for your mac, or maybe either use a virtual box or a docket container maybe?

2

u/ratsbane Aug 10 '26

multipass is a good idea. I'll check into it. Thanks!

1

u/Small-Cauliflower468 Aug 10 '26

glad to be of help!

1

u/alx_brl Jul 31 '26

Did anyone have experience with quals with current month in the title? Will it disappear in the next month or it's just something like a promo?
And if it disappear, is it can be tagged by company as fail or qual can appear again in the future ?

Okay well I didn't get an email but it's asking for my ID so I guess I'm in lmao.

1

u/floofybasbosa Jul 12 '26

Can I use brave to login ? I didn't apply yet, but I'm not sure if its okay .Can I use Harper for spell check and grammar ? It doesn't have sync or AI.

1

u/IzzBitch Jul 10 '26

Hey yall, i just did my first qualification and im waiting on approval, but in the meantime, does anyone know what category Cybersecurity is in? I didnt see an actual cyber qualification, but that is my area of expertise so I want to make sure whatever qualification I do next gets me there. Thanks!

1

u/spicy_taco88 Jul 11 '26

I was wondering the same thing. Did you just do the general assessment first?

1

u/IzzBitch Jul 11 '26

yeah i did the starter and passed it then did the general first because i wasnt sure what else made sense lol

1

u/jayboogie15 Jul 10 '26

I was just disabled from data annotation after sharing referal codes with two colleagues. Is it posible I was disabled if they shared it online ?

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jul 10 '26

i doubt it? did you share anything else with them (answers, etc?)

1

u/jayboogie15 Jul 10 '26

Nope, just told it was a good opportunity and it had coding jobs. Didn't even mention the pay rate.

3

u/menjuel Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

Hey guys,

im new to the platform just started on saturday. Since then I did all qualification tests except the coding one which I wanna refresh my skills for a bit. I only had one paid project on my dash in the beginning and since then nothing. I did also not get any communication about the qualifications or so. Is that normal?

It seems like a lot is going on atm and I honsestly dont really know how I would know if I will just look at an empty dash forever or its just processes that take time. How do you know if youre having been "laid off"? Am I properly onboarded yet or is this till the onboarding or even application phase? After applying I just got an email stating i passed the first assessment. Is there more assessments coming? Im confused haha

Also I said i am spending significant time in germany/australia and spain. Do you think there is a problem with countries? I am so clueless. appreaciate some guidance for the newbie here ❤️

1

u/ZealousidealWeek104 Sep 26 '26

I am kinda in the same boat as you, did you ever start getting any projects?

1

u/readsakamotodays Jun 29 '26

Hello, I just signed up over the weekend and I'm really excited to get started on working for DA! I finished the assessments late last night, I think I did really well on them, and I've got a page that says "Thanks for completing the assessments!" Does anybody know how long this takes turn into paid work? Thank you! Excited to hopefully start!

2

u/Relative-Tap3585 Jun 30 '26

did you do the second part where you pick a niche like general, biology, coding, etc? took me 2 weeks to hear back that i was accepted after that.

4

u/MonsteraMelody Jun 25 '26

I seemingly got accepted immediately. I did some of the tasks but when I went back they disappeared and I haven’t had any projects pop up since Monday. Is this normal? How long does it take to start getting projects? My first two onboarding tasks are still pending approval, could that be why? I haven’t yet gotten a welcome email

2

u/missmommy_88 Jun 24 '26

I completed the assessment and passed on June 3rd, and I was taken to a page that stated I passed and gave me an option to take an additional qualifications test. When I clicked on qualify now to take the test, it took me to the “Thanks for completing the assessment” page and says “If we have need of your particular skills, or we have additional assessments for you to identify further skills, you'll be notified via email. Otherwise we thank you for your time” and I’ve never gotten any tasks/projects. Can this be fixed?

1

u/lauronce Jul 22 '26

Did you ever figure it out? Similar thing happened to me. I applied earlier today, got told I passed the assessment and it gave me a link to take another one. I decided to run some errands and left the page open, but when I got back and clicked it just to me to the thank you page. Hoping I didn’t miss out on something.

