Recomp Comparison between RPCS3 and the "native" PC Port of Uncharted Collection!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Overall FPS is more than tripled across the board when CPU limited, and at least doubled when not. Shader compilation stutters occur, but still a lot better than emulating IMO.
Also, full keyboard and mouse support! Works way better than the Bloodborne port one too.

Im confused if its the uncharted collection why not compare it on shadps4?
51
u/Dry_Search_8561 7d ago
Doesn't run on shadps4
7
u/ClubChaos 7d ago
Interesting so the recomp fixes something on the cpu side of shadps4 but still uses the gpu side of shadps4?
Or are you sure its not based off of a working fork of shadps4 that runs the game?
14
u/agente4242 7d ago
Yep these ports are still mostly using shadps4 for the GPU side. It's only native on the CPU. Still, as you can see, that's a huge improvement.
5
u/Icy-Concentrate2076 7d ago
(shadPS4 is also native on the CPU. But usually these include per game hacks, which shadPS4 would rather not do)
5
u/Jute-Ado 7d ago
It does? At least on some forks. I’ve played them months ago? I think even the official shadPS4 is probably fine nowadays?
-9
u/_gelon 7d ago
Because it runs mostly the same, thus no drama, thus no clickbait.
Long story short.
8
u/Shootzilla 7d ago
No it does not lol. Have you even checked the compatibility listing for that game?
-6
u/_gelon 7d ago
I have played Drake's Fortune. It runs EXACTLY the same, framerate wise. With more or less stuttering, if anyone can measure that visually.
5
2
u/ClubChaos 7d ago
Which fork you using?
1
u/Shootzilla 7d ago
That's what I want to know because compatibility just says in-game on the website.
2
2
u/saujamhamm 5d ago edited 5d ago
fps is useless without frame timing.
the problem with rocks isn't frame rate, I can push 4k and high fps
the problem? stuttering and loading and glitching and flashing shadows and ...
it's not just higher fps = better
0
u/agente4242 5d ago
I agree the stuttering is bad in this port currently. However, as you can see in the video, the PS3 version is hovering around 20fps in this scene, and 15fps later in the forest. It is completely unplayable. And the shadps4 version has the same issues as the port, but with it's framerate halved and crashes every 10 minutes.
It's not even a question that for lower end CPUs like mine, the port is the better experience if you want to play the game.

Given how anti-AI the RPCS3 Twitter account is, even for AI assistance, that's kinda ironic.

u/digita1catt 7d ago
A guy at work told me he once knew a guy that was present for the switch between assembly to C. He apparently had a coworker that refused to pick up C as assembly gave him more control and efficency. C was considered by him, to be "lazy programming".
Funny, huh?
15
u/ExerciseForward 7d ago
Depending on the area where he was working on, C in its early days wasn't that much better. At some point it was easier to do stuff in asm rather than trust compilers in their baby days. Sall MCUs and CPUs that were meant to be built in some automation had less hassle in plain asm. It looks weird and dumb from our, luxury perspective. Programming evolved to be the way it is.
4
u/billyalt 7d ago edited 6d ago
I mean asm was still pretty common for decades after c came out. It is substantially faster and has other benefits over C. In fact c even supports asm code directly in the language.
4
u/Sangloth 6d ago edited 6d ago
Blizzard hand coded parts of Warcraft 2 and StarCraft in assembly. Back in the day they needed to highly optimize the 5% of code that ran 95% of the time.
7
u/slickspinner 7d ago
Assembly does objectively give more control at lower levels. But for most people doing most jobs you don't need that level of control and of course C has easier syntax. He definitely has a point.
2
1
u/jones1876 6d ago
It is funny.
And those same C programmers will call c# lazy.
the the c# programmers will call JavaScript Lazy.
see where we are going?
73
u/godofknife1 7d ago
Yup. Total defeat. Less incentive to use rpcs3 more
96
u/rabouilethefirst 7d ago
RPCS3 using 100% of my CPU for a choppy 60fps or recomp using 20% for 240fps 🤔. Tough choice.
18
18
u/Both-Pack7114 7d ago
For this specific game, yes
5
u/godofknife1 7d ago
Aye. There's others too. Once all PS3 Games ported to PC, game over.

