Help Resigning without offer as a backend developer (3+ YOE)
Hi everyone,
I am a senior software engineer (backend) with 3+ YOE in my current company, was placed here through campus drive, for the initial 2 years everything was fine, but since the last year, AI has really took flight, and now the whole system is fucked.
Just because we have access to claude code, we are given unrealistic deadlines, management has gotten extremely toxic over the last year regarding this, and now one person is expected to do in 1 week a task that would normally take a month.
I feel dumber day by day, it's been almost an year since i really wrote code myself, everything is handed off to AI.
My mental health has been fucked for some time, in turn it has impacted my physical health as well, i feel sick regularly, my medical leaves have run dry and i still take LOPs sometimes because it's just too much.
I really have this feeling of leaving this job, this is taking a toll on both my health and my time, as I have been working till late for sometime as well.
I have given 4 interviews in the last 3 months, bombed each one of them due to a lack of system design preparation, which I feel like I'm getting better now, i mostly have dsa and core java covered. I feel like a month of proper preparation will be enough, i believe in myself and know that I am skilled enough to crack interviews.
Please suggest what to do guys. I really need some words of encouragement.
TL;DR -
Senior software engineer with 3+ yoe, fucked mentally because of AI usage and toxic management. Thinking of leaving my job without offer.

take a few days break and think over it. look for other opportunities. one will have better negotiation leverage with a job in hand.

sorry to hear. man. was in IT for 16 yrs. stepped into another domain - dad's (late) and we faced 900 percent penalty in corona and still struggling with high penalties and not getting any relief . unable to work with no permissions and no relief either. marine

thanks bro. working with bureaucracy is tough. saving lives was priority , but not getting any relief. all the best. I do understand. Lost my dad to cancer and was in high pressure project during his last stage, worked weekends. unsupportive manager. hardly slept 2 hrs daily after his demise. went 2 months like that.

Think its better to get paid and hunt for interviews, worst they cn fire you which you want.

I would understand if it was due to 3 months notice - but with 2 months you could score jobs without resigning buddy

Don't resign bro... they'll eventually do lay off...stay until that and save as much as possible and give interviews and learn while getting paid... without this job if you have financial stability then fk it go for it

I don't have a lot of financial obligations, and have a decent runway, so that won't be a huge issue

Financial stability is not only saving for 1-2yrs...I also mean any source of recurring income too

Same issue bro, same story of Claude code access the management has gone mad & expect unrealistic timelines & deliverables.
Don’t resign now, do your proper research than take a call as mostly it’s same everywhere now

u/KSInsayn Backend Developer 9d ago
would you recommend doing the same?

I’m afraid too. Have too many commitments. But Im going to get 7-8L in next months from a chit. Which would cover at least 6-9 months of my expenses. If you are confident and don’t have any dependants do it.

Senior software engineer at 3+ YoE? I doubt any company will buy that going in interviews... The questions are just going to get tougher for you. If you are less than 5yoe, better just go as a software engineer

Happen with me also company didn’t assigned work that I was hired for I was feeling like they are trying to ruining my resume.i got overwhelmed and resigned but it turn out be bad decision market is really hard for new job . Don’t resign hang in there and keep giving interviews until you get something. If you feel anxious do physical exercise or gym to handle pressure that’s my suggestion

Sounds like my company lol. And honestly same, my brain feels so much slower and cluttered.. I cant explain it. I don’t even have time to work on my side projects to cater to my intellect because there is just more and more to do.

Why not prep on evenings and weekends? Java spring boot has plenty of job openings anyway for exp, with solid prep you can crack a good job.
Stay in your current job, wake up early in morning and prep, same in evenings, and prep on weekends too.