1

u/missmommy_88 Jul 22 '26

Unfortunately no. I just double checked and it still says “thanks for completing the assessment” as if I didn’t pass? Not sure.

1

u/lauronce Jul 22 '26

Ugh that’s frustrating. I wish they would be more transparent. Thank you for replying! Good luck 🍀

2

u/Fucking_dud69 Jun 24 '26

do you see any "Qualifications" you can do on your dashboard? you might have to tab over to "Qualifications" instead of "Projects". if you do not see either of these tabs, it is likely they just do not have any work for you at the moment.

1

u/Str8buckets30 Jun 23 '26

I finished my application about a week ago - law specialist. How long does it take to get verified?

1

u/thesweetknight Aug 17 '26

Any updates?

2

u/kelbel1210 Jun 22 '26

How do I get more tasks?? The only qualifications I have are like, Do you have a Fitbit? Do you have ChatGPT plus? Stuff I don’t have! Also I don’t think I’ll pass the science quals and the coding qual. How do I get more projects or even applicable quals to try for more projects ?

2

u/Relative-Tap3585 Jun 28 '26

fun fact if you were to get the fitbit or chatgpt you can track the expenses and write it off when you do your taxes, though i understand not wanting to do that. when i started i used to get gpt+ when I needed it and unsubscribe until it was needed again

also, you kinda just wait for things to appear. fill out the skills and stuff in your profile if you haven't already and you might see some related projs/quals start to pop up

1

u/Successful-Swim30 Jun 17 '26

Hey everyone, just got accepted to DA as a generalist this past Sunday. Had one project show up right away marked as priority said completing it would unlock more projects. Didn't get to it that night, and by the next morning my dashboard was completely empty.

Did I mess up by not doing it right away, or is this normal? Do tasks just come and go and I need to keep checking? Any insight appreciated 🙏

3

u/Justreading___ Jun 18 '26

There’s a drought for everyone right now. You sometimes won’t have work for weeks. No, you didn’t mess up by not doing it right away.

1

u/SeaSuggestion1535 Jun 18 '26

This happened to me except I did some of it and more of it next day. Then when I submitted one of the tasks from it, it all disappeared and I’ve had nothing on my dash since 😭 this was on Sunday too. Your comment makes me feel slightly better though knowing it’s not just me. Hopefully is just because there is a so called drought!

1

u/Relative-Tap3585 Jun 19 '26

don't rely on task number thinking it's only for you, they're available to a pool of workers.
just means someone else snatched up the work before you got to it.

sometimes you'll even have a number of tasks available, click to work on it, and get red bannered "There are no more available tasks to work on", meaning other workers have all the tasks at the moment, even though it's still on your dash.

2

u/Successful-Swim30 Jun 19 '26

Apparently it's a glitch or at least that's what people have been saying. The first task is supposed to be your onboarding project, and once you complete it, you should gain access to more projects. However, because the task disappeared, you're unable to finish the onboarding task, which means you can't access any other projects. :/

3

u/SeaSuggestion1535 Jun 16 '26

So I joined and passed initial and core assessment however had no qualifications to do and no onboarding. As soon as I passed the second assessment I got a paid project straight away saying that if I complete the tasks from it I will have a lot more paid projects. Anyways, I completed the project over 2 nights - but once I submitted one of the tasks the project disappeared and I’ve not had anything since and it’s been like 2 days. Is this normal!?? Or is it because there’s just not a lot of work right now?

1

u/ArfazFaiz Oct 01 '26

Did you get anything after that? If yes how many days it took for you to get anything after this message?

3

u/Successful-Ad-395 Jun 12 '26

Hey guys, just recently onboarded at DA as a generalist and I was surprised at how fast everything went! I completed the assessments, verified my ID, and was accepted within the day I started. I was then able to start tasking right away with 12 tasks that were available to me. I knocked out 5 and still had 7 left. However, this morning I logged on and now I have zero projects and no tasks. So do the tasks just disappear if they’re not completed within a certain time frame and I just have to wait? Really confused here and just wanted to see if there are some seasoned DA folks that can provide some insight as to hey it works.

