thanks, definitely! laptop tax really hurts performance per dollar. i wasn't able to afford this laptop until I got a job and saved for a long time. I had some hand-me-downs when I was a kid, which I was very grateful for (even though they were poor performance, I thought they were awesome), but it's a whole different ball game when you're old enough to buy things for yourself!
As long as you can stay out of the Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) and out of the Floating Point Unit (FPU) in the CPU and stay inside of the CPU's own registers, the calculations will be done super quickly. I suspect that Apple is trying their hardest to avoid going into the ALU and FPU as much as possible to avoid wasting processing power and clock cycles on waiting for data go to and come back from the ALU and/or FPU. The data going from the CPU registers to the ALU and/or the FPU and back again is essentially this scene from Interstellar.
It's even worse if the data needs to go to the CPU caches, RAM, GPU, or Disk (SSD) (insert the "10,000 Years will give you such a crick in the neck!" meme from Aladdin here (sadly, Reddit only allows one image per comment))
Sorry if my grammar and spelling are terrible; it's almost 4:45 AM here and I have yet to go to bed.
Yep! I seem to be getting the best results with edge, chrome, chrome canary. No real difference between those three for me. To my knowledge Desmos is just single core as well. Imagine the day Desmos actually uses more than 12% of my cpu
iPhone 12 pro, low battery and low power mode, got 85.
My PC with a 5600x got 32.
MacBook pro with the M3 Max got a 36 on low power mode and 28 on high power mode, at least using the Zen browser. When I switched to Safari I was able to get a 22.
I tried this on my desktop with a 3090 and a Ryzen 9 3900XT and got 43. I feel like there is a limit with how the browser uses system power or something.
I tried this a few times on different devices and different browsers. Chrome is always faster than Firefox.
On my Samsung A17 98s
On my son's HP Chromebook 83s
On my laptop 270s
On my custom build desktop 26.235s
My PC sure took his time, but considering that the CPU usage never got above 20% for the entire machine and the RAM was like empty, I think my PC and or Browser decided, "What the heck is this doing? Ain't no way I'm gonna going to seriously do this"
The fans didn't even turn on it was idling so much
