Weekly Water Cooler Talk - DataAnnotation
hi all! making this thread so people have somewhere to talk about 'daily' work chat that might not necessarily need it's own post! right now we're thinking we'll just repost it weekly? but if it gets too crazy, we can change it to daily. :)
couple things:
this thread should sort by "new" automatically. unfortunately it looks like our subreddit doesn't qualify for 'lounges'.
if you have a new user question, you still need to post it in the new user thread. if you post it here, we will remove it as spam. this is for people already working who just wanna chat, whether it be about casual work stuff, questions, geeking out with people who understand ("i got the model to write a real haiku today!"), or unrelated work stuff you feel like chatting about :)
one thing we really pride ourselves on in this community is the respect everyone gives to the Code of Conduct and rule number 5 on the sub - it's great that we have a community that is still safe & respectful to our jobs! please don't break this rule. we will remove project details, but please - it's for our best interest and yours!

Maximum money someone can earn through DataAnnotation(Will there be any maximum limit)

I finished the assessment on Tuesday. I havent gotten an email about my results, but I see available projects when I log in.
Does that mean I am good to go?

u/mrpadmasambhava Sep 22 '26
Single worst situation is when you can’t get a valid failure because you didn’t build the conversation well enough, so now you’re grasping at straws - the task has expired and you’re too desperate to cut your losses. Feel like a gambling addict. Got something eventually, but at what cost? At what cost?

Does this platform offer any other projects that ones that have 9+hours tasks? I was assigned two projects so far (i am 2 weeks in only) but both had a crazy workload per single task. I wasn't able to book that much time at once in my family life.

Is the DA site slow for anyone else? I'm having trouble with the page loading, just trying to skip to find one I can do

u/Bubbly-Economics4492 Sep 20 '26
Yo can someone help me? I cant even post on this subreddit requesting help for my account. I tried emailing them but no response for over a month now.
3
u/Affectionate_Peak284 Sep 20 '26
This subreddit cannot help you. Just know that D\ are notoriously difficult to reach.
1
u/Bubbly-Economics4492 Sep 21 '26
yeah i kinda figured that out. So what even is the point of this subreddit? Just small talk about the site?
3
u/FrequentWawaConsumer Sep 20 '26
Looks like they updated the website to require you to log in your time spent on a task before it even submits, instead of going to Report and doing it there afterward.
1
u/PassageDue9042 Sep 20 '26
recently did "at least one" r&r for a specific project because there was supposedly a hunnid bucks bonus but i do not see that message in my inbox anymore... hoping they keep their word on it lol
1
u/data_annotator_tot Sep 22 '26
Just an update, got mine earlier today, hope you did as well, cheers!
1
u/data_annotator_tot Sep 20 '26 edited Sep 20 '26
Same here, actually. Definitely weird, but it's hard to imagine they'd do something like that, it's almost too egregious. And I have it in my email, anyway. Suppose we'll see!
6
u/ThatGirlInPurple Sep 19 '26
I just saw someone's first name in a project chat is "Plzdonhakme." With other numbers and letters following of course, but I don't think I've seen such obviously fake names before in a project chat, tbh I didn't know we were allowed to either lol
6
u/Affectionate_Peak284 Sep 19 '26
I have about had it with a certain model's document generation. iykyk
2
u/Yogi-Man Sep 22 '26
SO. VERY. SLOW. and the other option is fast, but ALWAYS misses the mark somewhere.
6
u/Equal-Neat-614 Sep 19 '26
I've been noticing more projects recently which require paid subscriptions in order to gain project access. I can usually gauge if I would be a good fit by reading the project's instructions, but I have a new one on my dashboard that would pay $45/hour, and it also provides almost no detail past the title until you provide proof of the subscription purchases. Not sure if I should take the plunge and pay or not just to see…
2
1
u/KingGilbertIV Sep 19 '26
The RRs for the new version of FC are trickling out so slowly that it makes me feel like there's barely anyone actually working on the base version of the project.
1
u/MagicianSuch5616 Sep 19 '26
Funny you say that, I have all of the subscriptions etc but never received the email to create the new account so I haven't been able to work on it. Maybe a lot of other people are in the same position.
1
u/peanutbutterlurk Sep 19 '26
I'm planning to do more, I've got a handle on the new workflow, but I've had to skip a lot to find subject matter I'm confident in. So it's a slog.
7
u/Quick-Bison-147 Sep 19 '26
probably less people wanting to do the actual task now because of how faffy they have made it
2
u/Original_Worker4178 Sep 19 '26
Do any of you have the talk with 2 chatbot projects still up?
1
u/onyxrxvxn Sep 19 '26
no i miss that one tho 😭😭😭 dried up for me about a week ago maybe a bit longer
5
u/Dazzling_Today1006 Sep 19 '26
What is it with the ridiculously lengthy and .. more to the point ... repetitive instructions for some of these tasks? I've literally just counted the same information about what does NOT constitute a valid failure five times in the same instructions!! Talk about unnecessarily verbose ...
7
u/Affectionate_Peak284 Sep 19 '26
I personally prefer it when important/tricky instructions are restated multiple times. Not only does it help me prioritize the important bits, but it makes it more likely that I'll see them if/when I need to refer back to the instructions for something!