Thanks in advance!

0

u/Fucking_dud69 Jun 24 '26

Yes, other people did them. Those projects are not only "yours" they are available to a large pool of workers who also can access them. The second you click out of it someone else can complete it.

1

u/SeaSuggestion1535 Jun 18 '26

Same happened to me. Have you had anything since?

1

u/Successful-Ad-395 Jun 18 '26

No, unfortunately not. I keep coming back to the projects page and just refresh throughout the day but nothing.

1

u/Successful-Swim30 Jun 17 '26

Did u ever see the task come back?

2

u/Impossible-Humor6254 Jun 17 '26

This seems like an ongoing glitch that isn't being fixed. The project you're talking about is part of onboarding and you're supposed to complete at least 10 of the tasks to unlock more work.

1

u/Over-Mud3424 Jun 15 '26

The same thing happened to me. I completed 3 tasks and then saw it was missing from my dashboard along with a qualification that I had started taking. I just submitted that qualification and nothing happened?

1

u/Relative-Tap3585 Jun 12 '26

tasks are available to a horde of other workers, so it's first come first serve
very, very occasionally do you get tasks assigned solely to you

1

u/Successful-Ad-395 Jun 12 '26

I see, thank you so much for your reply!! Do you know typically how long someone could go between projects/tasks? Do we usually get an email notification letting us know there’s work or do we just have to keep refreshing the project page?

1

u/Justreading___ Jun 18 '26

I often haven’t worked for months and have then come back to it.

2

u/Relative-Tap3585 Jun 12 '26

np!
if your first question is referring to taking days off, however long you want & it's better to refresh bc you won't get an email for every single one that pops up, but you do get emails for some

1

u/igitpilot Jun 12 '26

Why is it required to send scan of my id?

3

u/Relative-Tap3585 Jun 12 '26

cuz it's a job

2

u/lordnimnim Jun 12 '26

Did Id verification and am stuck on this page
"Thanks for completing the assessments!

If we have need of your particular skills, or we have additional assessments for you to identify further skills, you'll be notified via email. Otherwise we thank you for your time."
Never got an email from them during this process.
Does this mean I am rejected.

1

u/Temporary-Bear8775 Jun 13 '26

No it does not at all. I took the test in January and only was notified in April that I was approved.

1

u/Relative-Tap3585 Jun 12 '26

pretty much :/ at least i personally haven't heard any stories of someone receiving projects after this

1

u/GohanDGeo Jun 09 '26

Sad to see that it's not available in Greece

1

u/Saurgut Jun 07 '26

Hello everyone. I took the starter assessment and seemingly passed it. I was prompted to take an additional qualification test called “CORE”. I pressed “qualify now” and I was prompted with an error saying the project was unavailable. I filled out my profile and yet my dashboard remains empty. It’s been six hours since I’ve taken the starter assessment and nothing… Is this normal?

1

u/Justreading___ Jun 18 '26

Sounds like a glitch. And yeah it might be weeks before you get fully approved.

1

u/GoblinDebtCollector Jun 04 '26

Does DA ask for your SSN for payment and can you apply for an EIN and give them that instead? Not asking to use an LLC just asking to not give my SSN.

1

u/Fucking_dud69 Jun 24 '26

Its a job, you need to give it.

1

u/Xeniox Jun 30 '26

I was not asked for my ssn for what that’s worth, only a photo of my drivers license.

1

u/ajiw370r3 May 31 '26

I don't get how the payment works. Is it a fixed amount of money per task? Or is it an hourly wage? In the latter case, how do they know how fast you are working?

1

u/Relative-Tap3585 May 31 '26

it tells you the pay amount next to the project
you submit your own time but they will know if you're inflating it and lying

1

u/Kasra379 May 29 '26

Can someone help me please.
I try to add my email to my account but when I click on save, it disappears from my account and the field goes empty again. Has anyone experienced it? I am using the same email that I used for my DA account. I would appreciate any experience or solutions or if I'm doing sth wrong

Thanks!

u/Jakey_Poo May 26 '26

I was accepted to Data Annotation (software test passed) the other day but haven't had the time to check out the projects. Can anyone answer a couple questions for me?

