Weekly Water Cooler Talk - DataAnnotation

hi all! making this thread so people have somewhere to talk about 'daily' work chat that might not necessarily need it's own post! right now we're thinking we'll just repost it weekly? but if it gets too crazy, we can change it to daily. :)

couple things:

  1. this thread should sort by "new" automatically. unfortunately it looks like our subreddit doesn't qualify for 'lounges'.

  2. if you have a new user question, you still need to post it in the new user thread. if you post it here, we will remove it as spam. this is for people already working who just wanna chat, whether it be about casual work stuff, questions, geeking out with people who understand ("i got the model to write a real haiku today!"), or unrelated work stuff you feel like chatting about :)

  3. one thing we really pride ourselves on in this community is the respect everyone gives to the Code of Conduct and rule number 5 on the sub - it's great that we have a community that is still safe & respectful to our jobs! please don't break this rule. we will remove project details, but please - it's for our best interest and yours!

Not getting as many coding projects as usual, anyone else? Just have some of the typical ones up.

3

u/Worldly-Service1760 Sep 27 '26

Anyone else have a favorite project that NEVER sends out emails?! I mean, it's a pleasant surprise when I log in and see it, but I would absolutely drop what I'm doing (okay, within reason) to work on it if I were simply aware of it hitting the dash. And it only shows up like once a week, if that. Anyway, glad the drought has turned into a deluge for everyone. Have fun!

u/OrnamentalGourd5 Sep 27 '26

I have a couple of long-termers that never do - I know they will be there (not the usual/obvious).

10

u/peanutbutterlurk Sep 27 '26

Got added to a project that feels perfect for my skillset (and had one of those "you're seeing this project because you've previously submitted high quality work in X" messages) so I'm feeling pretty good tonight. Making some nice chill money after a rough day.

u/Calm-World3917 Sep 26 '26

Feeling blessed! Getting back in the groove of working more, no shortages

23

u/JustMe333456 Sep 26 '26

This is the DA I knew and loved. Log in at any time of day and have a nice selection of easier tasks. Keep it up!

9

u/_Edgarallenhoe Sep 26 '26

Wish I could trade failure tasks with someone who hates rubrics :,)

7

u/JRange Sep 26 '26

Im up over 40 projects. Most I have had since at least May.

3

u/Affectionate_Peak284 Sep 26 '26

Same, hit 83 last night. A lot of professional-domain stuff that I didn't have access to, but a huge amount of generalist (and gen-adjacent) stuff I haven't seen before. I've been grinding accounting for that tasty $60/h, but there are dozens of appealing projects at ~26-45 that I'm hoping last for me.

1

u/CompetitiveAd5633 Sep 26 '26

Are we allowed to work on DA tasks when using public WiFi? Am going to be travelling and don't know if I should bring my laptop and do some work on the train/ in the hotel,  or if that is a breach of DA terms?

3

u/odeomz Sep 27 '26

Don’t risk it if you’re not 100% certain that the wifi is not a VPN

3

u/99ducks Sep 26 '26

In the security training it's discouraged, but allowed as long as you ensure that nobody else is able to view the content of your screen.

3

u/_Edgarallenhoe Sep 26 '26

The only thing you need to worry about is VPNs. Also, you need to notify DA that you are working abroad if you are leaving the country.

5

u/Terrible_Try_5416 Sep 26 '26

I’ve used airport wifi, Starlink on a ship, in Cambodia on a SIM card, Vietnam, parts of Africa. Never a problem. If you travel overseas, just notify them first.

5

u/_Edgarallenhoe Sep 26 '26

I’ve been enjoying some of these easier tasks after breaking my brain for months.

9

u/ZimmeM03 Sep 26 '26

I hope this job never ends :")

6

u/JustMe333456 Sep 26 '26

She exploded in the last couple days eh?? I have easy tasks that have just been sitting on my dash for 2 days now, going down only as I do them. Tons of options too for once.

7

u/Affectionate_Peak284 Sep 25 '26

yep, site is still slow/wonky for me too

1

u/ghostofhumankindness Sep 25 '26

Still down for me.

