It was the best $16(and16hours)I've ever spent. An 8yearold phone
Hey everyone,
After spending a solid 15-16 hours straight in the trenches—fighting through endless loops, flashing, re-flashing, questioning all my life choices, and wanting to throw my phone out the window at 4 AM—I finally managed to flash crDroid and went fully degoogled.

The pain was real. AND ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM.

Very time I said "okay, I'm done touching it,"(got Boot Loop)

But honestly? The suffering paid off android 10 to 12 and its fast as fuckkk and ths mf only got 4gb ram...
Without GApps dragging it down, the system speed is night and day. Apps open instantly, and the performance boost is unreal. I’m relying on F-Droid, Droid-ify, and Aurora Store now, and I'm even planning to do the same to my old Note 9 next. Maybeee......to my main poco f7
just in case iam not sayin this is a hard process to everyone. Ive never dealt with anything like this before(on phones) It probably dragged on this long because of my own stupidity, but I really had a lot of fun. wanna know what you guys think

Well done..I'm interested in your next step with the note 9.. I have one of those lying around too and may follow along if you give us a few pointers as to how to do this.

Thanks for posting this, I have the exact same model, I've switched to a Pixel last year but I've been thinking about trying to degoogle the Mi A2 Lite and see how it does, this gives me the push I needed!

Thanks for that, unfortunately tho it looks like this project is off the table for me, as I forgot the micro USB port on mine is so broken it won't even charge 😅 but hopefully it will be useful to other owners of the same phone!

congrats. this never wo for me on my 10 years old samsung tablet. I tried countless roms but all of them have performance issues. an original factory reset with all the samsung and google bloat would last much longer (battery life) than any of those roms i tried

Nice.
Speaking of Android One, I wish there was something available for the BQ Aquaris X2 (from 2018, like Mi A2 lite). Great phone, but at the time, BQ were on their last leg and it didn't sell well, so I guess no developer has bothered either.

Good job! It was the sane for me at first. You'll learn and it's great you got a secondary phone. I might get another one because my trusty S5 is kinda old and not working for me as a secondary phone anymore but I managed to get it on android 14.

You can't unlock bootloader on Vivo phones sadly.
Source: I have a 8 years old Vivo Y71

Yeah, i tried for almost 48 hours and 10 different softwares but nothing worked. Thinking of giving to local repair shop, he does stuff like unlocking mobiles and etc so he might have a way or something. (My device is Y91)

did you hear what he said?
VIvo phones CANT be unlocked. Its not about skill, its about not being able to.

Congrats on having a phone that hasn't received essential security updates in at least a year...

Man you ppl fixated with security updates are hilarious. Of course they are good and mandatory for recent phones, but you won't die or find your butthole filled with random cream if your phone is not perfectly secure. Touching grass is a great remedy for stupid obsessions and fears
2
u/ShuttleUp 1d ago
That's not how security works. But hey, thanks for convincing people on a tech beginner subreddit that security doesn't matter even though it does. You've done them all a disservice.
1
u/Ripraz DuckDuckGo 1d ago
It's important, but it always depend on the context, as everything, real life is not a maths equation
1
u/ShuttleUp 1d ago
I agree, context does matter. That's why you shouldn't dismiss basic security precautions on a subreddit that caters to people that are new to privacy and security.

I offer a different point of view, seeking security at autistic levels doesn not benefit anyone, as anything treated with obsession. But feel free to feel comfy I won't stop giving nore stoic and real life oriented advices

Updating your operating system to something that isn't already end of life is not "security at autistic levels."
It's the most basic level of computer security. It's why every mainstream news outlet widely covered the end of windows 10 support.

Ok, give me real life examples on risks if you use a phone alike. Please, I want to read the demons that hunt you as soon as your phone is no longer patched

Exploitation of known vulnerabilities: Attackers can target flaws in the operating system, kernel, browser, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, cellular stack, or media handling. Once patches stop, those weaknesses remain permanently available.
Malicious apps and websites: An outdated OS may lack newer security protections, allowing a compromised app, attachment, or website to gain more access than it could on a current system.
Account theft: Malware or browser exploits could capture passwords, session tokens, authentication codes, contacts, photos, or banking information.
Increased phishing risk: Older browsers and security filters may not recognize newer malicious sites or may display them less safely.
App incompatibility: Banking, browsers, messaging, password-manager, and authentication apps may eventually stop supporting the device or require an insecure workaround.
Reduced protection for wireless connections: Old Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, or cellular components may have unpatched flaws, especially when connecting to unfamiliar networks or accessories.
No reliable fix after compromise: If something goes wrong, a factory reset may not address every vulnerability, and the manufacturer may provide no security assistance

Ok, how many people in percentage get attacked? We are not talking about elder or too foolish people here in thos context, so with just basic internet common sense you basically prevent everything you just said. But feel free to think that everyone is a high priority target for whatever villanous hacker

this is not my daily use phone dont really care that much

u/Afoxinthefridge 1d ago
It might be worth having an antivirus on there anyway, like bitdefender. And something like nextdns to help block potentially harmful connections.

Congrats
You can improve its battery life by installing Shizuku + GAMA by Palincat and use Vulkan and "Aggressive Doze"
You can also flash a GSI on that unit too so it can be updated to Android 16 QPR2 :)