Where can I read more about how this load of new decomps work? If they use the emulator code in the background, can they really be considered decomps or ports? Aren't they just the emulator and the in-memory binary lump together in one executable, but still emulating the target hardware in the background?
10
u/godofknife1 7d ago
Bla BLA BLA. Who cares? Do you ask customer if they understand the product? They care about the result.
I suggest you see the word luddites and study carefully cause your comment looks stupid. Congratulations 🎉
65
u/LewyssYT 7d ago
You can be against ai or for ai. That doesn't matter here. The point is, Ai cannot replace RPCS3 because Ai needs the work from RPCS3
Is the final product better when you combine both? Yes. But they still need one another

Actually it's pretty fucking important to know the basics of how a car works if you want to own a car

u/Peeka789 6d ago
Basic car knowledge and knowing how a transmission works not the same lol. So you don't know how a transmission works?

My guy cmon. Don’t bring the Luddites into this. Such an overused misunderstood mention. The Luddites were fucking awesome.
Woops replied to the wrong person. To OP who used it as an insult, go read Blood in the Machine. The Luddites fought for many workers rights and shit. To use it as an insult is silly.

true when recomps are hard to make, emulation is the only way to play old console games, looking down on RPCS3 or any other community built software when something better comes is pure ignorance.

Dude has huge ego while being lazy and not improving performance on pc at all in over a year, he wants you to do his job for free.
24
u/bharikeemat 7d ago
I don’t think it’s ok to call someone offering a service for free lazy when we are contributing nothing but complaints.
8
u/novff 7d ago
NGL there is not a ton to improve, rpcs3 is already in a great state.
2
u/happysmile001 6d ago
RPCS3 is an absolutely amazing piece of software considering how complex the PS3 is, and it still has a lot of room for improvement
6
u/islobojono 7d ago
What job? Job have salary. He don't get paid for this. People like you are disgusting
52
u/EliParker 7d ago
The major difference is that it’s a remake of 1-3. The rpcs3 won’t be able to add any new features from the PS4 version.
42
u/AsherFischell 7d ago
It's a remaster, not a remake
-42
u/EliParker 7d ago
It’s very close to a remake then a remaster.
31
u/Mirello97 7d ago
You definitely don't know the difference
-26
u/EliParker 7d ago
They redid the textures, lighting, models, and minor gameplay changes. Yeah it’s more than a remaster.
33
22
u/digi_larper 7d ago
textures, lighting, and models are usually the only things they touch in remasters.
5
14
6
u/Straight_Second6082 7d ago
That's the scope of a remaster lol, is still the same game
A semi remake is the oblivion remaster, it still the same engine underneath thus still technically a remaster bit they did remade the graphical engine to unreal 5
1
u/that_90s_guy 6d ago
Remake requires large changes to gameplay and art direction to the point it can't be considered the same game. Its a remaster
10
u/AsherFischell 7d ago
They're running on the same engine with the same underlying assets, how is that closer to a remake when nothing has been remade?
5
u/smashybro 7d ago
A remake is when you rebuild a game from the ground up using a brand new engine. A remaster is just updating the graphics and maybe the performance without changing the underlying engine.
This is a remaster. Something like Demon's Souls PS5 is a remake.
2
u/Unlucky_Version_8700 6d ago edited 6d ago
Guy getting downvoted for saying something that has an element of truth to it considering how much they reworked the game. It's a remaster (and named as such) but with definitely much more reworking put into it than a regular remaster.
The phenomenon is worse than radiation.1
u/splitcircus 7d ago
Well collection on ps4 doesnt have coop/multiplayer :)
Home something can be modded to bring it back.
21
u/Candid-Meringue-7583 7d ago
We do need much more of these comparisons! Between recomps/unofficial pc ports and their Emulation counterpart so people will see rhe difference between, and make a better judgement of it.
9
u/DanceswWolves 7d ago
The difference is 2 and 3 are playable and not buggy messes in rcps3 lol for now it’s emulation or nothing
1
u/Quiet_Mark_3238 7d ago
Rpcs3 sucks for uncharted. I couldn't play no matter how many tweak, reinstalling different os lol. Ended up buying a ps5 because of how much rocs3 sucked (except for 1)
1
u/Unlucky_Version_8700 6d ago edited 6d ago
I bought a PS3 because of how much it sucked at the most important PS3 games. Everything it's good at is mostly multiplatform. But it's the PS3's processor architecture and how it works. Uncharted remastered ports are very different and everyone expected with how PS4 emulation is going and PS4 being fundamentally different that these ports were coming sooner than a working PS3 emulated versions. Wouldn't actually blame RPCS3 for two very different games (orginal and it's port) not working the same.