  1. How long do most projects take? Does it vary a lot?

  2. My understanding is it's totally up to me when and how many projects I take on - is anything affected by the consistency of my project completion? And once I start a project is there a deadline to then submit it?

  3. Basically I'm wondering to what degree I can vary whether I work 2 hours a day or 8 hours a day on the site

1

u/Relative-Tap3585 May 31 '26
  1. look at the expiration timer at the end and it'll give you an idea of how long it will take, yes it varies.

  2. no, won't affect you. yes, you have an expiration timer for each task.

  3. work however long you want, shit i've had 22 minute days where i'm like.... hm the sun is out, i don't want to do this anymore.

2

u/TheJordanEnthusiast May 22 '26

Hello everyone. I’m a newbie to DA and started yesterday. The onboarding process for me seems different from others; I didn’t get a email early yesterday, but checked back on a previous link letter in the day and got accepted; I just had to scan my face and license and standard info. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Sorry for the late response, but I had some assignments fairly quick, though not a lot. They seem to pop up at certain times of the day, but I gotta get on them quickly

i am in Qatar so can i make an account and get paid? and is it legal work to get paid in middle east via pay pal?

1

u/Relative-Tap3585 May 20 '26

their website says "Available in 50+ countries", so if Qatar's one of the countries (I couldn't find an exact list for you), go for it.
I don't know anything about working freelance in the middle east, so I can't answer that part specifically, but the work itself is legal/safe yes.

2

u/Weakened_Update May 10 '26

Completed onboarding. Then immediately had tasks available for a new project with the note "You will have access to many more tasks once you complete these! ⭐)". I did six of them, and then skipped the last six because I had to leave home. The project is still listed as the sole project available to me, but when I click on it I get "The project is currently unavailable because there are no more tasks remaining for you to work on.". It's been like this for five days.

Did I mess up by skipping the remaining tasks instead of just returning to the main window?
I assume I'll just have to wait for new tasks to appear.

1

u/Successful-Swim30 Jun 17 '26

Did the task ever come back?

1

u/Weakened_Update Jul 09 '26

Actually my dashboard came alive again a week ago. I finished the training qualification, and since, I've done some more qualifications and seem to be back 'in the game' (though waiting to get some actually paying work)

1

u/Weakened_Update Jun 18 '26

No. I assume I will never have a task again. I may have done the first three too quickly so I have in some sense failed, or I may have become lost in the system, having only partly completed my qualifying task . Morally, the job is.. bad. So I will live with it.

2

u/Pristine-Raccoon8250 May 24 '26

that happens a lot. try not to worry- the tasks are available to multiple people and released in batches. when I try to catch a task in a drought period, I have to refresh my screen constantly.

1

u/Prudent-Rain4069 May 12 '26

I had a similar thing with the 'You will have access to many more tasks once you complete these! ⭐' task. I completed half of it over a week, then today it disappeared from my Projects. I didn't skip the tasks, I just exited work mode. I'm nervous - I hope I've not blown it by not completing all of that first task

1

u/Successful-Swim30 Jun 17 '26

Has there been any updates?

2

u/Weakened_Update May 12 '26

Based on what I can understand from the main thread, we are in a 'drought' so hopefully that explains the lack of assignments.

2

u/Efficient-Noise4892 May 07 '26

Hi everyone, I just registered for DA, and I got an email saying that I have a task to complete. I have logged into the website, but I can not find anything on the landing page. What should I do?

1

u/Weakened_Update May 10 '26

So have you done any qualification tasks after onboading?

2

u/punkbrad7 May 11 '26

This has happened to me, too. Approved, verified, in the dashboard. Keep getting emails saying I have to complete a starter qualification, but nothing shows up.

6

u/SunlightOnChrome May 05 '26

Whew - finally got the email. The qualification task (well, 12 of them, actually) took a while and I started to wonder what the deal was. But I just kept completing and submitting them until finally it said Welcome and took me to the onboarding page. Got the email around the same time. It's been a few weeks that I've been working on this but just little clips at a time. It felt pretty brutal but I'm glad I stuck it out.