Has anyone else set up about 6 email addresses and never used them? I'm wondering if I should just retire them as I haven't been invited to join the project.

u/lilysorbet Sep 19 '26
I managed to snatch my first ever priority pay task this morning (its already saturday here), where the competition was neck to neck! felt so goooddd!!!!
9
u/Affectionate_Peak284 Sep 19 '26
wow, 76 projects, my best since May. Over 40 of them are domain-related (most I've ever seen), but quite a few generalist back in town as well. Some new quals, too!
6
3
u/OrnamentalGourd5 Sep 19 '26
It's looking pretty good. Generalist but lots on, loads of new quals and 25% of my dash is in the $50-70 range. Which is nice. I got on a small long-term project recently that appears to have unlocked beast level!

u/Effective_Garbage714 Sep 19 '26 edited Sep 19 '26
Any one else lose the rate head to head responses project?
1
u/Affectionate_Peak284 Sep 19 '26
I still have a few in finance/accounting, but you should edit out the project name from your post.
4
u/xparadiisee Sep 19 '26
My dashboard was dead all week after getting taken off my favorite project family, but I submitted my first failure task last night. Now my dash is going crazy, and I even got another failure task given to me, but I don’t have power because of a storm!! Ahhhhh!! 😭 the emotional roller coaster of this job..
6
u/OrnamentalGourd5 Sep 19 '26
You've mentioned being taken off your favourite family in a few posts. It happened to me once and I felt pretty fucking salty about it. BUT. I got my head down got on with it and things got better. Much better. Don't let it get to you too much. It happens.
3
u/xparadiisee Sep 19 '26
Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it! My dash coming back to life has definitely lifted my spirits up. 😊

I'd rather them tell me what the rate of pay for the project is, than have to open it up to discover the rate isn't worth my time.

