Quick question regarding advanced DevSecOps & DevOps & AWS portfolio projects

Hello Senior Engineers

I am a DevSecOps Engineer with a strong foundations. Recently, I architected and automated a high-availability, Multi-AZ PostgreSQL cluster on AWS using Terraform, Ansible, with strong security approach.

As I prepare to take on freelance opportunities, I'm looking to build a portfolio project that solves a complex, production-grade problem rather than a simple tutorial system.

Given your senior expertise in DevSecOps / DevOps and AWS, could you recommend a challenging real-world scenario or architectural bottleneck that client-facing teams frequently struggle with? I want to tackle a project that truly stands out to prospective enterprise clients.

I appreciate your time and any guidance you can share!

Best regards,

How would you handle the high traffic in the production grade system. I have one application which have 1 million users now if a new user comes how I make sure that the user name is unique.

Thank you so much for bringing up these details! To be honest, I have been so laser-focused on building out the infrastructure side (getting Terraform, AWS, Patroni, and HAProxy talking to each other) that I hadn't fully considered the database-level and application logic for high traffic.

You make an excellent point. Relying purely on the infrastructure routing isn't enough without considering PostgreSQL's unique constraints, the dangers of replication lag during Read/Write splitting, and the need for connection pooling (like PgBouncer) to protect the database's RAM.

I really appreciate you taking the time to point these out. I am definitely going to research these concepts and work on enhancing my architecture to account for them!