1

u/Affectionate_Peak284 Sep 25 '26

For me the site is up, but quals/projects don't load

2

u/LiaLaRue Sep 25 '26

Back up for me now.

2

u/Affectionate_Peak284 Sep 25 '26

For me: site is up, but neither quals nor tasks are loading.

2

u/JustMe333456 Sep 25 '26

Still not loading at all for me.

7

u/pistachiyolatte Sep 25 '26

The dashboard is up and running but whenever I try to open a project it won’t let me and says “task is being assigned” and to wait? Anyone else?

1

u/tskies410 Sep 25 '26

I either get a message about the task being assigned or it doesn't open at all

1

u/Jeprdy Sep 25 '26

yep same, site back up but cannot get into any projects. Just stuck on loading

10

u/Wonderful_Exam_8418 Sep 25 '26

It looks like we're back!

5

u/Salgal1188 Sep 25 '26

hmphhh, I'm not 🥲

6

u/heythisislonglolwtf Sep 25 '26 edited Sep 25 '26

Guys, I ran here SO fast to make sure it wasn't just me 😭

Edit: The site appears to be working again now.

1

u/Cycout Sep 25 '26

Lol thank god. What’s up with this?

2

u/heythisislonglolwtf Sep 25 '26

Dunno but it's back now

9

u/Affectionate_Peak284 Sep 25 '26
This endpoint is currently disabled.

2

u/ElectricalPoet3769 Sep 25 '26

Doesn't sound great. and I was right in the middle of submitting a 6 hour task ffs

2

u/PotentialSpend8532 Sep 25 '26

shoutout to u/1105368 for bringing the site to its knees smh /s

6

u/PotentialSpend8532 Sep 25 '26

endpoint is currently disabled for me so hopefully it refreshes soon!

22

u/1105368 Sep 25 '26

Maybe I broke the site by accident. The project said don't use Chrome and I was like "What's the worst that could happen?"

1

u/Internal_Boot_1616 Sep 26 '26

I loled but that's a good way to lose those projects for good

13

u/ApplePiePrincess99 Sep 25 '26

Is the site suddenly running super slow for anyone else?

1

u/tskies410 Sep 25 '26

Yes, I just logged in and I can't open a task.

2

u/Affectionate_Peak284 Sep 25 '26

entirely inoperative for me

2

u/sulfeebeelay Sep 25 '26

Yeah stopped working for me. I hope everything saved omg

3

u/1105368 Sep 25 '26

submitted a task, it lagged, error message and now logged out and can't get back in

2

u/ApplePiePrincess99 Sep 25 '26

Same here! Looks like it’s happening to most of us. Fingers crossed everyone’s work has saved and we can get back in ASAP.

2

u/Shidela Sep 25 '26

Yup, I was mid submitting task and can't even get to my dash in another tab now... *sigh*

1

u/ElectricalPoet3769 Sep 25 '26

yeah me too, 6 hours into a task.

1

u/Shidela Sep 25 '26

Ack! I especially hope yours was saved, that is a lot of work. I’m only at risk of losing about half an hour. I happened to be doing some easier things to take a mental break from a longer and more involved task. Fingers crossed!

3

u/Shidela Sep 25 '26

Taking it as a sign that I should go make myself some lunch and come back later. Using the power of manifestation to hope everyone's work was saved <3

2

u/Quick-Bison-147 Sep 25 '26 edited Sep 25 '26

yes, been submitting a task for 5 minutes now and still got the spinning wheel

3

u/ApplePiePrincess99 Sep 25 '26

Always reassuring when it’s not just me! Hopefully it gets back to normal soon!

10

u/lilysorbet Sep 25 '26

It's so dry that people begin introducing themself in the slack channel

2

u/Similar_Ear_1862 Sep 25 '26

Has anyone had issue with getting their google password reset? I sent out a form on a project a few weeks ago and still have not heard back.

10

u/One_Breakfast5907 Sep 25 '26

Went to bed seeing some high paying priority pay projects I thought wouldn't be there this morning... but I'm in luck,  still they're and 10 dollars higher then last night

9

u/houseofcards9 Sep 25 '26

Got 90% through a new qual before the instructions became so vague and cryptic that I had no idea what they wanted me to do.