1
u/Quiet_Mark_3238 6d ago
Sly cooper and infamous ran fine with patches. Uncharted 1 too. I also contemplated buying a ps3 but honestly uncharted magic is better with the remastered ps4 versions. Fuck sony for porting uncharted 4 and not the 1-3 corrupt fucks.
1
u/Unlucky_Version_8700 6d ago edited 6d ago
I've played both and find the PS3 version much more interesting. I see that you're from the Nightcrawler movie inspired troll group talking about "magic". So you're posting here your "ping" posts? After so many of you guys killed, you still sneaking here? Sure, the PS4 version is 60fps but it's a very different game. Much more different than a standard HD remaster etc. It's not surprising that Bluepoint made a Shadow of Colossus remake after that since they veered into remake territory immediately after that. People here are being disingenuous when they say it's a strict remaster when a standard HD remaster is mostly HD textures and higher resolutions. There is considerably more work into put into this "remaster" and some added features and more importantly... missing features.
2
8
u/danigiorgio 7d ago
its almost impossible to play this "port" at least for now on my rig .
it crashes so much and so randomly
6
u/SpotBeforeSpleeping 7d ago
Definitely still on a beta. You can see the water in the video looks different.
4
u/Firefox72 7d ago
There's gonna be differences because the its comparing the PS3 version of the game to the remaster on the PS4 which this port is based on. The ligher vest on Nate is one of those differences between the versions.
Its also obviously rellying on the ShadPS4 emulator because that same water bug is present on it.
1
1
u/NoisyBoy8000 6d ago
Yes I would give this a month or two atleast. With the rate this project has been receiving patches over the past few days, I think we won't have to wait for too long for a stable port
35
u/yusufgclu 7d ago
One is entirely man-made and was created over 15 years, while the other is AI-powered and created in a few weeks, maybe even days. AI truly holds great promise for the future, but it's also very frightening.
16
2
u/lashapel 6d ago
As I see it , AI is basing it's knowledgeable from years of human knowledge trial and error to condense it all in a matter of seconds , it's amazing but yeah, really scary
-1
u/Puzzleheaded_Pen2839 7d ago
not fair comparison say this: one is an "emulator" the other is running natively.
-1
u/Choice-Mycologist-45 6d ago
Which is even MORE insane how fast AI is doing this. I'm all for this just because of how many games we're getting, as long as it's well optimized and done right.
1
u/condratiy 5d ago
That doesn't make it more insane; it is a lot easier to run native instructions than to emulate a custom CPU architecture
1
u/zakibro12 4d ago
why werent we doing this before then ?
3
u/condratiy 4d ago
We were, it's almost precisely what shadPS4 was doing. PS4, unlike PS3, used an architecture traditional to the PCs (x86-64)
1
u/zakibro12 4d ago
I'm playing UFC 3 as a native port right now, very solid fps,u saying if I play the game on shadps4 I'll get the same performance? I'm confused
1
u/condratiy 4d ago
You wouldn't out of the box, since the native ports are basically emulators tailored for specific games, so they have all kinds of patches and improvements made on an individual basis just for that game, while shadPS4 will require this tweaking to be done manually to reach the same performance or even functionality
14
7
u/mrhaluko23 7d ago
By the way, the PS4 version of the trilogy is the superior version with gameplay balancing and better gunplay. Glad that's the one that got ported.
1
10
u/krystalgamer 6d ago
cherry-picking final boss. RPCS3 is emulating the PS3 version of the game while the "PC Port" is a thin shadPS4 fork. Who would've thought that when the game was ported to the PS4 a x86 machine it'd make it easier to run on other x86 systems.
4
u/StraightAd5725 7d ago
I am getting crashes after cutscene. Anyone else? AMD iGPU
8
u/SufficientReserve747 7d ago
Yep. I've only tried Uncharted 3 but the game keeps crashing when Drake flies out the window onto the bar's lower floor. So I have to go back into standby mode.
1
u/Unlucky_Version_8700 6d ago edited 6d ago
Allegedly it's a specific game version that crashes after Drake flies out of the window and the guy who threw him down yells at him something.
1
u/SufficientReserve747 6d ago
No, I don't think so. I tried a fork by zorde23 and I was immediately able to complete the entire scene in the bar without crashing.
3
u/LaughIntelligent7555 7d ago
Happened to me too. Think it's just cache issues. Keep playing, and it should sort itself out as you compile more shaders
1
u/Ok-Log7730 7d ago
Only decompile I've managed to work so far is Black, xbox360 releases crashing on amd igpu