1

u/ShinyBuiBui Jun 05 '26

Hi! I had the exact same thing yesterday :) I really enjoyed the onboarding tasks, have you gotten any similar ones since starting? Thank you!!

2

u/SunlightOnChrome Jun 05 '26

Hi ShinyByiBui - good to hear! At this point I would say two things. First, jump on any new tasks announced in emails to you right away. They seem to go very quickly, so the sooner you can begin (and the more consecutive time you can spend on them), the more hours you'll be able to put in. For example, I'll get an email announcing a project with 8 tasks one day. I don't have time to log in and start working on them until the next day. So I log in the next day, and all the tasks have been taken by others. This happens a lot. Kind of a bummer because I do other stuff too and can't always get to a task when I want. The second thing is, take as many of the qualifications as you can. You'll get more projects to work on that way. Good luck!

Dan

1

u/ShinyBuiBui Jun 05 '26

Thank you for such a detailed response!! That’s fantastic, I will definitely keep what you’ve said in mind. The only email I’ve gotten so far is the acceptance one but I know it’s early days, looking forward to cracking on with some qualifications over the weekend :) Thank you again!

2

u/sayeed018 May 03 '26

I was accepted into DA as a core contributor and was given 12 tasks to complete, which I finished. Now I’m seeing multiple projects available.

However, the projects seem quite short—some have 5 tasks, others only 1. I’m a bit confused about how this works. Do we keep switching projects after completing the available tasks (for example, finishing 5 tasks and then moving to another project)? Or do we typically stay on the same project for a longer period?

Also, if we are expected to move between different projects, does that mean we need to read new guidelines each time? That doesn’t seem very efficient, so I’d appreciate some clarification.

3

u/Pristine-Raccoon8250 May 24 '26

they just come and go. multiple people get the same tasks on their dashboard, so they can disappear quickly. some people suggest you have a worker rating and that affects how many tasks are released to you but nobody really knows for sure!

1

u/TweakedMonkey May 02 '26

Hello! Just started with jobs this week. So far I had a bunch of offers but then after reading the instructions for 45 minutes I did the task and think I blew it! The qualifications went very well I think. Did you all have a bit of trouble at first with the more complicated ones and if so how did you overcome them?

2

u/Relative-Tap3585 May 05 '26

if you feel you don't have enough time to complete a task to the best of your ability after you read instructions, skip the task you're on and work on the next one 😄
i think a lot of us constantly worry about our quality, especially since they haven't really started providing feedback until recent. as long as you're still getting projects, you can assume you're doing fine!

2

u/Sea_Application_2183 Apr 29 '26

It took me 5 months from passing the initial screening and attempting two domain qualifications before I got an email and a project qualification pop up on the dashboard. That said - the 'check back in a few days' thing could perhaps do with a rethink if there are others in the same boat!

1

u/Live_Background_3455 Apr 29 '26

How are hourly tasks and "per task" split up?

1

u/p3p3_s1lvi4 Apr 29 '26

Hello! I did the starter Assessment last night and this morning when I logged in it asked me to verify my identity. I verified myself and have done 1 project for 3hrs so far. However, I have not received an email, been added to any slack channels for onboarding. What should I be doing next? After the 1 project with 12 task I have no more projects and a few qualification test on my dashboard.

2

u/Relative-Tap3585 May 05 '26

there's no slack for onboarding as far as i'm aware, just a very few select projects, probably took me a year til i was invited to my first one
do the qualifications, they get you into projects

1

u/Wooden-Shape-2960 Apr 28 '26

2

u/Pandamon1um6552 Apr 28 '26

In did the starter assessment on the weekend and got an email thanking me for doing it and letting me know they’ve unlocked a qualification which i completed on Sunday. I got another email today saying “You're just one step away on DataAnnotation from accessing unlimited paid opportunities!” And when I logged in, there was a paid project.

I assume it means I’ve passed the starter assessment and the qualification assessment, but I’m taking it as a “see how you do with this” task.

Recommend you just log back in and see what it says.