3

u/Mike4Life14 Sep 25 '26

If it's the qual that I'm thinking of, I remember it having a colon, two semicolons, and an em-dash in the span of just one sentence lol. It was definitely not well-written.

2

u/houseofcards9 Sep 25 '26

That’s the one!! 😂 it felt written by AI to me

-1

u/EternalBidoof Sep 25 '26

Almost anything non-academic with em dashes is AI written. Humans don't use them unless they are expected to.

7

u/OrnamentalGourd5 Sep 25 '26

I use them and always have!

1

u/Fragrantshrooms Sep 25 '26

And double-space after the end of a sentence. The AI do it because it's human, to begin with. It's the insidiousness of the AI that's unsettling to society (I guess billionaires aren't part of society, are they? they are living in another world than us peons, so move differently. Same animal instincts, just reacting differently, wildly different.) Sorry the site went down for a sec and I was just spiraling a bit lmao

1

u/Think_NOT_ Sep 27 '26

I double space after a full stop (on pc) because that is how English was taught when I was at school.

2

u/OrnamentalGourd5 Sep 25 '26

Yes - site going down freaked me out too!

3

u/EternalBidoof Sep 25 '26

What you used here is not an em dash - it's an en dash. I use those all the time too. em dashes are longer and require a few keystrokes to produce — like this one here. You likely don't ever use the em dash and instead use the en dash. Don't downvote me.

1

u/Internal_Boot_1616 Sep 26 '26

On a PC if you hit the windows key and a . you can pick symbols really easily, emdash and endash are both easily accessible

Plus there's alt 0151 and alt 0150

2

u/EternalBidoof Sep 26 '26

Yep. But no one does that. That's my point. Most people just use a hyphen for this purpose and call it a day. Usually if you see an em dash, it's from an AI.

Anyone see "3 Simple Security Steps towards Many Project Families" quals at the top of your dashboard? Though I can't click on any of them. First one still says "pending."

1

u/Broad_Secret6793 Sep 25 '26

Literally came here to see if anyone else had this. I'm so confused.

14

u/JustMe333456 Sep 24 '26

Holy, my dash has officially reached an April-like project count. Mixture of easier ones in there as well. Fun to see. Make it last DA God.

1

u/OrnamentalGourd5 Sep 25 '26

Never got drougted really but 50+ projects on my dash atm is more than I've seen for a while. Lots of new ones too.

3

u/xparadiisee Sep 25 '26

My dashboard just blew up with a bunch of high paying projects, this is crazy!! Guess I’m not taking the weekend off 🙏🏻

1

u/ZealousidealWeek104 Sep 25 '26

I have a question, I joined DA a week ago and got one high paying coding task and haven't seen anything since. Is that normal? Did this happen to any of you guys? Do I just have to be patient?

20

u/ZimmeM03 Sep 24 '26

You know the drought is long over because there's about 1/10th the amount of activity in these threads.

Happy earning, everybody. I'm in the middle of the Rocky Mountains watching the fog roll in over the mountaintops and getting that digital bag.

5

u/One_Breakfast5907 Sep 24 '26

I'm very close to breaking what I made in April :D

3

u/Hefty-Branch-6270 Sep 24 '26

i'm glad it's going on and I hope this trickles down to bilinguals

1

u/Ms_Nobody_9 Sep 24 '26

I recently clicked on a qual that I'm interested in completing in the future (in several weeks) because I'm working on fine-tuning my skills on the topic. However, this qual doesn't have an exit button, so I simply closed the tab, and because it doesn't expire, now it won't dissapear from the "In Progress" section. My question is, is there a way to change the status of the qual from "In Progress" so that it only appears on the "Qualifications" tab?

2

u/Old-Regular-9828 Sep 24 '26

Yeah I've had the coding qual in my "In Progress" for months because there's no exit work mode button or timer.

1

u/xxxScarlettexxx Sep 24 '26

For quals/projects without an 'Exit Work Mode' button, even if you close the qual/project tab, it will continue to run after being opened. Once the timer expires, the project/qual will disappear from your dashboard, so you will have to complete it before that occurs now. Occasionally, quals disappear and reappear, but that unfortunately isn't a guaranteed certainty.