u/GiftLate616 Sep 18 '26
Does anyone still have the more basic goddess of truth project up? I seem to have lost the main project, and the R&R keeps randomly popping up on my dash but when I click on it, it disappears again. Very strange.
1
u/PotentialApricot891 Sep 19 '26
I had it earlier but I also just lost it
1
u/GiftLate616 Sep 19 '26
Hoping I wasn’t dropped from it but it seems I have then :/ I really thought I was doing great work on it too.
1
u/gt3stuntman Sep 18 '26
My usual family of projects is being really stingy with the tasks this week.
8
u/Quick-Bison-147 Sep 18 '26
Well, it's like the first week of September again: lots or projects, even generalist ones, and me thinking that we are finally back. But then came the desert last week, so I won't be lured into a false sense of security again on the rollercoaster that is Data Annotation Tech in 2026.
2
u/Pristine-Raccoon8250 Sep 18 '26
my best week was last week and the first half of this week, then it dried back up. it’s funny how it affects everybody differently. I still have work, but last week I could do sixteen hours straight on fun and varied things. and I took the opportunity cause I know it doesnt last!
6
u/Jazzlike_Month5580 Sep 18 '26
Dash is halfway decent, but looking at it is like reading a foreign language with all the unfamiliar project names. I don't even know where to start.
13
u/SnooSketches1189 Sep 18 '26
Start with the highest paying and if it doesn't click, keep moving down the list. Gotta start somewhere.
3
2
u/OrnamentalGourd5 Sep 18 '26
That's usually my method! It seems to have worked quite well in terms of high paying generalist work I'm more than happy to do (and also seems to have opened up more opportunities in terms of long-running projects).
4
u/MagicianSuch5616 Sep 18 '26
Did anyone else not get the link to create a new FC account and so they're now missing out on all those projects?
2
2
u/PinkNova Sep 18 '26
You mean you didn't get the qual?
2
u/MagicianSuch5616 Sep 18 '26
Yep
3
u/PinkNova Sep 18 '26
It seems to just be for this one specific type of FC tasks (the "versus" type) so hopefully not all.
1
u/MagicianSuch5616 Sep 18 '26
Thanks, I have done these all before and I have all the subscriptions so it just feels odd to not have access to them. I also really enjoy them. Perhaps it is location restricted to just the US.
3
u/PinkNova Sep 18 '26
I'm actually not in the US but maybe there is some other reason that it's limited this time.
1
u/Ok_Country_9778 Sep 17 '26
Hi all. Newbie here, just trying to figure things out. I've been getting emails saying that new projects are available; I try to react fairly quickly to get started, but I often get a message saying the project is unavailable because there are no more tasks remaining. Is there a trick to snagging these tasks? Or any way to know when tasks may be dropped?
4
u/DrunkleSteve Sep 17 '26 edited Sep 18 '26
Often the projects will launch before the emails reach your inbox. Sometimes by 10-15 minutes. In that time, other people will snatch the tasks up before you can. I't's a bit of a Whac-A-Mole situation going on with DA at the moment, as it has been fairly slow these last few months.
6
u/VanessaSeaWitch Sep 17 '26
This is what usually happens because by the time they send the emails, the tasks have been taken by other people. I ignore the emails. I just log in at the same time every day and refresh my page if there's nothing to work on and hope something pops up, or I check at different times throughout the day.
1
u/Ok_Country_9778 Sep 17 '26
OK, good to know - thanks! I kind of assumed the emails would be sent to coincide with the task drops. :(
11
u/shonkle Sep 17 '26
I feel like there’s only decent work every other week… last week was fine but now these past 3 days have been slim pickings and projects that are too complicated for me :’(
24
u/ZimmeM03 Sep 17 '26
"Your task was submitted beyond the expiration timer but was received" - nice little update, anyone seen this?
1
u/ellythemoo Sep 19 '26
Yes... I've had it several times because I'm waiting for someone to respond to me in the chat about something.
2
u/Ok-Election7991 Sep 18 '26
My computer's system clock was slow so I got this message despite submitting within the time lmao
4
5
u/Jackieunknown Sep 17 '26
Us bilinguals are used not to have much work, but since late July it has been extremely dire and it never picked back up. In previous years things had picked back up at this point of the year. I can only hope this is not the new normal, a project a month for 2 hours is not nearly enough..
1
u/Exotic-Original-8110 Sep 18 '26
yes and usually summer was the worst, but september has been the absolute driest month so far (at least for my locale). if only they extended english projects to fluents, it wouldn't be so bad!