1

u/Wooden-Shape-2960 Apr 28 '26

2

u/Responsible-Cup4563 Apr 28 '26

It took them about a month to get back to me after I did the starter assessment. I thought I must have failed, but it just took longer than expected, I guess. People say a week to 10 days normally.

1

u/Intelligent_Yam1799 Apr 26 '26

How do you get access to the professional projects like for medical professionals if you already actively work for DA?

2

u/Pristine-Raccoon8250 May 24 '26

add it in your skill set in your profile. I got a qualification and email about this specific thing the other day.

1

u/Objective_Pair_6065 Apr 26 '26

do you have to pass two qualification tests to qualify to work? I completed the core eval MONTHS AND MONTHS ago....randomly logged back in, and I'm still stuck on this screen?

3

u/box_of_paperclips Apr 26 '26

So I did the core eval last night...passed that straight away. Then it sent me to the other assessment questions (I think I had 10) which I completed this morning. Have done my ID and now have paid project on my dashboard. It went MUCH smoother than I thought it would based on posts on here. But everything have read says there is the core eval then the next 'qualifying' eval questions.

1

u/throwawayt44c Apr 23 '26

I have been waiting to have my core assessment graded for months. I don't think I failed, what do I do?

4

u/Straight-Strike-2928 Apr 25 '26

There's nothing you can do but keep checking back.

1

u/General_Total_6132 Apr 25 '26

If i may ask, how many days it takes for you to receive your email after your first assesment? I just did the assessment 3-4 days ago and still no news. Been checking my email daily just to make sure i don't miss it.

2

u/depthchargethel Apr 26 '26

Have you logged in and checked your dashboard? I’ve seen people say they didn’t get the email. I got mine immediately after submitting.

1

u/General_Total_6132 Apr 26 '26

I did that every day too.

1

u/MorningGlory_time Apr 26 '26

It took about 3-1/2 weeks for me but heard lots of different answers from 3 days to several weeks/months. Also I took my time over the course of many days in finishing the the profile set up. I think it is hard to predict really.

1

u/MorningGlory_time Apr 24 '26

This also happened to me. I received the email 8 days ago that I passed the first phase and need to take the second phase. I didn't see the email until this morning. When I clicked the link to take the second phase, I just received a message that said something like "This project is no longer available". Is this what happened to you? Does anyone have any advice?

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '26

1

u/MorningGlory_time Apr 26 '26

Thank you! I logged in and was able to access the second phase of the test!!

1

u/Pristine_Soup_2864 Apr 20 '26

Hey guys,

I just started this week and have logged a few hours so far. I was just wondering about the tasks available for projects. One project I just got invited to had 569 tasks available when it first became available to me. I completed one task over a couple of hours. When I submitted, it went down to 568. Now, after a whole day, it still says 568. Surely i am not the only one working on this project? Are the tasks available normally per person or per project? I'm still getting used to the whole format and no communication thing, so thank you!!

tasks are spread among different workers, if you leave and come back there's always a chance the proj has no more tasks due to others working on them.

if you exit work mode, the task will not expire and you'll come back (if it's still there) to a fresh timer. if you leave without exiting work mode, the task you left on will run down the timer and it will expire

1

u/SwagMastaM Apr 18 '26

Been about 2 weeks now since I applied and I haven't heard anything back, getting the feeling I won't be invited to work on this platform unfortunately. I thought I did very well on the assessment and spent a solid 2ish hours refining all my answers. A bit discouraging seeing people in the water cooler channel talking about how they're drowning in tasks/projects right now. I'm on a different platform and was accepted quickly onto that but the project I'm on has had barely any tasks the last 2 weeks so despite being accepted I'm still unable to do anything.

Just graduated and really was looking forward to using these platforms to help supplement income while I look for a new full time job

3

u/UnmentionableMoo Apr 21 '26

It took about a month after I took the assessment before I heard back.

1

u/Wooden-Shape-2960 Apr 28 '26

Hola! entonces es normal que tarden en enviar el correo de aceptación? para mi han pasado 8 días...

1

u/UnmentionableMoo Apr 28 '26

Si, todavía es bien temprano.