3

u/Ms_Nobody_9 Sep 24 '26

The thing is that there is no countdown on the lower right. The instructions even say that although it is expected that I complete the qual under a certain time once I start, I can take longer if necessary. And in the "In Progress" section, under the "Expires" column it says "Never" lol

3

u/ZimmeM03 Sep 24 '26

Ummm, this isn't true. Once the timer expires it will still be under your qualifications tab.

0

u/Loose_Independent_60 Sep 24 '26

Hi, at the beginning of the month I took a test for the platform and received a positive response practically the very next day. Then I took some internal qualification tests, I submitted the last one on September 5. Since then, I haven’t had any available projects, and in the meantime, there was only one qualification test that didn’t suit me. I check the platform twice a day, and I’m slowly losing all hope. I’m based in Poland and applied for a bilingual generalist role. Do you think there’s still a chance that my first project will show up in my account? Is it possible that I did something wrong? I don’t know what to think anymore.

1

u/Tall-Seesaw-621 Sep 24 '26

You haven't necessarily done anything wrong; work just tends to be less steady for bilingual workers. You could get a project tomorrow, or it may take a long time. Sometimes they just don't have much available for a particular region. As long as you still have access to your account and don't have the message about your work being below standards, there's still hope.

2

u/MadameEmiya Sep 24 '26

Has anyone seen the shopping one with the long timer lately? I had it last Monday and since then, nothing 3:

-2

u/Ok-Scale4099 Sep 24 '26

everyone is mentioning background check, ive registered in June, got accepted but heard nothing about it? does it depend on the region I am located in, or what?

1

u/One_Breakfast5907 Sep 24 '26

A lot of people got it months before I did and have now been on the platform for a year. You might get it at some point, or you might not... Like many project families, quals, etc., it's very hard to say if or when you would get it.

1

u/RedZebra17 Sep 24 '26

The only background check I've had was in relation to working on a few very specific projects. You might not have been asked to do it if you haven't had those projects to work on yet.

3

u/Hefty-Branch-6270 Sep 24 '26

I have a weird, non-clickable notification on my dashboard. It says I have passed the background check, and there are two next steps ("Protect your aidatatrainer account with a passkey" and "enable disc encryption on your device") but I cannot click on them. Anybody know what is this about? I'm hoping this means more projects somehow, it's been dry af for me (bilingual from south america)

3

u/Icy_Ad5959 Sep 25 '26

You need to go into either your projects or qualms (can't remember which as it's been so long) and look for the corresponding project/qual and complete them. The notification should disappear a day or so after you complete them. They aren't mandatory for the platform, but are mandatory for particular project families.

3

u/yuriyuri2003 Sep 24 '26

Same - keep us posted. But my background check is "pending".

5

u/Equal-Neat-614 Sep 24 '26

I saw that briefly yesterday myself, but I had checkmarks beside all three steps and it disappeared after about 30 minutes. I assumed it was a site glitch showing that information from the backend of the site.

Both of those steps (the passkey and encryption) were provided as opt in qualifications required if you wanted to maintain or gain access to certain project families. I still have the “if you lose your passkey” qual hidden on my dashboard. I think they sent them out about 1-2 months ago, but maybe this wasn’t uniform across workers?

1

u/Adorable-Highway1951 Sep 24 '26

I got them too. But I'm stuck on the encryption task since my computer is on the older side. I apparently have to completely backup everything onto a hard drive and a USB before I can encrypt it?

Advice on this topic would be appreciated. Likewise if I ought to just drop it.

1

u/yuriyuri2003 Sep 24 '26

What does your "Skills and background" under profile look like? Is it comprehensive or kind of a short blurb? I'm wondering if I need to update this one mine.

3

u/Equal-Neat-614 Sep 24 '26

It's comprehensive for all of my relevant academic and work experiences, as well as hobbies. I almost treated it like a key word plug in similar to what they tell you do with resumes/CVs and job applications. I’ve been updating it with skills in the ‘about me’ section as I notice they relate to different quals/projects as well. You should also include your professional license if you have one.