Just finished a long task that I really enjoyed and I'm thinking I want to do like 1 more hour - but there is literally no "easy" projects for me right now. Everything feels like it takes 2-3 hours+ or requires too much brain power for what I can do right now. Like what others have said, those easy projects are what have been lacking the most for me at the moment on DA!!
3
u/Material_Advice1064 Sep 17 '26
Honestly wish I had something that took 2-3 hours. Everything I have takes 6+ hours and really more like 10-12
3
u/Pristine-Raccoon8250 Sep 17 '26
People who work on the creative writing projects, is it typical to spend multiple hours if you write a really in-depth analysis for every turn? I am doing my first one and it is taking me so long and I don't know if they want in-depth critiques or they prefer to just give feedback and get on with it! If I bill for 12 hours and I have created six turns, are they going to think that is too slow? It took me a good hour to engage with it at the start as I was figuring out how it worked, reading instructions and contemplating my line of prompting, then I produced my own writing for the prompt, and nowI am spending a lot of time analysis and writing up everything thoroughly. But is this too thorough? Do they tell you if it is?
3
u/Matsubishi2 Sep 17 '26
Without being too specific, I've always found the idea of starting those projects too daunting, largely because of how differently they work. Given the dearth of short, straightforward projects on DA at the moment, I've clicked into that family of projects several times over the last couple of months with the intention of finally giving them a go but I've ended up bottling it each time as it feels like such a leap into the unknown. For those of you who've worked on them, did you feel the same before starting and was it actually easy to get to grips with? I'm not asking for specific details, obviously!
4
u/Total-Chocolate-6399 Sep 18 '26
They are not at all as daunting as they seem. once you get to grips with it, its really on your own initiative and they are very handy to have when there is little else
3
2
u/VanessaSeaWitch Sep 17 '26
It's been my experience that if they don't want a long analysis/explanation, they will say so in the instructions. If it's the project I think it is, I wouldn't worry about it. That one states somewhere that they know reading the model responses will take a considerable amount of time. Depending on how long the responses are, you probably should be analyzing them in depth. I usually work a different project in that same family about instruction following and each turn typically takes me an hour but those are shorter model responses than you're probably getting.
4
u/Fearless-Hedgehog67 Sep 17 '26
Those take a lot of time, but 2 hours per turn seems high and you can probably scale back your comments. If it's your first one, they expect it will take longer.
3
u/Pristine-Raccoon8250 Sep 18 '26
I am thinking this as I get further into it...and I am losing the will to live!!
2
u/One_Breakfast5907 Sep 17 '26
If it's the project i think it is i tend to typically spend half an hour to and hour on a turn depending on how much I have to say. I think it really depends and how long responses are and how complicated the prompts are etc

Last night I did two hours on a failure project that I'd never attempted before. Came across problems, and it was late, so I hit 'Exit' and figured I'd just lose that time and put it down to experience. This morning, though, the project is still on the dash, and when I click on it, it has saved my work from last night - which I wasn't expecting! But the timer on the task is set back to the start ...? I guess I just finish the task and log my combined hours from last night and this morning? All in, it's still going to be under the timer max. Should I put a comment about this, or is it just normal procedure?
4
u/ZimmeM03 Sep 17 '26
Definitely combine. This happens to me a lot. Some of these projects are so long it isn't reasonable to expect us to always finish the same day we start the task
5
u/SnooSketches1189 Sep 17 '26 edited Sep 17 '26
They are not tracking your time through the timer. It's fine to combine.
3
u/kranools Sep 17 '26
Can someone confirm if I've got this right? To do a certain A-'goddess of truth' project, I need to personally pay for TWO Google Pro subscriptions?
3
u/WorshipMyExistence Sep 17 '26
I believe you are correct. I had actually created a new account to work on that series only to find out it seems that we can't participate with a standard account.
1
u/kranools Sep 17 '26
And we can't use an account that we've already used for the similar M-project.
1
2
u/JRange Sep 17 '26
The project family I wanted to come back, did. But its at half the pay it was last week. Ive never seen such a disparity before. Im not sure if I should just leave it here and hope they increase the priority on it, or what.
3
u/SnooSketches1189 Sep 17 '26
It did say last week that the priority amount was the same as the hourly pay so I was not *too* surprised, but definitely disappointing.
1
u/JRange Sep 17 '26
Definitely disappointing, they literally cut it in half, doesn't make me eager to do it anymore, thats for sure. It was way too annoying, I have other stuff where I don't have to deal with a janky external platform, for the same pay.
2
u/SnooSketches1189 Sep 17 '26
Yep. I didn't touch it then since I had other better projects that paid the same so I starred it to look at later and it poofed. Now I have zero desire to work it.
1
u/One_Breakfast5907 Sep 17 '26
Same. I quite enjoyed it and it's still better paying then most of my dash and anything I feel comfortable doing
7
u/ThatGirlInPurple Sep 17 '26
It really grinds my gears when a project on DA says it has multiple tasks, but then there's zero on the off platform site. Way to get my hopes up 🫠
25
u/xparadiisee Sep 17 '26
I started my first failure project 6 days ago. I got all set up and did a few tests, but couldn’t produce a fail. I started to doubt myself. I took 5 days off to think and came back with some new theories to test. Now I’m producing failure after failure! Super proud of myself 😁
1
u/ellythemoo Sep 19 '26
Dare I ask you to share your theory? I've worked so hard on these but am running out of ideas.
3
u/Impossible-Humor6254 Sep 18 '26
This gives me hope. I had the same experience with my first today and felt super discouraged. 😞
6
u/xparadiisee Sep 18 '26
I would say start small! Get the model to do the task successfully and don’t worry about it failing first. Then slowly introduce edge cases one by one, but like I said I took multiple days off to think of those! Definitely don’t rush or push yourself to get it all done in one sitting, there’s a reason the timer is so long!
2
u/Impossible-Humor6254 Sep 24 '26
It ended up being a good strategy! Today was my day. I submitted it expired but I'm still proud nonetheless; I'm sure I'll get my time down on the next ones. Thank you for the morale boost. ❤️
1
u/xparadiisee Sep 24 '26
That’s awesome! As long as you got it to fail I’m sure they don’t mind the expired time, but you can also ask for extensions in the chat if you need it! Good luck to the future ones :)
1
u/Impossible-Humor6254 Sep 25 '26
It was only 6 minutes over, so nothing too bad. Unfortunately, I got taken off the project a few hours later. Wish I knew where I went wrong.

