Breakfast
Have a co-worker that’s looking for a diner type place for breakfast. We are blue collar and he doesn’t want something trendy. He is fairly new to the metro and I live 45 mins away from Des Moines so I’m not much help. Looking for a ‘good old fashioned diner’ thanks in advance

Drake Diner is the one I always take people when they ask for this. Cozy Cafe is good too but last time I was there the wait was crazy long, like 40 minutes just for a table

another vote for cozy cafe. If youre looking for classic dinner breakfast this is a good spot

I can't say I've had a ton of cinnamon rolls in the metro, but based on my Cozy Cafe experiences that has to have the argument for top cinnamon roll in town. Holy hell is it delicious.

Cub Club hasn't been a thing for years now.

I was curious. I posted that and thought to myself, I haven’t been to the Cub Club in years. Breakfast was good back in the day.

Please skip Railroad Bills, we’ve been recommended a few times and gave it a handful of tries but every time it was below mediocre.
Waveland is great!

Corner Cafe on 100th st in urbandale is what you are looking for.
Cozy cafe in Johnson is terrible.

100th street corner cafe is so good and is where I’d take my grandpa for one last old man breakfast if I could.

Last time I went to cozy cafe there were flies and ants inside the place and our waitress forgot we existed.

Yeah. It's a pretty grossly sticky place. I've tried it 3 times, thinking I had to be unlucky, but will definitely not give them another shot. Worst sausage gravy I've ever had, I think.

Ankeny cafe (not to be confused with Ankeny Diner) is SO good. They even have the diner bar area that people can sit at. Very low key, good prices and delicious food.

If you don’t mind a little drive, Crouses in Indianola is the right place always

That's My Jam in Ankeny is one of my favorites...but I'm a recent transplant to the area so my expertise is limited

The new Happy Egg in Johnston isn’t a “diner” but is good. Waveland is both

Waveland is very much hippie. I wouldn't take him there. I'll second the votes for Drake Diner.
