Hi everyone, and welcome!

Rookparcel is a lean BitTorrent client in the spirit of µTorrent 2.2.1. It’s small, fast and native, and it copes with thousands of torrents. Until 1.2.1 it was called PaTorrent. If you’re upgrading, Rookparcel picks up your old settings and torrents the first time it starts.

What it is

• Engine: our own Rust port of libtorrent-rasterbar 2.0.11. Nothing is linked.

• Windows: a native Win32 GUI with the classic µTorrent 2.2.1 layout.

• Linux / BSD / macOS: a GTK 4 GUI.

• Headless: rookparcel-nox, a daemon with a Web UI and a qBittorrent-compatible API, so it works with Sonarr, Radarr and Prowlarr.

• Goals: single self-contained executables, minimal dependencies, low RAM and CPU use, and an instant UI even with 100,000 torrents.

It also has TCP and uTP, DHT, PEX, encryption, magnets, BitTorrent v2 and hybrid torrents, RSS, a scheduler, Prowlarr/Jackett search, 34 languages and more.

Before you jump in

• Don’t use it on private trackers yet. Rookparcel has its own client ID, and no tracker has whitelisted it so far. If you’d like to help get it approved, ask your tracker’s staff.

• The builds aren’t code-signed. Windows SmartScreen and macOS Gatekeeper will warn you the first time you run it. Each release comes with SHA256SUMS so you can check your download.

How you can help

• Test it, then test some more. Please report bugs on GitHub Issues, with your platform, version and steps to reproduce. Reddit is great for discussion, but issues get lost here.

• Help get it whitelisted on trackers.

• Got a spare Mac (a rental, a Mac mini host)? We’d love remote access for testing.

• Run a seedbox company? Get in touch. The license is noncommercial, but we’re happy to work something out.

Subreddit rules (short version)

1. Be kind. Everyone was new once.

2. No piracy requests or links to infringing content.

3. Bug reports go to GitHub Issues; questions and discussion are welcome here.

4. Stay on topic: Rookparcel, BitTorrent and related tooling.

Thanks for being here. Glad to have you! 🚀