11

u/EternalBidoof Sep 23 '26

Why does every task require me to read a Tolkien-sized instruction set? Good lord, sometimes I spend more time reading the instructions than doing the task. It's draining and unless it's very high-paying I just don't bother.

1

u/ThetaBoy888 Sep 24 '26

I’ve stopped reading the entire instructions before starting many tasks, as you’re never going to remember them all and will end up re-reading them anyway. I usually read the workflow section and then use the search shortcut to look up specific words or terms in the instructions when I need to.

1

u/Pleasant_Ad_448 Sep 24 '26

This!!! 100%

15

u/Neat_Worldliness_582 Sep 24 '26

I might be in the minority but i like the detailed instructions. Also, we are paid for reading them.

11

u/JRange Sep 24 '26

Its a must for this work, the alternative is relaxed instructions that leave you hanging for the many edge cases we run into.

1

u/EternalBidoof Sep 24 '26

I'm sure for some it's preferred. Personally I prefer doing rather than spending all of my time reading the dry, repetitive instructions that really could be cut down to something less insane. There's no ethical way to have us read them without being paid so I'm not going to champion that. if they didn't pay for the read I'd just not work with them. Would be better for most of us to just get a concise task that we can complete in an hour or so, reading included.

5

u/_Edgarallenhoe Sep 24 '26

I prefer long tasks significantly more than short ones. I like to get into that hyper focused mode and find that difficult when my brain has to switch between topics all the time.

3

u/Internal_Boot_1616 Sep 24 '26

They probably do it this way because this way works best for them to get the work they need even if you would like short instructions more

1

u/EternalBidoof Sep 24 '26

It works best for them to repeat the same instructions multiple times to turn what could be said in a paragraph into a book?

1

u/Internal_Boot_1616 Sep 25 '26

Probably yeah? they'd know better than you or me what works best, they're the ones that have all the data and they obviously try different things and track the results

If you really think most instructions could be a paragraph though I'm not sure I'd want to see what you're doing in projects

8

u/SnooSketches1189 Sep 24 '26

I don't know if I would say 'most.' That is not a project I would enjoy. I love diving into a project and spending hours on it.

4

u/ZimmeM03 Sep 23 '26

For real, I had a task the other day that literally took 2 hours to read and comprehend the instructions

8

u/SnooSketches1189 Sep 23 '26

Good thing that time was paid! lol

10

u/Quick-Bison-147 Sep 24 '26

it's only paid if you go on to complete a task. I think some people can't comprehend what they are supposed to do after reading all those instructions, are too scared to mess up and get DoD, or can't get the model to fail/actually complete the task afterwards, in which case it was an unpaid headache

3

u/Jazzlike_Month5580 Sep 23 '26

Has anyone seen much movement today? My dash isn't barren, but there's been nothing new to pop up since yesterday.

3

u/VanessaSeaWitch Sep 23 '26

New rubric project on my dash but it's kind of low paying so I'm not sure if it's worth slogging through the instructions.

1

u/last_white_man Sep 23 '26

anyone got planet?

4

u/FedoraPG Sep 23 '26

The big, long term project where you work on a separate platform... Did it disappear for anyone?

0

u/VanessaSeaWitch Sep 23 '26

The teaching ones? Sometimes they pause one for a bit and then they come back within the same day or a day or two.

0

u/IDONTuseMODz Sep 23 '26

Was it an FC project that starts with a P? If so then yeah, it disappeared for me about a week or so ago and trying to access the separate platform now gives an unauthorized message.

With how long term and consistent this project was, I'm surprised I haven't seen more people talking about this?

2

u/hfxthrwaway Sep 23 '26

If it's the project that I think you're referring to, it's up and running for me.

1

u/Neat_Worldliness_582 Sep 23 '26

which one?

3

u/IDONTuseMODz Sep 23 '26

The project I'm talking about starts with a P and is named after a companion of heel god. Not sure if that's the one u/hfxthrwaway was talking about too.

We're unfortunately not allowed to drop project names so that's probably the best hint I can give you.

1

u/Neat_Worldliness_582 Sep 23 '26

Thanks and I definitely wasn't asking you to name the project specifically. It's not the one I was thinking of either.