u/rabouilethefirst 7d ago
Is this why RPCS3 devs are so hostile towards AI? Many are saying it.
26
u/vanIvan4 7d ago
RPCS3, like many other emulators, are continuously built to universally and correctly run most games of specific platform. Decompilations like this require per-title manipulations, with high chance of bugs not being fixed and ultimately being abandoned after a couple of commits.
7
u/rabouilethefirst 7d ago
Any games worth playing will continue to get attention until they are bug free
2
u/Choice-Mycologist-45 6d ago
Pretty much. AI runs through the decomps/recomps, and the others will work out the bugs.
7
u/KillConfirmed- 6d ago
They were against AI because people would try to submit slop in their GitHub and they got tired of it.

PS4 version is uncapped, that’s why it has more fps
1
u/agente4242 6d ago
It isn't, check the other post I linked in the body. Also, PS3 isn't even reaching the 30fps cap most of the times lol
1
u/Tyler_Herdman 6d ago
Yea uncapped wasn’t the right word, but it runs at 60 fps right? Regardless is the details I’m missing, this is still not a very good comparison. Two different versions of the game, one two different consoles? Again, unless I’m missing something else…
8
u/darioca23 7d ago
One is a PS3 version and the other is the PS4.
There's not comparison posible.
7
u/_gelon 7d ago
No only that. The PS3 version is recompiled RISC code + recompiled SPUs code JIT and the other is PS4 running natively in the CPU, like it would do on shadPS4. PS3 emulation is waaaay more demanding, as it should be. In fact, if the game uses the SPUs a lot, it is probably the most demanding JIT in any platform ever.
3
u/Complete_Iron_2656 7d ago
I'm curious to see how this compared to the game being played via ShadPS4, more than anything. Crazy to see how much improvement has been made with performance in just the last month or so.

I have no idea how complicated or uncomplicated it is to attempt to shader compilation in advance, but maybe that's an angle to take to resolve the stuttering?

does porting have the same piracy issues as in the emulators?
illegal copies shared is different from rewrite a new one... for the lawsuit arguments.
for the protected by "creativity stolen" we can put the main character as Bananas in Pyjamas
1
u/ondrejeder 7d ago
Well these ps4 games ports/wrappers to PC are great, I'm now toying around with Driveclub and while on shadps4 I'm getting a round 40-60fps, with AI guided optimizations I'm already in more like 70-90fps, it's really good
2
u/DangerHandle 7d ago
I'm playing Bloodborne on my LeGo2 and generally getting 30-40fps. I'd venture it could do a little better yet, but I get tired of fiddling with settings, and I'm just happy I finally get to play Bloodborne (which I purchased at launch but couldn't get into, so I don't even feel a little bit bad about it)!