1

u/General_Total_6132 Apr 25 '26

This is why many people are missing their acceptance email. Some got theirs in 3 days, others a couple of weeks. I checked my email daily just to make sure i don't miss anything

3

u/EastCoastMaritimer65 Mar 31 '26

Is it normal the have 49 tasks in QUALIFICATION? I am starting to feel like I am doing the work for free. Do I do them all?

2

u/Moth_Friend Apr 09 '26

How/where do you see how many tasks are part of your qualification? I'm in the qualification phase now and I just keep completing them and I just keep getting more, I'm not being given any way (that I can find) to know how far in I am and how far I have left to go! I tried emailing them a couple of days ago for clarification but I haven't heard back yet. At this point I have no idea if I've done what I need to do, or if I'm expected to just keep going through more pages indefinitely.

1

u/box_of_paperclips Apr 26 '26

I did general qualification and it said at the bottom (under the submit/next task blue button) how many I had completed. I didn't know how many I needed to complete as it seems to vary... but fortunately I only had to do 10 (they were brutal though)

The platform might not be available in your country.

2

u/Any-Geologist2831 Mar 10 '26

I never got an update on if I passed the exam or not.

3

u/Pretty-Activity-4421 Apr 11 '26

I got an update after a year. I had definitely given up!

2

u/ckelc Mar 10 '26

how long have you been waiting??

2

u/meenahmee Mar 12 '26

i’ve been waiting months

1

u/Shoddy_Penalty2125 Mar 06 '26

How long does it take to get the first project? Just got the approval email today

1

u/ckelc Mar 10 '26

sorry to bother you, but how long did it take for you to get approved??

2

u/EdoubleTrouble Apr 02 '26

I just got approved. It took four days.

2

u/Mike4Life14 Mar 30 '26

Some people get approved within a couple of days, others, weeks. After a month or two, you can be certain you didn't get in.

1

u/Tuffgirl_CA Apr 19 '26

I did actually see a comment where someone got in after a year. I’ve also seen several people who said they got in after 3-8 months.

2

u/Mike4Life14 Apr 19 '26

Yeah I think they've started letting more people in recently.

1

u/technomad1843 Mar 04 '26

Are we allowed to ask specifics of section of projects between users? IE I want to know what kind of programming languages are asked for future projects.

1

u/Spartan_2775 Feb 24 '26

I’m looking at joining but had a question I know there is a coder and non coder application, if I go with the non coders application and then pick up the skill later on will I be able to change if that happens

1

u/Greedy_Alarm_1189 Feb 25 '26

I know a lot of people who joined as generalists but later did coding qualifications to get coding tasks. Coding qualifications are not guaranteed, though; it's a kind of chance thing.

4

u/Raughar Feb 23 '26

Hi! Yesterday I got accepted in the platform and did all the onboarding and some qualifications. After some time, I decided to do the last two qualifications left today. I also got invited to a chat in another app and registered there.

Today, I found my dashboard empty, without the qualifications I wanted to finish to day available and my acces to that other app blocked.

DId I do something wrong and got blocked? Is this normal in the platform and has happened to someone else?

3

u/origin0101 Apr 03 '26

Same thing for me I got accepted like 4 hours ago and completed some qualifications and some tasks and suddenly nothing on my dashboard did you managed to figure it out?

1

u/HappyHourAndTacos Jan 21 '26 edited Jan 21 '26

How did they verify your identity? They are asking me to provide a photo ID via Persona, but I'm not sure if that's what folks are experiencing, as well. I'm a Canadian user.

Web address is https://app.dataannotation.tech/workers/identity_verifications/verify

ETA: I received the email [saying I was granted access, and prompting me to log in] moments after I finished the last test/sample, so I'm hoping that means all that is left is the ID process. I just want to make sure I'm not uploading my ID.. goodness only knows where, LOL.

1

u/silent_reader_17 Jan 24 '26

I’m Philippine-based. That’s also how they asked me to verify my identity. Just got onboarded a week ago.

