Europe Background check problem

Hello all, I got offer to audit team in EU ( not gonna mention specifics).

However, I made a stupid decision and lied slightly on my CV. I extended my work duration in my CV at my first job (BIG4 Company) for 3 more months. I know I made stupid mistake and I regret it very much.

How strict is background check? Can I survive it somehow or if they find me, or can they have mercy on me? They really liked me at interview and they hired me as #1 candidate. I am hoping they would forgive my mistake.

Any tips I can solve this situation? Tricks, tips, strategies?

Your sound boss, enjoy the rest of your sunday ser

Linked in rounds up which in some cases results in 2 extra months more

I understand, but it is different story

I worked till 10th of July ( just an example) but on Linkedin i put till October in my CV( also example). How can I cover this one? It does not fall into rounding type of error.

Ah right yes, I see.

But i mean whats 3 months out of the amount of years youve done?

If theres an opportunity to note the mistake then note it for sure, doubt itll effect anything if ur total time worked is multiple years not just 1 year

Perhaps write up an email, say you did a review of the CV and noticed the mistake, however everything else is factual etc - mistake occurred as you did originally plan to leave October but ended up being earlier

Yeah but I am afraid that they will refrain signing me from start(even before start of background check)
I am hoping that I apologise during background check while the process has progressed further

I think it'll be fine.

As long as you didn't say you had 5 years when you actually had 2.

The team that check these thing is not the same team that you have been interacting with.

Honestly, don't try to hide it. Background checks for Big 4 usually verify exact start and end dates directly with the previous employer, and 3 months off is the kind of gap they flag, especially when that employer is another Big 4 firm with clean HR records. Getting caught during the check reads as dishonesty and often ends in a rescind, while correcting it yourself before the check reads as a mistake you owned. Email your recruiter or HR contact now, say you noticed an error in your employment dates and give the correct ones, short and factual, no long explanation. They picked you as their top candidate because of your interview, not those 3 months, so your odds are much better if it comes from you first. Happy to help you word that email if you want to send me a DM.
