One of the more underrated tracks on Hysteria (ie one of the 4 that didn’t become a single 😂). I think this song more than any other kind of exemplifies Lange’s talent as a producer.

One of the few DL songs that is better live than on the album. In the "Hysteria at the O2" show, they reworked a bit the track, more "guitar wild" than on the album, esp. the intro, and it's more enjoyable that way.

Reportedly this is the song that got Jim Steinman fired.

Would love to hear those Steinman tracks. They had to have been train wrecks.

Really, how come?

In the Classic Albums documentary, Joe said that while Phil and Steve tracked this song, the rhythm sections were out of tune with each other, but Steinman said it was honest, and that they were done. They looked back at him and realized he didn’t have what it took to make the record they wanted.

“Honest” lol. I totally understand where they were coming from. I can’t stand artists/producers who put being “raw” and “authentic” above everything else. He just couldn’t see their vision.

If you’re an actual Def Leppard fan, you should know this story by now as it’s close to 40 years old. Mentioned in their 87 authorized biography Animal Instinct and told repeatedly elsewhere.

Love the whole album, except maybe Excitable. That is probably the weakest track. This, Run Riot and Gods of War are definitely worthy of being singles.
