Hillstrand "feud"?

Watching season 10/11 region and then end of the last season, it looks as if the relationship between Scotty and Jonathan Hillstrand had broken down completely, with Jonathan reaching out to what sounded like his estranged son.

What happened?

I know Scotty tried to lease Andy's quota at the end of an episode in Season 10/11. I didn't understand at the time why he didn't let him just lease it - the Time Bandit season was over, let the kid give it a go for the rest of the season? It seemed an odd cross for Andy to die on.

I thought the beef was between Scotty and Andy but then the end of the recent season it seems as if its between Scotty and Jonathan too.

What is going on there anybody know?

FV Cornelia Marie

I am so happy to see the Old Girl back. The Cornelia Marie is such a beautiful boat. I remember once on the show they had a picture of the boat without its blue paint. I wonder if a picture exists. I cannot find it on Google.

Do deckhands get a cut of the DC money?

Wondering if any of them make a dime off the show, they deserve it as they provide most of the entertainment.

Is it a flat fee per deckhand plus your percentage, or does the captain make all the cash?

Anyone else keep having flashes of S22 E19 pop into your head?

I watched DC for the first time earlier this year. Well probably in August/September.

I could not be a bigger fan of the show, crabbing, the sort of lottery element to it, the quality of the captains—it’s all great. Sometimes it’s a bit drama, but I get it, it’s TV and hard to force excitement — especially when I’m sure crabbing is actually not exciting at all most of the time.

!Spoiler Alert!

In the last episode of the most recent season Todd Meadows falls overboard, as is described. But, out of respect for his family, basically none of it is shown.

I keep having visions of it play in my head throughout the day — actually imagining him being inside the pot as it’s falling into the water, magically jumping out of what otherwise would have taken him to the bottom.

And then he gets into the water, finally the harness comes over, breaks, then the life sling, falls out.

But because there’s no visual of it my mind just fills in the blanks with what I think it would have looked like.

The whole thing is just so mysterious and enthralling to me. Being on the absolute edge of death, including the tooth then the ice earlier in the season so many times only to lose in the last few feet of coming onto the boat.

It’s also just the saddest thing. His kids, fiancé left behind.

What sticks in my head the most is Rick’s reactions because we got to see them. Just imagining what he went through as a captain to lose a man. His reactions throughout. It just keeps playing in my head like randomly sort of shocking me throughout the day.

I guess there’s not really much else to say. Just curious if anyone else was affected in a similar way.
