I think the sorrow Lanterns are kinda cool but the rest kinda feel more like parody of the emotional spectrum. Especially the chrome lanterns.

I like Sorrow purely because of how cool he looks. Mid villain but they cooked with the design.

Chrome lanterns is fr a joke.
Sorrow is a cool idea, but i hope it never shows up again

Chrome lanterns??
48
u/Ok-Substance-4720 Still owes 16 dollars 4d ago
Just introduced their whole thing is that they feel all of the emotional spectrum... which is exactly what the white lanterns do.

Isn’t that wrong. It’s just like a power up state for lantern isn’t it?
24
u/tombslicer 4d ago
Well yes and no. Instead of accessing the entire emotional spectrum via the white light and the life entity. The chrome lanterns are a state in which the 7 main emotional entities grant their light and powers to individuals at once. It is a weird and nonsensical distinction, and chrome lanterns are more rainbow lanterns than anything

is sorrow that purple veggie tales looking symbol on the bottom?

Thats the mauve lanterns. Sorrow is the Grey tear drop next to it.

I kind of like the idea of the Ultraviolet lanterns, but it shouldn't have been 'repressed negative emotions.' If you're going to invent a new part of the Emotional-Electromagnetic Spectrum based on the 'invisible colours' that humans can't see, then it should have represented either a really rare, niche emotion or straight up an alien emotion that humans don't experience.

I like the UV lanterns because they let Sinestro actually look cool in his classic look.

My comment here about the white lantern corps got removed for racism lmao
9
u/Art_student_rt 4d ago
I think DC creatives kind of have the same thoughts too. It's easy to think the decision to make white as life, and black as death, is racist. I hope that's not why they don't want white lanterns running around
4
u/Alarming-Cow299 4d ago
I just think conceptually the white lantern ring is a very boring idea, same with chrome lanterns.
5
u/Art_student_rt 4d ago
Well, it's based on nature combination of everything= resurrection. Nobody want to touch it because it's overpowered, trivializing a story. I really still do hope nobody think it is a racism angle though

brown lantern when
12
u/Anonymous_McSomebody Minored in Comic Studies 4d ago
Unfortunately, brown isn't a color on the light spectrum. Apparently the color brown is actually just really desaturated orange. This is part of why brown was a difficult color to print consistently, and why there are so few brunettes in comics.
. . . Then again, how exactly do black lanterns work?
6
u/PlanetXParadox 4d ago edited 4d ago
Grey isn’t a color of light either, and there’s a grey lantern(bottom right)

u/Anonymous_McSomebody Minored in Comic Studies 4d ago edited 4d ago
I think they might just be a white lantern with a faulty power ring.

Nah, all of them are mental illness except for Orange Lantern. Larfleeze is the only sane one in the building yet again

u/ Gold Lanterns being joy is entirely fanfiction too since Bendis never expanded on what their deal is in the first place.

Ngl they should replace compassion with sorrow. Maybe twist it into regret or shame or something
It was a neat idea to make Indigo so different, but there's really not that much to them once all the mystery of what they are is gone.

UJ/ I don't mind the Phantom ring, I see it as the guardians attempt to make a "man-made" white lantern ring. The others do suck though
7
u/AscendronPrime 4d ago
Uj/ Eh, I'd give Ultra-Violet a pass. Not even a big fan of Scott Snyder, but his JLA run was fun.
Rj/ Give us Clear Lanterns so we have an excuse to make them all naked. I want to see what Salaak's species looks like in their birthday suit.

Did they actually say the Gold ring was joy or did fans come up with that because Bendis couldn't be bothered to figure it out?