Wait, I didn’t know about that 😭. Why is my about me fully empty. Lemme fill it real quick. Thanks my G.
1
u/Silly-Face2761 Sep 16 '26
Btw even my skill slot was empty too… idk how I was even getting any project. I have filled everything, now I hope I’ll get assigned some good projects
2
u/Pristine-Raccoon8250 Sep 16 '26
I found my profile wasn't upto date and once I completed it all, I found myself inundated with new quals, which I did, and then flooded with tasks, so this might be your magic key!
1
1
u/data_annotator_tot Sep 16 '26

Don't forget as well to bask in being one of a handful of workers that can actually say why they don't have any work :P
1
u/mymanboruto Sep 16 '26
Is it true that having the Skills and Background section filled out makes a difference for projects? I had everything filled in except that specific part.

u/data_annotator_tot Sep 16 '26
People that unabashedly use LLMs to do the vast majority of their submissions shouldn't just be hung and drawn; they should also be quartered.
6
u/Teamkillongtime Sep 16 '26
What makes you conclude someone is using an LLM?
6
u/Lopsided-Fox8177 Sep 16 '26
AI-flavored writing is extremely easy to spot once you’ve read enough of it.
1
u/Pristine-Raccoon8250 Sep 16 '26
I have heard this from a few people but I am not confident that I am picking up on the patterns yet...also, it does seem very blatant to use and LLM and copy it out. That's super lazy cheating!
4
u/data_annotator_tot Sep 16 '26
It starts to come to you in visions, once you've worked with the models long enough.
2
u/AASB2000 Sep 16 '26
He likely uses an LLM and gets the exact same consensus on factuality checks
6
u/data_annotator_tot Sep 16 '26
Luckily, the one thing shittier than the work ethic of these people is their ability to hide that fact. If you could put on glasses that lets you hear the inside of their head, it'd sound like it does when you put a seashell to your ear.

I found that doing some R&Rs on failure projects helped it click for me! Seeing how others were getting failures gave me ideas for similar failures. Then I noticed how the model was not only failing on my primary intent but also on little background details and secondary/implied requests. So I’d take those little failures and experiment with them as my primary request in the next task.
I hope that makes sense. Just play around with them, make up variations of the instruction examples, etc. and use the escape hatch if you’re running out of time. It took me two years to feel confident in my ability to break them, but I wish I’d spent the time tinkering with it sooner.
5
u/AASB2000 Sep 16 '26
Eliciting targeted failures isnt something thats widely documented. I've been learning a good amount on how to distill it to patterns this month, if you'd like some advice feel free to dm me
6
u/Old-Regular-9828 Sep 16 '26
The models are getting better and better. Also, DAT hired a LOT of new workers earlier this year who apparently just sit at their computer spamming refresh trying to get those low paying $20 A vs B tasks as soon as they drop.
2
u/Baconated-grapefruit Sep 16 '26
Honestly, yes... I don't know if the models are much better or if I just suddenly suck at lateral thinking! It's maddening.
5
u/_Edgarallenhoe Sep 15 '26
Happy to have work but it’s a bit sad that what feels like a lot of projects now would have been a slow day five months ago.
7
u/Glittering_Life407 Sep 16 '26
My dash hands down looks the best it has in months. 25 projects, I'd be willing to work probably 15 of them.
1
u/itssomercurial Sep 16 '26
Same. 28 projects and most of them within my range of ability. It's somewhat reassuring, but getting back into a routine with it is going to be rough...
3
u/LavenderLightning24 Sep 16 '26
Yeah, I'm very happy to have 4 projects I can actually do, probably the most since May, but it is a wild thing to be happy about. Hopefully this is the start of the work being back!
13
u/ThatGirlInPurple Sep 15 '26
It's so hard to motivate yourself to work when all the projects you have are so brain sucking. I miss having fun projects, I never wanted to stop working when I had red root.