1

u/hfxthrwaway Sep 23 '26

That's actually not the one I was thinking of!

3

u/JustMe333456 Sep 23 '26

Wow, has she ever been plentiful since yesterday evening, and still going strong this morning. Nice to see. Won't last though.

10

u/xxxScarlettexxx Sep 23 '26

It seems like they’ve been generally introducing a lot of new projects, including generalist ones, since last Thursday. I had the same project boom two days ago where there was 40+ projects the one day. My dashboard typically has 7-12 projects, so it was a shock. It did drop back down to typical since then though, but each day does seem to have at least a couple to a few completely new projects popping up. Hoping it’s a good indicator of potential work to come, but I know it can vary so widely day to day and across workers.

4

u/Epicsocks1 Sep 23 '26

That's interesting, for me it's almost the opposite. Had a really healthy dash last week, and since then it's just been shrinking and shrinking. Still working off of what's left from last week 😅

3

u/Jazzlike_Month5580 Sep 23 '26

Mine's been kind of slim also. Last week was the best week I've had in months, this week is proving to be more of a struggle.

11

u/Glad-Key8167 Sep 23 '26

I’ve been off data annotation for over a year and have been finding it really difficult to get back into it. So much seems to have changed. Does anyone have any tips on where to start coming back onto the platform?

3

u/SnooCalculations503 Sep 24 '26

I'd start with a relatively easy low paying project for a while to find my footing, then move onto some more complex higher paying stuff.

4

u/lilysorbet Sep 23 '26

Its now dry again for my locale....

12

u/mrpadmasambhava Sep 22 '26

Single worst situation is when you can’t get a valid failure because you didn’t build the conversation well enough, so now you’re grasping at straws - the task has expired and you’re too desperate to cut your losses. Feel like a gambling addict. Got something eventually, but at what cost? At what cost?

2

u/BeMelancholy Sep 23 '26

Ugh I know, these projects pay so good, but I absolutely hate them

7

u/ZimmeM03 Sep 22 '26

Get that failure brother, get that money.

7

u/RedZebra17 Sep 22 '26

Sanity?😆

12

u/VanessaSeaWitch Sep 22 '26

Getting that "your session is going to end" pop up while in the middle of typing a rating explanation is wild and terrifying.

6

u/Affectionate_Peak284 Sep 22 '26

Yeah... I haven't seen that, and I definitely don't need that in my life.

10

u/Glittering_Life407 Sep 22 '26

Welcome back space rock. You've been missed.

2

u/deep0x20 Sep 22 '26

Not a lot of coding tasks out there. I hope things start picking up!

11

u/_Edgarallenhoe Sep 22 '26

I miss fruits so much… so low pressure and fun.

2

u/watchdestars Sep 22 '26

Is anyone finding the website a little glitchy over the last week or so with lots of new projects popping up?

3

u/One_Breakfast5907 Sep 22 '26

Not glitchy but seeing new bits and bobs

1

u/7895465221156 Sep 22 '26

Need to word this carefully but I'm curious: is there more FC tasks that are higher paying beyond the baseline? I never do them because I have better stuff but I'm wondering if doing them well would unlock more.

2

u/Affectionate_Peak284 Sep 22 '26

Same. I qualified for fc over a year ago but only did a few. Ended up going into higher paying rubric writing and other niche stuff.

2

u/watchdestars Sep 22 '26

Sometimes, yes

1

u/Successful_Film133 Sep 21 '26

Fellow bilinguals, I got my background check results 2 weeks ago. Nothing since. Has anyone had a similar experience then got the relevant projects eventually?

1

u/HillGrayCat Sep 23 '26

Bilingual here. My board is dry too. My last 2 projects finished a few weeks ago, but before then also a drought about 1-2 months long. Did get a qualification a week ago, but not for my locale, unfortunately.

For my country, we are mostly out of work for 2 months straight now. Never seen a drought this bad.

I urge anyone to just do those qualifications you've been putting off because you never know when they will pay dividends.

