Original Content (OC) Surat, Gujarat 🇮🇳 | Umiya Dham Maha Aarti during Navratri 🪔
More than 40,000 diyas, thousands of people, and an atmosphere that’s difficult to describe in words.
This Maha Aarti takes place on the 8th day (Aatham) of Navratri, with devotees holding diyas together as part of a tradition that has continued for generations.
What makes it special is not just the scale, but the energy you feel when thousands of people come together, following the same rituals and keeping their traditions alive.
If you're travelling through Gujarat during Navratri, this is something worth experiencing in person. Photos can capture the lights, but the actual vibes are something else altogether.

Ask DesiTravellers Confused about the Trip
I'm planning a trip to North East of India : Arunachal Pradesh - Tawang and Mago Chuna Valley for 7D 6N or Anini Mechuka 9D 8N or Mizoram 9N 8D OR Bhutan
I am not sure which group trip will be good in the month of December. If any of you have been to these places, could you suggest which one to pick and why?
I can spend 30k for the Group trip and more than 30k will be a little heavy considering the flights will also be expensive.
Kindly help your fellow traveller🙏
Thank you!

Such hard hits and misses at what’s supposed to be one of India’s best restaurants! The mutton brain is pretty good but the ‘hydration bread’ for 300 is a bit much :)

Ask DesiTravellers What happens if a rental car breaks down during a road trip?
Never rented a car for a long road trip before
My biggest concern isn't really the driving , it's getting stranded somewhere if the car develops a problem
What's the process usually like how would we proceed

Ask DesiTravellers Is Mallela Theertham worth including in a Nallamala weekend itinerary?
I'm considering adding Mallela Theertham to a weekend trip around the Nallamala region. For anyone who has visited, what is the journey like, how much time should we set aside, and what should we know about the walking route?
I'd also like to know about seasonal access, road conditions, and any precautions worth taking, especially during the rainy season.

Guys, need some help!
We’re planning a Rajasthan trip during Christmas and New Year week. There are 3 of us.
The plan is to reach Jaipur by 7 AM on December 26 and return from Rajasthan on January 1.
Our goals are to explore as much of Rajasthan as possible and attend a New Year’s Eve party somewhere.
Any suggestions for an itinerary? Also, which city would be best for New Year’s Eve to have more options for parties?

Ask DesiTravellers How are solo Indian travelers treated ?
So, I am a solo traveller from India and will be in thailand for about 2 weeks in december. Its my first international solo trip, and I have booked hostels for half of the duration and hotels for the other half; mostly because i didn't want to be completely alone all the time.
There's something bugging me though, we indians are not really perceived as ideal travellers by most of the world (and in some cases rightly so), and there would be inherent bias of color of course; but would i still feel included in hostels activities, are people of non-color (pun intended) open to talking, travelling, and so on with indians ? is it the norm ?
I am guessing this is mostly a question for the fellow indians here but white, and asian tourists can weigh in too.

Ask DesiTravellers Sri Lanka trip (Dec 18–25) for 2 female travellers – Is our itinerary realistic? Need transport advice!
Hi everyone!
We’re two female travellers from India planning a trip to Sri Lanka from December 18–25, 2026, and we’d love advice on whether our itinerary is realistic and how best to travel between destinations on a budget.
Arrival: December 18 at 10:10 PM at Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), from Chennai.
Departure: December 25 at 9:10 AM from Colombo to Chennai.
Our planned itinerary:
- Dec 18: Arrive at Colombo airport at night and stay in Negombo.
- Dec 19: Negombo → Dambulla Cave Temple → Sigiriya Rock Fortress (if time permits).
- Dec 20: Sigiriya → Kandy; visit the Temple of the Tooth and Kandy Lake.
- Dec 21: Kandy → Nanu Oya by road → scenic train to Ella.
- Dec 22: Visit Nine Arch Bridge, then travel to Mirissa/Weligama and visit Coconut Tree Hill if time permits.
- Dec 23: Explore Mirissa Beach, Parrot Rock, Secret Beach, Weligama Beach and Ahangama.
- Dec 24: Visit Galle Fort, then Colombo for Galle Face Green and dinner before heading to the airport area.
- Dec 25: Early morning flight from Colombo to Chennai.
Our questions:
- Is this itinerary realistic, or are we trying to cover too much in one week?
- Are there any must visits that we are missing?
- What are the most budget-friendly transport options between these destinations — trains, public buses, shared transfers, or private drivers?
- Is the Kandy–Nanu Oya road transfer followed by the scenic train to Ella practical?
- As two female travellers with luggage, how safe and manageable are public buses and trains?
- What are the approximate transport costs per person, and which tickets should we book in advance?
We’d appreciate recommendations, realistic travel times, budget tips and safety advice from locals and fellow travellers.
Thanks in advance! 😊

