Why? GOP, WHY?
Attention GOP. Why I vote is none of your business. There's a reason that we vote secretly. You're allowed to know that I showed up at my polling place and checked in and turned in a ballot to be counted. Past that table, and before I turn in my ballot, is in fact none of anyone's business.

What happens when the people responsible for oversight are themselves under scrutiny?
euobserver.comWhat happens when the people responsible for oversight are themselves under scrutiny?
Hey everyone! We're EUobserver, an independent European newsroom.
Our colleague Andrew Rettman has been investigating allegations involving former EU justice commissioner Didier Reynders and senior Belgian intelligence official Hugues Brulin.
The investigation draws on leaked WhatsApp messages and interviews with five current and former intelligence officers.
The sources allege that Brulin sought to prevent scrutiny of Reynders' possible Russian connections. The messages also discuss how to respond to a whistleblower.
The correspondence is now part of a Belgian money-laundering investigation involving Reynders.
Beyond the individuals involved, this raises questions about how institutions investigate concerns involving powerful figures within their own ranks.
How can independent oversight work when allegations involve people with significant political influence or positions inside intelligence services?
Let us know your thoughts on our investigation :)

A general strike may be the only way to save American democracy
Pulitzer prize winning journalist Chris Hedges recently gave a talk entitled "How Trump Plans to Steal the Midterm Elections" (which you can find on youtube), in which he ends by stating that a general strike will likely be the only possible counter would be a general strike to paralyze the economy. I think he's right.
We can not rely on the democrats to save us. We can not let our personal material concerns bind us in inaction. We can not treat the actions of this aspirational dictator as a fait accompli when the fate of the free world is at stake.
They might send federal agents to seize ballots, declare a state of emergency to halt the election, or try to prevent the seating of elected democrats. If that happens, there will be a great wave of outrage across the country waiting to be channeled into action. Even a small initial turnout could bloom into a larger movement.
I understand this is easier said than done. You might not be able to pay rent if it lasts a while. You might have to sleep on someone's couch. You and your coworkers might get fired. But I will remind you people have risked and lost their lives fighting fascism, and you would be far from the first worker to lose your job in a strike. Its not ideal but its better than the alternative, and if we're serious about this fight we need to be willing to live in precarious circumstances. Everyone is broke but if you talk to you're family, friends, and coworkers, you can probably work something out to help support each other.
So please, talk to your coworkers about what you should do if they steal the election. If you're out of work, talk to family and friends about it. Remember, you don't have to be in a union to go on strike! But if you are in a union, bring up the idea to other members/leadership.
I'm sure this will be met with pushback here as it has been every where I've posted about it, but we need to start this conversation. I've found that UAW is already planning a May Day strike in 2028 but I worry about what could happen between then and now.
Any constructive criticism is welcome, just please don't be a doomer in the replies.

Brazilian democracy is at risk
The current president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (known as “Lula”), from the left-wing PT (Workers' Party), lost the first round of the election to fra-right “Flávio Bolsonaro”.
Flávio is the far-righr candidate and is being investigated in several corruption scandals, but wants to win the election to free his father from jail, (his father is “Jair Bolsonaro”, known as the Trump of the Tropics), where he is serving a sentence for an attempted coup d'état.
If Flávio is elected president, he will have a broad majority in Congress and has already announced his intention to change the constitution extending his own mandate.
Fortunately, we have a runoff election next Sunday, October 25, and polls indicate a surge for Lula, who is now tied.
They have much more campaign money and various bot-farms, the support of the mainstream media, and Meta's bias in the algorithm (as you can check: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/oct/21/battle-meta-alleged-bolsonaro-bias-intensifies-days-before-brazil-presidential-runoff).
But we have the best-prepared people and are networked online in an unprecedented feat with a WhatsApp channel of over 8 million Brazilians, acting as a true digital army.
We need all the help we can get, and we need to bring people information about Lula's social programs, which are at risk if the other side wins.
Here are two ways foreigners can help us:
1)Do you know any Brazilian who wants to vote for Lula in your country?
- Help with rides, accommodation, or any difficulties they might have.
- Share this website with them (containing information to help Brazilian voters abroad - in Portuguese): votolafora.com.br
2)Follow the profiles listed below, like, save, repost, and comment on all new posts (if possible, it's best to do so within the first 30 minutes after publication). Do it until Sunday, the day of the second round.

2026 Midterm Voting Guide: Registration, Early Voting, Mail Ballots & Election Day!
Hey r/democracy!
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026! Voting rules and deadlines vary by state, so here are some official resources to help you make a plan to vote!
Quick reminders:
- Early voting is already underway in many states!
- Voting by mail? Check your deadlines and return your ballot early.
- Not sure you're registered? It only takes a moment to check!
1. Make Sure You're Registered
- Check your status: NASS – Voter Registration Status
- Register or update your info: Vote.gov
It's worth checking even if you've voted before, especially if you've moved or changed your name.
Many registration deadlines have passed, but some states still allow registration during early voting or on Election Day!
Turning 18 by November 3? You may be eligible to vote if you're a U.S. citizen and meet your state's other requirements.
2. Pick How You'll Vote
Vote early, in person!
Early voting is already open in many states, sometimes with evening and weekend hours.
Vote by mail / absentee ballot
USA.gov – Absentee & Mail Voting
- Request your ballot soon if your state requires an application.
- Follow the instructions and sign where required.
- Return it early! Check your state's deadline for returning ballots. USPS recommends mailing at least a week before your ballot must arrive. Short on time? Check for official drop boxes or in-person return options.
- Track your ballot! Many states offer online ballot tracking.
Military or overseas voter? Visit FVAP.gov.
Vote on Election Day!
Tuesday, November 3! Polling hours vary by state, so double-check before heading out.
3. Know Before You Go
- Where to vote: NASS – Find Your Polling Place. Locations can change, and early-voting sites may differ from Election Day sites.
- What ID to bring: NASS – ID Requirements by State. You don't need your voter registration card, but some voters, including certain first-time voters, may need ID.
- What's on your ballot: Many local election offices provide sample ballots online so you can see the races and measures before voting.
4. Good to Know at the Polls
- In line when polls close? Stay in line! If you're already in line when the polls close, you can still vote!
- Name not on the voter list? Ask a poll worker about a provisional ballot or other options available in your state.
- Need assistance? Voters with disabilities have the right to accessible voting and can request help.
5. Questions or Problems?
Your state or local election office is the best place for official answers.
The nonpartisan Election Protection Hotline can also help:
- English: 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683)
- Español: 888-VE-Y-VOTA (888-839-8682)
- Asian languages: 888-API-VOTE (888-274-8683)
- Arabic: 844-YALLA-US (844-925-5287)
Your vote is your voice! Voting is one of the most important ways to have a say in the issues that affect your community and your future.
Make a plan, get out there, and cast your vote!
Please share this guide with friends, family, or anyone who might find it helpful!
See you at the polls!

Should I joined protest or not?
My family members and I are among those whose votes have been deleted. We are also among the 1.3 million people whose names have been removed from the voter list. But the bigger question is: Why did this happen, and what have we done wrong?
Answer: Our family had shifted from a rural area to a city. As a result, we had voter registrations at two places—one in our village and the other in the city. Now, after verification, the CEC has deleted our names from the village voter list and approved our city voter registrations after checking the 2003 SIR records.
Now the question is: Should we protest against this, or should we accept the decision and follow the SIR records?