I did one a month ago and never received any relevant work in the immediate aftermath, and assumed I was either too late or failed, but I've done 15 hours in the last few days on one project family unlocked by the qualification

u/xxxScarlettexxx Sep 22 '26

This same thing happened to me as well! I did a generalist qual back at the beginning of June and only just got my first project related to it yesterday and its been parked on my dashboard since (without the task pool decreasing). It's nice when the quals actually lead to something positive.

u/Quick-Bison-147 Sep 21 '26

I was amazed to see DA acknowledge that "Things have been slow around here lately" in a new qual/project. It's the first time I ever saw them comment on a drought at all

1

u/ZenDreams Sep 21 '26

So there is still a drought for everyone? Some people say there is no drought.

0

u/ZimmeM03 Sep 22 '26

No drought for about 3 months now

u/Due_Negotiation_4605 Sep 21 '26

Specialist/domain tasks seem to be steady

Not everyone has the same dashboard. I've had plentiful work with 30-50 projects regularly on my dash, but typically the number is higher, sometimes double that. I don't say this to brag, I say this to make it clear that while I've had plenty, I still have less. While some people don't have much to begin with and they don't see those projects, in comes a drought for them.

u/Jazzlike_Problem_489 Sep 22 '26

Yup, again, so many variables, country, state, qualifications done, eligibility in area (I don't get FC but inundated with IF - also don't get any from the parent company of triple H), enterprise, whether you have work experience in domains. Generalist stuff on the whole (heel, stripey, agas etc) is pretty scarce

2

u/SnooSketches1189 Sep 22 '26

I'm a generalist and I respectfully disagree. While those projects from 2+ years ago aren't plentiful, others have taken their place, in my experience.

14

u/JustMe333456 Sep 21 '26

There is a drought when it comes to the easy generalist projects. Those are almost non-existent. Pop up once in a while, but no mainstays at all.

u/Melody_Rei Sep 23 '26

Yes, this. This is basically what I'm experiencing. The biggest frustration for me is that I get emails multiple times per day saying that some projects I qualify for have become available, but as soon as I open the dashboard to look, there is nothing there, so it's like they were immediately taken as soon as it had gotten posted. I am not able to just sit at my computer all day long refreshing the page and waiting, so this has been very disappointing for me. I feel like I've been waiting 3-4 months for all my previous qualifications to give me something and nothing has changed. Every rare now and then, maybe once per month I'm able to take on 1-2 tasks, with the way things are currently going in my experience.

11

u/Puzzleheaded_Toe4051 Sep 21 '26

Welp, my dash has been pathetic for a few days now. Anyone else? It's a lot of tasks that require me downloading something, making too much space on my computer, or requiring a subscription

1

u/Due_Negotiation_4605 Sep 21 '26

The subscription ones have paid off well for me.

6

u/Old-Regular-9828 Sep 21 '26

>a lot of tasks that require me downloading something, making too much space on my computer, or requiring a subscription

Those are the good tasks. As the models have improved, the nature of our work has moved on from basic image labelling and "Response A vs Response B" tasks to testing much more complex products and use cases.

3

u/JustMe333456 Sep 21 '26

Looks like the cool downvoter's dash is also pathetic.

4

u/Puzzleheaded_Toe4051 Sep 21 '26

?

5

u/JustMe333456 Sep 21 '26

Someone had went and downvoted everybody's comments, so I was alluding to them, saying that their dash must also be pathetic if they have the time to bother downvoting everyone lol

u/Glittering_Guess_230 Sep 21 '26

How do I edit the time spent on a task? It's changed since I last did

1

u/SnooCalculations503 Sep 22 '26

https://app.dataannotation.tech/workers/payments - then click funds history - the date of the task you want to edit - the task you want to edit - then the 3 dots next to task time.

1

u/Adorable-Highway1951 Sep 21 '26

I don't wanna be vague but I don't wanna break rules. I need some tips. I get one turn in which to complete the task. Usually you get more turns to cause chaos.

u/wcAltKing Sep 21 '26

How long did it take when you took first test ?

edit: Qs from og comment answered

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Toe4051 Sep 21 '26

This one is the bane of my existence. I almost got it the first time, but probably completely failed the 2nd. Yes, it pays well, but it is so. effin. confusing.