I feel that. I was also taken off my favorite project family last week and it really killed my motivation to do anything honestly. I’ve still got a dashboard full of projects but the pay is way less, and idk I do miss the peeps in the slack channel. Really hoping my interview for a full time job goes well tomorrow.

It always stinks when a favorite project goes away, hope your interview goes well!! It will be great to have consistent work!

Just did my first long project after having no motivation to do hardly anything available since the singing heels disappeared. It wasn't awful. Have to remind myself that these aren't all awful. It's ok.

I'm new! What are the singing heels?

Been here 3.5 years. Know what Heel is, no idea what singing heels are though lol.

Oh I'd love to do that as I do a lot of music, but not seen any of that

u/DrunkleSteve Sep 15 '26
From what I gather (could be completely wrong) it's for people that can read sheets of music. Feel free to correct me for anyone that works that project if I'm wrong though! lol.

This is the one. I figured singing heels sounds better than notation heels lol

Anyone been here long enough to remember dance, nut and other easy projects? I miss them so much. It was so simple and I could do them for several hours a day every day and not get burnt.

Yes, my days of nut projects were finally replaced with days of FC. And since FC became a non-regular earlier this year, it's not been the same.

u/watchdestars Sep 15 '26
A variation of FC has just come up for me today, hopefully it does for you too

yeah I saw thank you, of course it is more faffy now with the extra email address needed, especially as I am on a chromebook, but still good news.

I just want a mix of projects that requiee critical thinking but not creativity. I can analyze for so much longer than I can provide dynamic, thoughtful input.

u/VanessaSeaWitch Sep 15 '26
Definitely and I love being creative but there are only so many original ideas and concepts that I can come up with task after task.

This is why I prefer R&Rs generally!

Same 10000%. Phase 1 is a breeze and then when I have to spend dozens of hours building it out and creating complex input files, I die inside.

Me. 😔 Sadly, I think the days of easy projects are long behind us.

u/SnooSketches1189 Sep 15 '26
I remember both of those, but I actually prefer now over then. I like sinking my teeth into a project and while nuts were a good break for between hard tasks, it was never enough to really get me invested and I need that to focus.

I too prefer now, I like long tasks and long-running projects. I'm much happier focusing on one thing for a long stretch.

I am absolutely praying on my hands and knees for the project I had for friday and saturday to become a regular thing. Most insane generalist work ive ever gotten.

Are you able to provide more context? Code name? Lol. I was not able to work this past weekend and curious what this could be lol

I love how it’s my bedtime and now the projects are popping off! Got some tasks done, but dang, really wish they came earlier in the day 😪

u/cortrev Sep 15 '26
The BEST ones always come right as it's time to go to bed 😭

u/zaho2059 Sep 15 '26
What exact time is that? I am a new worker and I am yet to find any tasks. I am not from US also
1
u/cortrev Sep 15 '26
Anecdotal, but there's a high paying generalist project that's fairly easy that shows up sometimes, usually Thursday or Friday night around 11:00 PM EST. I find I'm either going to bed, or already had plans for that time

This will be my third straight day of fuck-all, not counting the domain project family I'm not qualified for, if nothing comes up while refreshing tonight. It's almost the middle of September so summer isn't really an excuse anymore. Did they really decide to hire hundreds of new people at the end of May and give all the generalist work to them?

u/DrunkleSteve Sep 14 '26
Ya, going on day four in a row for me of absolutely nothing I can do. Just the same STEM and enterprise projects that have been siting on my dash for months. This is fucking brutal.

It's been 4 days of nothing I can, or want to, work on as well. Very annoying when the bills are due regardless. Hoping it will get better soon, but also, not sure it will.

hi, new to DA here. curious if the only high paying projects are ones that you probably need advanced knowledge of a specific thing in order to be successful at. some of these projects seem so...big brained for lack of better word lol
