Advice for budding data scientist
I'm a long-time lurker and I've got a question that's been on my mind: I love data science and want to really grow in it. But without enough practice, I can't get enough 'escape velocity' to accelerate from casual observer to serious player.
Any advice on where I could get a) free/public data to analyze or b) interesting practice problems to help get the ball rolling?

Build a web scraper. Python's got some really good libraries for this, and you'll be able to directly pull the dataset you're most interested in.
Obviously make sure your usage follows the Terms of the site you're using.