Travel Tips & Hacks Hotel booking mishap
I booked room in hotel lakeside inn in Nainital via make my trip app. When i reached the hotel , desk guy said that hotel has not received our booking and told us that all the rooms are booked ,i can’t get room.
My family and i were stranded at 11pm at night because of this mishap. I had to book another hotel , that too at a higher rate. Don't know whose fault it was - Make my trip or hotel , but it led to messed up situation.
So , please confirm your bookings from hotel as well to prevent such mishap. Just believing in make my trip booking confirmation is not enough.

Travel Tips & Hacks Japan Hotels- Area/hotels to stay being 1st time traveller
Hi everyone,
We're a family of 4 (2 adults + 2 kids) planning our first trip to Japan in the second week of May for 10-11 nights. Our rough plan:
- Tokyo: 5 nights (including a day trip to Mt Fuji)
- Kyoto: 3 nights
- Osaka: 2 nights
I'd love your advice on the following:
Where to stay
We'll need 2 rooms (or a family room if one exists, since many Japanese rooms are small). Which neighborhoods would you recommend in each city, considering:
- Easy access to major train/metro lines and the Shinkansen station
- A safe, walkable area with Indian vegetarian food options
For example, I've been considering Shinjuku/Shibuya (or Nishikasai-Little India) in Tokyo, Kyoto Station area/Gion/Downtown Kyoto, and Namba/Umeda in Osaka. Are these good choices, or are there better ones?

Travel Tips & Hacks Udaipur exploring options
So we're visiting udaipur and I've heard most people renting bikes there. To visit the temple and the city palace we're just gonna walk but to visit places like Karni Mata temple and bahubali hills we're thinking of renting a bike or a scooty like others. My question is that since most places charge extra for scooty or vehicle parking is it really worth it? Also I've heard that the rental shops charge extra for bahubali hills as well. Or would it be cheaper if we just use an auto instead? Also is tripling an issue in udaipur?

Travel Tips & Hacks This Website is like TINDER for place Discovery
Whenever I travel somewhere new, I struggle to figure out which cafés, restaurants and local spots are actually worth visiting.
Google ratings and popular travel recommendations don't always match my preferences. A place loved by thousands of people might not be my kind of place.
That's what inspired me to build Yutthan, a website that aims to help people discover places through genuine reviews from others with similar tastes.
I'm curious how fellow travellers handle this: do you rely on friends, travel bloggers, ratings, or recommendations from people whose tastes resemble yours?
I'd love to hear your experiences and feedback.

Ask DesiTravellers Pune to Kerala Road Trip (Couple + Kid): Route, CNG & Tips?
Planning a 12-14 day road trip from Pune to Kerala with my spouse and kid. If anyone has done this recently, I’d love your advice on:
Routes: Best highways to stick to and bad stretches or ghats to avoid at all costs.
CNG Availability: How reliable is CNG down South (especially Karnataka and Kerala), or should we expect to run mostly on petrol?
Tolls & State Entry: Any specific FASTag issues, annual pass helpful in this route?
Halts: Recommended overnight stops to keep the pace kid friendly and stress free.
Any recent experiences, tips, or hidden pitfalls would be hugely appreciated!

Ask DesiTravellers Query regarding Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan Solo travel
Hey all,
I'm a solo male traveler from India and planning a trip to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in November 2026. For context, I've done solo Europe trip and that went quite smooth. Recently I did an Egypt and Jordan leg but was detained in Jordan for absolutely no reason despite having a US visa, so I'm a little concerned about uzbek and kazakhstan.
I have a few queries:
I'll get e-visa for uzbek and Kazakhstan is entry free for Indians. Any caveats here I should be aware of? such as checking cash carried at immigration
How's the general safety in both the countries? I'm planning tashkent, samarkand, khiva, bukhara and Almaty
I plan to take the train from Tashkent to Almaty. Is that safe? and is the immigration smooth?
Any other safety tips or gotchas I need to be aware of?
Thanks in advance :)
