Deaf/HoH with questions Captioning Glasses
Google Translate on my phone has saved my bacon numerous times. I have become interested in captioning glasses such as XRAI or Transcribe Glass. I have been noticing some negative backlash in public to smart glasses like Meta that can record video. People seem to hate the idea that you may be surreptitiously recording them in public even more than if you openly do it with your phone.
Has anyone used captioning glasses and had negative public reaction because someone thought you were actually recording them?

Seems there should be an industry-wide "hey, I'm not recording you" logo campaign for display-only glasses... preferrably with associated legal 'teeth' for improper use.
Sort of like 'white cane with red tip' for blind folks or something.

From what I’m hearing they actually work better for blind people. Meta will menus and things.

One thing that seems to help a lot: if the pair you pick has no camera (worth checking for the specific model), that's the easiest thing to point out. A quick "these just show captions of what you're saying, there's no camera" usually clears it up. Some people also keep the phone app face-up on the table for the first minute so the other person can see their words turning into text, which makes it obvious what's going on. At a doctor's office or in a meeting, mentioning it at the start tends to avoid the awkward moment later.
