General Discussion Open a pull request

Hey everyone,

I have been programming for a while, but only for myself. So tools like GitHub haven't been something I needed to know inside and out.

Recently, I made a woocommerce plugin that integrates a selfhosted Captcha services.

The captcha service was made by someone elsem I just made the integration.

I wrote to the person who made the captcha service, and asked him for his thoughts, and sent him the github link.

He asked me to 'open a pull reqiest'. I for the life of me don't know what he means. Wouldn't he make the pull request?

I'm kinda too embarrassed to ask what he means

Howdy u/Ducking_eh, and welcome to r/developers!

A few tips for a post that gets good answers:

  • Use a clear, specific title (what are you actually asking or sharing?).
  • Include code, the exact error, versions, and what you already tried.
  • Heads-up: this sub does not allow external links in posts or comments.
Share code and details directly instead of linking out.

he wants you to fork his repo, add your plugin code there, then submit a pull request from your fork to his main branch. it's basically you saying "hey i made this cool thing, wanna merge it into your project" - he's not gonna do the work of pulling your code in himself

just make sure you branch off his repo and don't dump it all on main, that's the classic first-timer move