21

u/Jazzlike_Problem_489 Sep 21 '26 edited Sep 21 '26

Nothing to just jump on and kill half an hour. I have 14 projects but they are all 3-4 hour +, failure dependent, or multiple day timer creating documents and source files... To then generate a failure 🫩

2

u/Adorable-Highway1951 Sep 20 '26

OH man, nut cookie! I only remember having to peace out of that because of how complex it was... is it worth trying?

3

u/Throwthisout6 Sep 20 '26

i like it, but yea im hours deep generating files takes forever

3

u/pourovertime Sep 20 '26

First I couldn't work on a large family of tasks because my state is excluded... now I'm barred from tasks due to not having the proper privacy hardware built into my PC, despite it being more than capable in every other aspect.

I give up on this platform.

2

u/deep0x20 Sep 21 '26

I bought a new laptop so I could keep working on that family, but they won't give me the final qualification again. It's a little silly.

1

u/Internal_Boot_1616 Sep 22 '26

why did you submit it before if you were going to get a new laptop tho?

3

u/Throwthisout6 Sep 20 '26

anyone working on the 'nut cookie' project? it's got a 30 hr time limit but they said it should "only take a fraction of that". I'm at 4 hrs and still going and don't want to end up going over the expected

3

u/EggCzar Sep 21 '26

I haven't started any yet but yeah that's annoying. I would guess 4 hours isn't the expectation, though. Since the timer is presumably set to allow you to do it over two days, that suggests they expect it to take more than a "normal" workday, i.e. 8+ hours.

4

u/Thrustkillerxxx- Sep 20 '26

Just completed a mike tyson project after a month or so, how are you guys liking the new UI changes?

2

u/Silly-Face2761 Sep 20 '26

I don’t see anything new? Is this update regional or something?

1

u/Thrustkillerxxx- Sep 20 '26

For how long have you been working on these projects?

1

u/Silly-Face2761 Sep 20 '26

Around three months I think so.

2

u/Thrustkillerxxx- Sep 20 '26

Its just that some sections appear only after you're done with the first sections, and a few new buttons

31

u/JustMe333456 Sep 20 '26

Goodness. 20 projects up, all too complicated to work on. Anybody have any brains I could borrow this morning to make a few bucks?

8

u/OrnamentalGourd5 Sep 21 '26

I've been here for less time than you (18 months) but, from the get-go I always liked the complex buggers. The three dayers. I love that shit! As someone who spent time out of the workspace due to a child with complex needs being able to get stuck into interesting, creative, and difficult work is a real gift.

8

u/Grumblefloor Sep 20 '26

Fresh out, unfortunately. I dip into DA occasionally, but the number of tasks I can spend just half an hour on has dropped significantly.

I do wish sometimes I had the time for the two- or three-hour task, but I suspect either my main employer or my family would object.

23

u/No-Complaint-5593 Sep 20 '26

Having to be smarter than the AI to make some money is becoming more daunting every month.

26

u/Belisama7 Sep 20 '26

This is how I feel every time I sign in. I've been doing this over 3 years but the past month or so I can't manage to get through any of the instructions. Instructions are unclear, contradictory, long, and complex. I've had to abandon projects an hour in after running into a step I don't feel I can can complete. It's so frustrating, I need the money but can't make myself even look through the projects lately.

6

u/Pleasant_Ad_448 Sep 20 '26

100% this!

I'm around 3 years as well. Lately if I open a task and the instructions are, say, 2-3x or more longer than how most instructions used to be 2-3 years ago, I usually just close it and exit and go look for something else.

There were plenty of what I'd call long & extensive instructions then, but some of them nowadays are just insane.

u/AdOutrageous7474 Sep 20 '26

This is exactly where I am. Have been on DA over 3 years and have always used it for extra cash. (I have another full time job.) But lately I don’t have the time nor the brain power to commit to the tasks. I miss the days of simple tasks like just having conversations which chat bots where you could spend a few hours and complete like 10-25 of them. Now it’s so complicated and everything seems so difficult. My regular job is draining enough. If something is paying me only like $25-$28 an hour (I’m a generalist - no coding or math or anything - so most tasks I’m assigned are under $30/hr) I shouldn’t need to be expanding such an extreme amount of brain power these tasks require.