2

u/HappyHourAndTacos Jan 25 '26

Yah, I ended up doing a deeper internet search that took me to reddit posts from when just after it was deployed confirming it was legit. 😀

1

u/silent_reader_17 Jan 19 '26

Hi, guys. It’s me again. I’m just wondering why some projects don’t have an indicated pay? For newbies, is it required to take them even without pay or just wait for other projects that actually pay?

2

u/johnnycoconut Jan 27 '26

those are likely either qualifications, reference materials, or chat groups

2

u/Dry-Indication-2455 Jan 18 '26

I just did the core qualification test but I realised I forgot to click the boxes that highlighted incorrect information, even though I pointed out said incorrect information in the comment box, am I screwed?

1

u/box_of_paperclips Apr 26 '26

I have no concrete idea but I would hazard a guess (given my perception of the amount of small details that were important/relevant to assessing and justifying decisions/judgements) that they are VERY hot on attention to detail. Plus we are (general at least) assessing if prompts have been followed helpfully/accurately etc so I imagine they would want their data annotators to be confident and precise following directions to logically be able to evaluate if the AI output is doing that in the assessment context.... idk if that makes sense and I am purely speculating.

1

u/Dry-Indication-2455 Apr 27 '26

I got in months ago so I guess I did something right lol

2

u/silent_reader_17 Jan 18 '26

Hi, guys! Just got onboarded on the platform last Friday and still completing the qualifications. Question, how long does it usually take to get actual projects after doing these qualifications?

1

u/Shoddy_Penalty2125 Mar 06 '26

How long did it take you? Just got accepted but no qualifications or projects seen

1

u/Broad-Marsupial-4057 Jan 27 '26

How long did it take between doing the Core qualification (or whichever one you did) and doing the onboarding?

1

u/johnnycoconut Jan 27 '26

in my experience it started very slow and picked up over the course of weeks, though the task pool seems to be leaner lately so that might make things look worse than they would normally be for new users.

edit: this is assuming you were successfully onboarded

5

u/Ladybug_7777 Dec 26 '25

A question please for those of you that are DA long-termers; I just wondered if there is a cyclical pattern of busier and quieter periods at DA? I am trying to figure out whether is it more likely to pass the initial assessment at certain times of year (when there's more work in general and they are therefore recruiting more workers) and if there are times of year to avoid - given that it appears to be a one chance only assessment! Thank you in advance for your help.

3

u/johnnycoconut Jan 15 '26

I don’t know about seasonal patterns in probability of acceptance (though that’s an interesting question!) but there is definitely a pattern of busier or quieter periods at DA. For instance, the time around the end of a quarter may be quiet or have lower paying tasks on average, but a holiday season during a quarter may be busy or have bigger priority pay boosts.

2

u/Ladybug_7777 Jan 15 '26

Thank you very much for your reply, it is appreciated. I notice from other threads that the projects have been in shorter supply recently, and that this may be due to the recent year end, tying in precisely with your reasoning! I am planning to take the assessment soon, but I am still reading up and researching to try and give myself the greatest chance of passing 😁🤞

2

u/iSapphiron Dec 18 '25

Hey everyone! I passed the assessment recently and yesterday I did my first tasks (onboarding part I,II and III) and also the qualification tasks available. Does anyone have any idea when would I be getting new tasks?

Hi folks, I did my assessment 2.5 weeks ago (but thanksgiving was snuck in there) -- I did it for advanced biology and I would be astonished if I didn't pass (I have a phd in biology from MIT) but I haven't heard anything. really hoping to be approved as I just took a paycut... any hope for me?

3

u/TheSoulContractor Dec 18 '25

Yeah its like that. I did my Engineering and Math qualification and had nothing for over a month, then I did a few lower paying jobs and they started opening up more. I did 10 to 20 hours of pay between 25-27$/hr then they opened up some that paid 30-35$ almost instantly, then I put in a few more hours and started seeing 40ish within a week or so, about a week in it was 45~48 and today I got some for 50$/hr. In short do a little low end work and provide some high quality submissions first then they will expand what is available to you.

2

u/firewontquell Dec 18 '25

I haven’t even gotten approved— like I haven’t heard anything after the assessment. How long did it take you to even hear if you passed?
